Great for travel with kids but not without flaws

First things first: it’s a vacation club property not a resort. So expecting resort treatment is going to let you down. However, the property was awesome for our needs. Negative: the concierge staff were ill informed and incredibly pushy. I got emails, phone calls, and an under the door letter from one person within a 24 hr period. I didn’t appreciate that and being badgered negatively impacted my experience. (Do better, Marriott.) also, the concierge staff struggled to make local recommendations and when I agreed to try a restaurant, all they did was pull up open table, which i could have used myself to learn there weren’t reservations available. However, I did book a canoe tour in advance through a less pushy concierge staff member and that was a positive experience. Room type: 2 bedroom villa, ocean front, corner room. It was great but actually two separate apartments connected, the smaller one didn’t have an oceanfront view, which I guess was supposed to be implied by the “corner room” part of the description. I was annoyed but not a deal breaker. The villas themselves were lovely, some minor upkeep issues, but beds were nice and they had all the functional things you needed. Specific questions I had when searching for Maui lodging with kids: 1) my five year old could snorkel off the beach and easily be over a lively reef. The surf tended to get rougher throughout the day, but he did a great job snorkeling first thing in the morning. The reef had at least fifteen types of fish and definitely met our “off the beach snorkeling on demand” goal. 2) the pools were great for kids. The pirate ship pool was 1.5 feet deep but a ton of fun for the kids. The waterslide pool was more of a swimming pool but also had a 1.5 foot pool attached to it. 3) you can walk on boardwalk to nearby resorts and restaurants. It was fine to navigate with a stroller and wheelchair. 4) the property had a playground my kids also loved
The Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas North

The following is a list of problems we encountered while we were staying at the Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas North. Obviously, they don't check the room before new guests arrive. ROOM 6630 * Broken TV in bedroom upon arrival. * We had no Kleenex or lotions in our room when we arrived. * Some of the dishes and utensils were dirty when we arrived. * Dishwasher would only let us wash dishes with cold water. It seemed like the settings were locked and we could not change them. * The water was shut off for 8 hours one day and we had no hot water the ENTIRE next day. * Maid service did not show up one of the days we were there. * Had to call the front desk for coffee and condiments because the maid did not leave us any on a couple of days. * The timer on the coffee pot did not work. * The phone GFI outlet in the kitchen kept tripping the entire time we were there shutting off the room phone. * The balcony furniture was covered with bird droppings and the windows were dirty and dusty.

My wife and I had purchased an ocean view room with the expectations of getting an ocean view room. What transpired was a room that was given to us overlooking a parking lot at the same price as an ocean view room. I have used Weston throughout my professional career, and this is the first time and hopefully the last time this occurs.
Don't get a timeshare here.

Don't get a timeshare here. They over promise and under deliver. They promise one thing and then when you do what they say they say another thing. Example is check in on Friday to get your choice of room. When you check In on Friday then they say your requested room in unavailable. So bad. Do yourself a favor. Stay clear.
THE (Ultimate) RESORT

Staying here for another great vacation. It’s a complete resort. The villas are fully kitted out…spacious and comfortable. Grounds sport many different pools from the quiet, adult pool, the giant main pool and the kiddies’ adventute pool. There are restaurants and bars and a gym and spa. I mean what else do you want? The place is right on Ka’anapali Beach, voted one of the world’s finest… Yes, it’s a timeshare resort…one of the finest, in my opinion, but you can book a stay on the Marriott website. You’ll not meet a finer, more charming staff and you’re sure to enjoy a great ‘Aloha’ welcome as well as enjoying this beautiful Island of Maui. Rent a car to go see all the sights and enjoy the many restaurants close by. Oh! And the resort boasts a shuttle to visit the many local shops. Come on. Where can you get all this? Only in Paradise and that’s right here…
