While this resort was fine for the purpose of our trip — high school spring break with mothers and daughters — it is not one we would go to again. It is truly remote so doing anything beyond hanging by the pool requires booking an (expensive) excursion. All-inclusive equals just okay food and customer service. It functions much like a cruise. We found many of the workers to be annoyed by our presence. We had no water service for a few hours one day. There were rolling brown outs. The resort is due for a renovation. A couple of the pools are reserved for “preferred club”members. On our last day, they were checking to be sure only they were seated in those pool chairs. Pool seating was scarce as more guests checked-in. The beach is pretty with amazing sunsets. The vendors can be a bit much but we learned to give a polite nod and they moved along (we did buy bracelets on the last night to support their efforts). The monkeys and raccoons are fun but watch your food around the iguanas. There were some funny moments thanks to us not speaking Spanish and most employees not speaking English. Overall, this was good for a bunch of teenagers to have some freedom while their moms were elsewhere on property. We were thankful to not get hit with a big food/drink bill at checkout. It was an affordable, unique location for our spring break trip to celebrate Senior year.

We are here currently and looking for other accommodations to go to in the morning. We are accustomed to staying at nice resorts. This is at most a 3 star hotel. We haven’t had an edible meal since the breakfast the morning after our arrival two days ago. The sunscreen is 60 dollars. A bottle of Moët and Chandon is 350 dollars. The food is so bad, we are not eating it. I hate to leave this review because I really love supporting remote hotels but this place has a lot of improvement needed. At portofino, the supposed best restaurant here, the salmon raviolis were great. However, everything else was so soupy and salty we couldn’t eat it (and we are super hungry after not being able to find decent food since the arrival). We asked for more wine and the waitress said “give me a sec”. This was after we waited over 40 minutes at Portofino. We are very forgiving but we couldn’t even drink the margaritas at The Patio. I used to bartend and never send drinks back but …. So confusing how the margaritas tasted like vinegar. The room has a chlorine chemical smell. We are in building 1c on the main floor with a swim out pool. the vendors are great. We had an amazing evening doing a snorkel and fishing sunset boat tour….but our hunger is forcing us to leave in the morning. So hungry!!
