Hotel Villa Cuba since May 1st 2023.

sylvia19722014 (Toronto, Canada) on May 09, 2024

Since May 1st 2023 the hotel chain of Be Live Experience have left Cuba. This hotel is now known by its original name of Villa Cuba Hotel or Hotel Villa Cuba. This is a hotel through all of the trials and tribulations of the past year which has plagued Cuba is still an outstanding hotel run by the best and most caring staff. There are difficulties and the biggest one is the elevators that have a mind of their own as to whether they will work or not. A word to anyone mobility challenged this may not be a perfect match. Saying that while we were there in April we saw 2 families who had family members in wheel chairs and some how they managed to get up and down. Once again the beach is spotless and tourists are helping by picking up after themselves. The gardens have never looked lovelier with flowers in bloom all over the gardens and the scents of them wonderful. The rum and beer was flowing and no shortages here. Eggs served every which way possible available at breakfast even crepes if one wanted to line up. Flour is in shortage but fresh breads and buns served at breakfast and lunch. No french fries, hot dogs and hamburgers but restaurant on the beach El Sitio ( maitre Ramon ) had a nice buffet and al la carte, pool bar Yoskiel and Taimey ) had sandwiches and omelet's to tempt everyone. Buffet at lunch had pasta's with all sorts of tempting sauces. The new director of the hotel is trying hard to make this hotel home to everyone encouraging repeaters to come out and enjoy events. A wonderful meet and greet at the pool bar with great music and dancing and cocktails to whet everyone pallet. ( thank you Dania and Madelyn for arranging that event ) It was wonderful to talk to friends we have met over the years and listen to great Cuban music. The Canadian dinner was delicious and served perfectly. New entertainer sang beautifully. The lobby coffee bar is a great place to meet and plan the day. And the lobby bar a great place to just relax before or after dinner having a wonderfully prepared cocktail. Thank you Corso, Evidio and Gordeio. Yes, its an old hotel 1997 and it has some issue's but the people of Cuba, the beach, the gardens we 4 are already planning 2025. Thank you one and all for a wonderful 2 weeks. Even the weather was perfect. gracias.

A lovely resort, a tad showing its age and maintenance issues but I wasn't expecting anything grand to begin with.

We had a lovely time and the people of the resort are wonderful. However, sleeping is an issue; noise is one with people partying until 3 in the morning and nothing was done until the 6th night when I said I would call the police myself next time. If it wasn't for the noise, the bedbugs would make sleeping a chore. Talking with other tourists I found five other rooms/ villas had them, it was easy to see all the people with bites on their legs and arms. I first thought it was ants as they were crawling on the bed and in the bathroom but the spray I had stopped them and mosquitoes unfortunately not the bedbugs. The food isn't the greatest but Cuba is in financial trouble and importing food and other items is slow. The chefs try their best some are heavyhanded with the salt. This resort isn't very handicap accessible with multi-level floors some only reachable with stairs and some ramps blocked with overflow furniture. Elevators were an issue of the two banks of elevators only one worked most of the time. The beach and pool are nice with lots of lounge chairs and sling-back chairs, but the umbrellas are limited. Drinks are either beer or rum and the pop varies depending on where you go and what day it is. Bring lots of money! The ATMs- (7 in all Varadero) and the 4 we visited were out of money and we left our passports in the safe so couldn't withdraw any directly from a bank. If you wish to bring gifts the basic medications for pain and allergies were most appreciated along with cleaning wipes and hand sanitizer.

Never Again

Ernestothesecond (Atlantic Canada) on Apr 23, 2024

7th time there and requested room 3 months in advance, got a garbage room. Sorry, we have no more rooms. We don't care if you were here 7 times, here's your key. Elevator not working so we drag our suitcases up to 5th floor. ( elevators not working for 7 days) Food was typical for the shortages in Cuba , no eggs, potatoes, burgers, fries, hot dogs, bread.

Sunny two weeks at Villa Cuba.

kellyhM5460GL on Apr 21, 2024

My two week stay at Villa Cuba was ok. The beach is really beautiful. Hotel is run down. Rooms are moldy paint peeling off the ceilings. Changed rooms twice not much better than the first one. The employees and the maids are very kind and helpful. A lot of stairs involved in this resort. Elevators are scetchy or not working. The alcohol is minamul If you like rum and Crystal beer then you'll be fine. Don't expect vodka drinks or baileys for your coffee nothing like that here. The food again is well Cuba. No bacon at breakfast. Mystery meat was alway on the buffet. No hamburgers no hotdogs no french fries. Alot of misitoes after dark..being bug repelant. Bring American ones for tips. Dont tip with Canadian loonies and twoonies. Cubans can't use them! Enjoy you vacation.

Thanks Hotel Villa Cuba for 7 days of love.

luludogood (Toronto) on Apr 15, 2024

First time at this lovely resort and will definitely return. Hotel is gorgeous but what stood out was the employees. From the front desk to the dudes painting the atrium I found the ENTIRE staff giving it their all in spite of Cuban supply chain nightmares. Got engaged and the manager Adrian had a little champagne celebration for us. The generosity, love and kindness left us speechless. Tourism is Cuba's lifeline and COVID kicked the industry in the teeth. The citizens don't have a penny but will give you one anyhow. Please bring american $1 bills for tips and no loonies as they can't exchange them.
