We absolutely LOVE the Handlery! The two biggest reasons are the balcony city view room we stay in. Very rare in SF. And another reason? John Handlery, himself! Oh my goodness, what a friendly and kind man. First time we stayed there he saw me online somewhere and next thing you know, he had champagne for us waiting in our balcony room! Next time, I can’t remember how he knew we were staying again, but as we were checking in, the front desk clerk was explaining how the room assigned room had some plumbing issues, so asked if we’d mind staying directly above it in 566. At the same time I looked over and John Handlery was briskly walking over apologizing. I couldn’t believe it! He knew who we were! Now THAT’s service! Wonderful. I just booked another balcony room for July. I specified we REALLY wanted another city view balcony. 566 was fine! Whichever room is like the last two we stayed in with a view right down the street across from the hotel. Thank you once again! I hope John Handlery sees this and knows how impressed we are with him as a hotel owner. We look forward to our stay in July. Aside from the balcony, the oversized Premier King is a perfect room. P.S. They didn’t have the last date we stayed available, so I clicked on 2023. It was really 2018, though. :)

The hotel was well maintained even though it was built in 1928. The staff were friendly at the registration and they had welcome drink served at the lobby. The cable car ride, Union Square, the Powell Station, eatery, and bars were around the corner.

Service is top notch. The whole team, from the front desk to housekeeping and parking were great, accommodating, and would address your concerns with a smile. Huge shout out to Ms. Joyce of the front desk for making sure that I have a great stay here and for going over and beyond my expectations! My bed was so comfortable that I looked forward to sleeping during my stay here. The hotel is also centrally located in downtown SF.

Good central, safe location. Traditional hotel. A good base for our first three nights in US. No restaurant in the hotel but plenty nearby. Would recemmend Cafe Mason diner on Mason Street around the corner (can get a hotel discount!), or The Bartlett Hall restaurant/bar directly behind the hotel garage. Noisy pipes in the hotel and small en-suite (it is an old hotel). Has a courtyard pool (didn't try it). Has baggage storage.

This hotel is well located and the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were nice but a bit tired and getting to the rooms from reception was a bit of a mission with luggage, be prepared to carry your bags up stairs. We enjoyed our stay and would most likely stay there again
