Fun, but scored 3 out of 5

The Directors Suite was really spacious from the closet space to the open bathroom/bedroom space. I liked that it had 2 full baths as well. The staff and service was wonderful! The pool activities were fun too. The food on the resort wasn't that great unless you went to the star class restaurants or pay for the "special" meals. The fries were always cold. The pool closes early every night at 7 pm. I think the resort was lacking in a variety of activities. If you want a covered cabana, it costs from like $170 -$350 USD. We negotiated a cheaper price. Just remember to negotiate everything. The resort charges $200+ for massages but there are locals on the beach charging $40 USD. Also, if you're there long enough (we stayed 6/7 days) you'll notice on slow days they discount many of the fee based amenities. It is a very hilly property. It's hard to walk the property so they have drivers coming around often in go carts to transport you anywhere on the property. The beach is not the best either. My group had a really great time but if I were to return to Costa Rica, Planet Hollywood wouldn't be my first choice.

PH is a positive experience for the time and $

Darren B on Jan 10, 2026

Overall I’d recommend PH for a 1st trip to Costa Rica for its overall accommodations. Service: Overall the service was good. The staff is always there to support a question or request. Our butler was helpful at making dinner reservations and spa and cabana reservations. This was a star class inclusion. Golf Carts: You can walk up and down. But carts are constantly running taking guests up and down from the lobby to suites and poolside. Pools: The 2 pools are good. We had Star Class which made a difference as the smaller pool was less crowded and the music was not blaring. However the main pool had a good vibe and lots of activity. Foam party, yoga in the water. Many other games were offered. The Beach It is black sand and in January the tide was out most of the day. So swimming is not a real option. But finding shells is fun. Though you can’t take them. The only con was that the solicitor’s for a massage or excursions were always right there the moment you stepped on the sand. Pro and Con: the monkeys were entertaining but also really curious and not shy when they were around. The Food: If you are a “foodie” or want best in class food. This is not the place for you. It was hit and miss. One day we had a fantastic wood fired pizza at Gusto. Crust was amazing. We went again and ordered the same thing and it was different and not great. While at the Steakhouse I had two consistent medium rare flank steaks that were seasoned well. But I also had a not so great strip loin at the Tex Mex place. The Buffet is ok. The chicken on any dish was the best. Pork/Beef was just average. My opinion is desserts are not this resorts thing compared to other all inclusive resorts in Mexico. Just average and most seem to sit making them dry. Food is about expectations and it’s different for everyone. I’m a food person, but I went into it knowing this wasn’t a place with rave reviews on food. So it was 3 out of 5 on food. Coffee and simple sandwiches at Fuel were great. But for people who think it’s Starbucks and their menu. It’s not. My opinion is the coffee was great. 4.5 of 5 Alcohol or non alcohol: drinks were on par. Up charges on Tequila like Don Julio or Patron. Cabana - nice option for an extra charge for a family or group of 6. Would do it again. Small jetted pool, beverage and food service. TV and outdoor sofa. Excursions: 4.5 of 5 Zip lining tour via Nexus tours was a lot of fun. Not crazy for an adrenaline junky. Perfect for families with kids older than 10. Rio Celeste and chocolate and coffee tour with sloths was amazing. It’s got quite a steep hike. About 1.8km. So if you are not an active person you might wanna pass or plan to take it very slow. The coffee and chocolate tour is very informative and you can buy coffee there or at the souvenir store going both directions from PH via the nexus tours. Our only real miss was our transfer out via nexus tours never showed. However the nexus tour desk at PH found an option. And we made it to the airport in plenty of time.
