Here is my overall review of the DIVI GOLF, as well as ARUBA in general and some basic "DOs" and "DON'Ts" if you go to either! I hope they are useful for some of you because I will say I should have planned better :) Divi Golf: *I would never classify this place as a 4-star hotel. Main lobby when we checked in was very nice and gave that impression, but our room was not nice at all. I stayed at the Hyatt and Occidental (now Barcelo) and both were so much nicer. Occidental was even an all-inclusive/high rise and rooms were nicer. In fact, this place was even dirty when we checked into our room. Luckily our travel agent called the supplier who got in touch with them, and they deep cleaned the room. *Infinity pool was fun but lots of missing tiles from the pool, which again does not ring out "4-star hotel" *Staff at the front desk was nice and helpful. Same with Bellmen. They were very knowledgeable about getting around the island and different transportation methods. *Bartenders were not very good. Most were rude to be honest. Would be sitting there for 25 minutes and they would just walk right past and wait on other people (and we tipped very well!) Not caring who came first, second, ect. Not observant at all. At the infinity pool there were at least 6 different bartenders over our stay and every single one made each drink differently. One bartender only made what looked like a rum punch and served it to you regardless of what you ordered. *DO NOT get frozen drinks if you are not on the "all-inclusive" plan. They look good when making them. The bartenders use a decent amount of alcohol but then they fill up your little 12 oz cup and dump the rest down the sink (plus the remaining alcohol with it!). By the time you get it there really isn't that serving of alcohol you just paid for. When I brought this up, I was told I would have to pay for a "floater" if I wanted it stronger, which I had to do because there was nothing to it! It was easily a whole drink being wasted, which is probably what dragged up the prices. $10-12 for a drink at the pool was a little ridiculous when it didn't have much alcohol. *Non frozen drinks were filled up so much with ice. My husband and I would each order a drink, get it and by the time we gave our room number and paid the check the drink was gone. One bartender made it without the ice first and we could see how little alcohol and mixers were really in there. We started limiting our drinking after this because as fun as it is to drink on vacation it’s not worth it for the money they charged. We went to a grocery store and got our own for the room (and occasionally took some to the pool)- more on the grocery store in a bit! *DO look into the all-inclusive plan if you are interested in that. We were not super interested, but it would have been nice to know our options. We did not even know they had all-inclusive at the Golf since it is only offered to select people when booking- we did not get the offer because we had a 2-bedroom suite- usually only offer to families of 4 someone told us and then they "run out." *DO NOT charge to your room. We had a lot of unrecognizable charges and luckily the front desk had the receipts. Someone was charging to our room, and we were able to get them removed. However, I only caught this because I kept a running daily tab, so I knew what we were spending. If you cannot do this then it is not worth the risk of getting ripped off. Other hotels have a wrist band with a bar code they swipe. This one just asks for your room number and has you sign did not even verify with your last name or anything. (such an old school way, but that only worked when the world was honest). *DO NOT tip like crazy. Most places already add a 15% service charge and gratuity. Read receipts carefully. Also, everyone there has a tip jar so at some point you need to limit yourself. We got ice cream for our kids one day, literally like a little ice cream truck stand. girl opened a cooler, took out individually wrapped popsicles and then handed them to us. She had a tip jar and moved it when we paid so we would notice it. I have never once tipped the ice cream truck driver who comes around my neighborhood! We also ordered pizza and got hit with 2 service charges (delivery fee and G2G fee (which was their version of doordash/uber eats). *DO eat at Mulligans. We didn't go here until the last day because it was indoor and just seemed easier to eat at the infinity snack bar or Sea Breeze. However. The food there was bigger, better and cheaper. We even got some of the same things we got at the other two places, and it tasted so much better (burger and margarita pizza specifically) *If you are not on the all-inclusive plan DO go to the grocery store. However, we asked 5 people at the hotel about going to "Ling and Sons." They all gave us great info and directions but not one of them told us to bring our own bags, which was annoying because if you don't you have to pay for your own. *Also, if you are not on the all-inclusive plan DO hit up Duty-Free before you leave the Aruba airport. It is right after baggage claim and each adult can get a bottle of liquor or 3 bottles of wine. However, Ling