It's like most of the employees just hate their life...

We were there for a week in the beginning of March. The front desk staff, particularly DENORA, were rude and really seemed a little bothered that they had to wait on us. We asked questions that they didn't have particular answers. And the bad thing is they didn't really care. Went to our room in Tower 2, and the AC wasn't working properly. We tried to call down to front desk, but couldn't get the phone to work. My husband had to walk back down and spoke to Denora again. She told him she would send someone up, but no one ever showed up. We were on the side by Mambo and there was loud music playing till very late. Hard to sleep. So, next morning we decided to ask for a room change. They hemmed and hawed and couldn't really tell us for sure. Why? Can't they see what's going on in the rooms there? Like who's checking in, checking out, etc? We were trying to make a decision to just try to find a new hotel and leave , if in fact they couldn't switch. They just led us on. I finally went down later that day, and explained to Denora, that we really needed to know, she went to her "supervisor", somebody I guess behind the back door, who never showed his/her face to us, and came back and said tomorrow they would switch us. She wasn't very convincing and I asked her " So this is for sure?" And mind you I am being very sweet and polite to her, I have always felt it works better than getting all crappy with people. I worked in customer service for years, I know how it should be. And she looked me straight in my face and said "Yes, for sure" no smile ever from her, and definitely no apologies during any of the interactions. I was like, Great! We will stay and stick it out. Well guess what? The next evening, as we were told to wait till 5, we get this tiny note stuck in the door,( don't know how it didn't get lost) that states that we would not be moving until the NEXT night. Are you kidding me? Well, we are already half way through the week, we should have not believed their BS and just left. Why can't you just be honest. And let me tell you, the staff at Front Desk and most of the Bartenders move at a snail's pace. I understand it's the Caribbean, and we have been to many islands, but this was ridiculous. It's like the longer the line, the slower they go. We did get most of the Bartenders to hustle a little by tipping them each and every time we stood in line for a drink. The pool bar was closed, due to construction, of which I only saw workers there about half the time. Working very slowly too. The restaurants were good! And the majority of the restaurant wait staff VERY pleasant and efficient. The hotel is in a great location. Close to Mambo Beach and you can easily get a taxi or bus to town the other way. I liked the entertainment staff in the evening. They had either nice Saxophone, or dance music when we were there. Housekeepers were awesome also, no complaints, they were always there when needed. So back to the room switching, when we were finally offered a room, I was escorted by one of the staffers to view the room, a young man by the name of Imanol. Talk about unprofessional. This guy was walking ahead of me by about a good 15 feet, he seemed to be so bothered that he had to work that day. Got to the room, it was smaller, and hotter than our original. So I passed on it. I was like I Give! And I just told him no thank you. And the dude just acted like he couldn't care less. It was just the oddest thing, The majority of the employees just have no customer service skills at all. But at least he didn't lie to me like Denora did. And I don't know who runs that casino next door, the guard guy at the front justs stares at his phone. I went into to ask for some change, in order to have money for tips to get the bartenders to smile, and the guy behind the glass asks annoyed to have to wait on anybody. IT's like this is your job and nobody's even in here! I'll sit there and do nothing if you pay me, and be gosh darn happy about it! But at least he actually did help me. So I guess I should feel lucky. The beach and pool are very nice also. We enjoyed them, just enough people, not too much, not too few. Oh and one last thing, The final day we were there I rode up in the elevator from breakfast, and I was accompanied by another one of the employees, Young guy with a man bun fro on top, I didn't see his name tag. We were on the 5th floor Tower 2. He had his head down, eyes kinda closed, looked tired. Well he got out of the elevator, and went straight over to the chairs in the seating area of the landing on my floor, Sat down, and started scrolling on his phone. I went to my room, left an hour and a half later and the dude was still sitting there sleeping! I'm thinking man this guy must have the world's longest lunch break or he just doesn't feel like working today. How unusual! LOL. So if the bell staff is missing employees, that top floor in the furthest building seems to be a good place to hide! Safe travels!
Calm place, nice staff and excellent beach

We had a great experience at sunscape for our week long stay, the staff is very adherent to feedback, and walk the extra mile to secure a good vacation. The resort is a bit worn, but the staff makes up for it, and the location! A few minutes walk to Mambo Beach, and bus or taxi to Willemstad is easy to use. Housekeeping by Ingrid is outstanding. Sometimes a bit of line up for the popular restaurants, but nothing to get stressed about.
