Pretty resort grounds but long overdue for a face-lift

Pamela P (New York City, New York) on Mar 22, 2025

I always like to a positive person. So I will start out positive. The only two positives are the beautiful grounds at the resort and the food was above average. Now let the truth be told. The rooms are dated, dull and dreary if you can even find your room. There is no staff available to escort you to room. The map they give you is worthless and the signage around the hotel is useless. Once you eventually find your room - it will be disappointing. You probably can get a more updated room at the Palm Desert holiday inn. Other issues - The air conditioner in the room cannot go below 68 degrees Fahrenheit. We called the front desk to see if it can be lowered and was told “ No Can Do”. They said will can deliver a fan but There was no suitable outlet to plug it into. It’s the desert and it’s hot. ?? there should be a way to control the AC. Let’s move on to the outside pool areas. Each section has its own pool. And it’s nothing special - more like a municipal town pool which in my town the pool is nicer. Even the main pool at the resort is outdated. This hotel hasn’t been updated in like 30 years. I am not 100% sure how this place received a 4.2 rating - but I suggest reading others reviews and come to your own determination before booking.

Tennis "Paradise!"

Barbara S on Mar 22, 2025

We've been visiting the resort for 25+ years. The setting, of course, is fabulous. And, as always, the tennis experience was exceptional, with tennis director extraordinaire, Kevin Connolly, setting up matches for our family and making us feel welcome!

Hotel charges you twice for all your expenses signed to your room

AdamG126 (Guildford, United Kingdom) on Mar 21, 2025

Be careful. The hotel debits your credit card directly after you have signed an restaurant invoice to your room. Then , when you checkout they charge you again for all your charges signed to your room - as if you had not already been charged. When I queried this half way through my stay - as unusual to be charged directly to my credit card when signing each invoice every day to my room - I was told that this would not happen! I have now been charged to my credit card twice for each invoice which i signed to my room! Totally unacceptable. I will now have to chase repayment - not a good outcome after a good hol, iday! Also don't believe anything said by the receptionist called Hugh - except of you like blatant lies delivered to you in a condescending and rude manner.

Ughh! Never again.

Venture05865697734 (Greenwich, Connecticut) on Mar 15, 2025

I read another review that someone was given the wrong room which leads me to write a review as well. I had paid for the Hacienda Zia room at a rate of over 1K a night, instead I was given a much, much, much smaller room and they couldn't rectify the issue. What bothers me most is that I believe the check-in attendant knew that she was giving me the wrong room instead of telling me that my original booking was not available. They put us in a tiny room where my kids then said it smelled like someone was still staying there. The attendant that was suppose to help us with our luggage was hesitant to show us the proper route to our room and insisted that we should just use a map or get someone else to help us. He argued with my husband in front of my children and that made for an awkward moment. This room was rated at over $800 a night and it felt more like a motel than a 5 star hotel. The tennis courts are beautiful but when I asked if my kids could play in a clinic, there was a coach slouched over a chari and said my kids wouldn't have fun because the clinics are geared towards beginners. That was a let-down for my kids that they turned us off of it even before we started. It's unfortunate because the overall exterior grounds of the hotel are charming and the mountain setting is beautiful. It's too bad the rooms and service can't live up to the beautiful desert surroundings. The overall vibe of the staff was grumpy and confused without any proper training. We also stayed at the Indian Wells Grand Hyatt Indian Wells in one of their villas and it was beautiful, clean and the service was top-notch. Now I know where to go on our trip back to Indian Wells next year and hopefully the Hilton La Quinta can take some notes on how to treat their guests. Photos attached of our room and you can judge for yourself if it is a 5 star property.

Kevin and the tennis staff are exceptional!

Scott B on Mar 09, 2025

The only thing more wonderful than this beautiful resort is Tennis Director Kevin and his staff. We’ve been coming to the desert every March for nearly a decade, and the level of service Kevin and his team consistently provide is extraordinary. Having played tennis and stayed at resorts all over the world, we have never felt more welcomed or accommodated than we do at La Quinta. Thank you, Kevin and team!
