San Fran Experience

markmatth1 on Sep 30, 2023

Great location on Union Square. Trams at Union Square and metro and buses within 2 blocks depending on where you want to go. It is easy for taxi pick up at front door. The facilities were clean and tidy. There are plenty of local restaurants to choose from. Our favorites were The Old Siam and Sears Fine Foods. Both good prices and good food. Overall an enjoyable stay.

Handlery hotel SF rip off!!

1959lesleyw on Sep 28, 2023

$421 a night buys you at Handlery hotel in San Francisco a room with no view, window looks into others rooms and opens 2 inches. Bed had bloody stained sheets, air conditioner didn't work and charged $15 for snack pack which contains $3 worth of water and candy. Disappointed with family run hotel, Handlery hotel is a terrible stay in San Francisco! And, they don't care.

Lovely stay at the Handlery!

Thank you to the staff at the Handlery Hotel for making our stay extra special by upgrading our room and providing bubbly and treats for my husband's 50th birthday! The Handlery is a lovely place to stay in San Francisco! The tram stops just outside to take you down the hill to Fisherman's Wharf and the pool was a lovely treat after a long day sightseeing!

Central location but tired and cramped

adrianl736 (London, United Kingdom) on Aug 23, 2023

The location is central for this hotel, although sadly many people in the area on the streets and struggling, which made it feel unsafe at times, especially with a family in tow. I think the hotel could be lovely but it needs investment in the part we were staying in. Our room just about got 2 beds in there for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. It was unclean when we got there - hair on the bathroom floor, somebody’s false nail on the carpet and other stuff you’d expect housekeeping to have sorted. Took 2 phone calls over the course of 12 hours to get that sorted. They did send up a bottle of wine as an apology. The only window had the curtains closed whilst we were there because other windows were too close and it blocked out the view of what reminded me of a prison yard. Staff are undoubtedly doing their best, but the hotel is relying on its location and reputation to bring in the guests, rather than the experience you’d expect in 2023.

Good choice

mezo2016 (Teignmouth, United Kingdom) on Aug 16, 2023

Spent 3 nights here and agree with other reviews. Our room was ok but you can tell this is an old style hotel and no facility to eat as the grill seemed to be closed while we stayed there. Safe didn’t work either but that said it’s very conveniently located and being close to Powell street gave you access to everywhere you wanted to go via any form of transport which was exactly what we needed. Didn’t have time to use the pool unfortunately which was another reason I booked here, too busy sightseeing!
