Great family resort!

We really loved our time at the Jewel! We stayed for a week and spent half our time in the 3 bedroom oceanfront suite in building C and half the time in the 3 bedroom penthouse suite in building B. Both locations were super nice, but I’d say building C is better because it’s the building with the most updated decor. Our butlers were excellent and provided very fast room service, trip recommendations, and dining arrangements. The staff overall were SO friendly and helpful. They are also very kid friendly. The only negative was that we arrived at the resort around 5pm, 2 hours after expected arrival, and our room still wasn’t ready. The room floors were very dirty and our kids legs were black after crawling around for 10 min. We asked them to mop and they fixed it. The beach had a lot of seaweed, but they rake it away every morning. We have small kids so renting a cabana ($169/day) on the beach was a must. There aren’t any umbrellas or shade otherwise. If you have the cabana then the staff will bring you food and drinks all day. There’s a guy on the beach who makes super tasty jerk chicken around lunchtime. There’s no snorkeling available and the closest place is a 20 min taxi ride. The food was good for an all-inclusive. The drinks were ok- the free wine wasn’t very good and the cocktails seemed watered down. If you like good liquor then buying duty free at the airport would be worthwhile. They also have a free shuttle to a shopping area where you can buy wine, liquor, souvenirs, but it’s very overpriced. Bouchon was our favorite restaurant- awesome steak and salmon! We didn’t spend much time at the pool because we liked the beach, but it was warm and there’s a shallow area for the kids.

Far more than we expected.

The first resort-type experience we've had so nothing identical to compare it to. However, this is a wonderful place. The thousands of reviews say everything there is to say. There are glitches here and there, but nothing to knock down a five-star rating. (For instance, not all the electric wall plugs actually work. Be sure the ones you use are charging. There are power interruptions and hot-water outages, but in our experience, they don't last very long and/or are remedied quickly once reported.) This is a small, poor country. Even accounting for that, the resort is super nice. The food is so good, the choices so varied, and so very accessible, even a glowing review can't do it justice. Ice cream cones by the poolside, sit-in-pool bar, a breakfast center more spectacular than you can imagine, fresh grilled meats and hot vegetables available to eat directly on the beach, nicely appointed restaurants with delicious menus, quick-stop luncheon counters with choices of wraps and sandwiches. And more. The staff is excellent. They are incredibly well trained always with a smile for you. They don't idle about. They are constantly at work doing whatever the job is they have. And more than willing to help out no matter what. The clientele frequenting here is respectful of others, including those guests with children who were well-behaved. Don't expect to have all this at a discount price! If you want "great," then go for an oceanfront (not just ocean view) suite; our one bedroom had two bathrooms and a great soaking tub (see the photo)! The two-bedroom suite we got a glimpse intowas humongous. You do get what you pay for.