and Sons had it too, but it was more expensive. Most items there were more expensive than home for us (we live in Pittsburgh) I would suggest packing some things if you can. I took down almonds and trail mix. protein bars, potato chip single serve bags and things like that. *DO NOT go to the Divi gift shop for any grocery items! It cost us $8 for a 2L of coke to mix the first day. Ling's sold it for $4. I needed butter and the front desk told me to go to the gift shop, which I refused so I asked Sea Breeze and they gave me a few restaurant pads/ single servings, which was nice of them. *DO NOT use the hotel phone to make local calls. I called a pizza place and literally had the conversation of "Do you deliver? Oh, no your don’t? Well thanks anyways" and they charged me $4 plus tax. It is a shame because it is a local call and I am sure they are taking advantage because they know people do not have international phone plans. I could have called for 25 cents a minute from my cell but used their phone and they totally took advantage! If you do not have all-inclusive consider these places for dinner! *Gianni's- food was great but do not sit outside. The patio is so big and covered so it does not get a good air flow. Went inside to use the restrooms and the AC felt amazing! The pasta "wheel" they make right at your table was so cool. However, do not add chicken. It had a weird texture and was not worth the upcharge. All "add-ons" were served on the side which also made it weird to me. Go to the Gelato bus right outside for dessert! Nice shopping area too *Azar- this was recommended to us from Tim, crew member of "Sailaway Snorkeling Tour." We also ate inside here. Open Grill restaurant and was very good as well. *Hostaria Da Vittorio- this was recommended to us by a bartender at infinity named Enrique (who was the only decent bartender there!!) Food was great but do not get the veal ossobuco. It was prepared very differently, I am not going to say I hated it but I would have liked something better! Very good looking menu overall. *Papiamento - we did sit outside here because it was so pretty in the garden. Very open and good air flow. Food was good and same with desserts! We also did the Sailaway Snorkel tour. The concierge recommended it. They come and pick you up, which they were an hour and 15 mins late getting us and I was so annoyed but once we got to the ship we had so much fun with the crew! It was also an open bar so it was a great time. Crew was amazing and I enjoyed getting to know them as well. We did the semi-sub tour and went at 1:00 on a Monday. We were there with one other family. It can hold 44 people I think and only 9 of us were on there which was awesome! We got to see so much. However, if we ever went back I would do the full sub next time! Finally, we got professional pictures with Dwight Jimenez. I booked with him in March or April for our July trip and he told me to do 8:00 AM for a "sunrise" shoot. Never again would I do it early, it was so bright and we had such a hard time keeping our eyes open on the beach. We had to move to the shade to get some good ones. He also took us around the island and we got some at the light house and another spot with a very rocky beach with a lot of trees. It was a very cool concept but we were not dressed appropriately. If I would have known we would be climbing trees and sitting in them I would not have put myself and daughters in dresses. I did not get pics back yet, but I am very hopeful we got some good ones. In the future I would only do sunset and if you are going to leave the beach check what terrain you will be on and make sure you have appropriate clothes/shoes. I could have matched us with jean shorts and same color shirts or something too.

Divi Village- We will be back!!

Upon arrival my husband and I were disappointed in learning that the "All Inclusive" did not include bottles in the room and there was no room service. When the trip was purchased from Vacation Express I specifically asked these questions on (2) separate occasions and was told yes both times. The place was very spacious and clean. The lady at the front desk explained everything to us and told us to not worry we would be pleased. Typically when someone tells me that I get nervous but to my surprise she was absolutely correct! My husband and I enjoyed the entire trip and the accommodations were great! Full apartment, balcony overlooking the pool the shuttles to get us from place to place was perfect. Mulligans restaurant was one of our favorites the food and service was great! Seabreeze was excellent and the service was also. We were right across the street from the beach and it was AMAZING! Red Parrot was very nice and we loved he whole vibe. Paparazzi Italian restaurant was wonderful also food and service. We could not get into Ginger because this Asian restaurant was always booked. Question: Would we stay her again? Absolutely Oh! I cannot leave out the week 28 owners...They put the cherry on top! Fun group of families that have been going to this resort for years. They are now like one big family and when I return I will be going week 28 to hang out with these fun folks.
