Active Advisories
Renovations and upgrades will be taking place at Bahia Principe Grand Punta Cana starting from April 21, 2025 with an expected completion date of November 30, 2025. Work hours will be from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily.
The areas of improvement include:
- Renovation of 288 rooms adding to the 532 recently remodeled in 2024
- 1 swimming pool
- 1 buffet restaurant
- 1 specialty Japanese restaurant
- 1 specialty Grill restaurant
- Lobby
- Lobby Bar
- Theater
The entire construction area will be properly marked and fenced to minimize visual impact.
Additionally, during this period, the affected services will be relocated within the hotel as follows:
.Swimming Pool: Four pools will remain available within the hotel.
.Orquidea Lobby/Reception: Guests will be attended to at the Bouganville lobby/reception.
.Daiquiri Lobby Bar: Bar service will be offered at Mai Tai, located in the Bouganville lobby.
.Mikado Restaurant: Japanese specialty cuisine will continue to be available at Maiko Restaurant.
.Garden Grill Restaurant: The Rodizio Restaurant will be available, specializing in premium cuts of meat.
.Buffet Restaurant Orquidia: the other Buffet Restaurant Bouganville remains open
.Theater: The theater will be relocated to Bahia Principe Village.
.Gym: A new gym location will be set up within one of the existing miniclubs
Although some noise may be heard, all efforts will be made to minimize impact to guest during this time.

Beautiful Setting Marred by Timeshare Scams and Other Issues

Our stay at the resort was a mix of beautiful moments and significant disappointments. The most distressing issue was the aggressive timeshare scam. We were approached by what we believed were hotel employees selling a "Privilege Club membership." Naively, we agreed to a one-hour presentation, which was a blatant timesale pitch. The next morning, when I refused to speak with them again, they resorted to bullying. Thankfully, I kept my composure. This practice is a major stain on the reputation of the resort. We traveled during the low season (late September) and paid CAD $7,500 for a week, expecting a luxury, 5-star experience with fewer guests. However, the resort was still very crowded. We also noticed a cultural shift, as the clientele seemed to be predominantly local families, which altered the expected ambiance. The constant expectation for tips was exhausting. While I am a generous tipper, it began to feel like tourists were perceived merely as cash cows, with staff expecting $10-20 at every turn. The resort's large size requires the use of buggies. While they run frequently, we often had to wait in line and then scramble for a seat, which was an unpleasant daily hassle. My family preferred not to walk, so this became a necessary but frustrating routine. The food was initially great, but after four days, I fell severely ill with stomach issues. For the remainder of the trip, I was confined to my room, unable to eat or relying on medication that provided little relief. We avoided tap water, but I suspect the water used for cooking or washing dishes was the culprit. On a positive note, the beach is perfect and the ocean is magnificent. However, the water is incredibly salty, causing a burning sensation in the eyes and on the lips, which made swimming and diving uncomfortable. A final note: The on-site Air Canada representative was unfriendly. Once he realized we weren't interested in purchasing extra tours, his demeanor turned cold and disinterested. Our flight was fine, but one of our bags was delayed for two days (an Air Canada issue, not the resort's). The airport transfer, however, was quick and efficient. Summary: While the natural setting is stunning, the combination of high-pressure sales tactics, illness, and other inconveniences made this a poor value for the high price we paid.

We stayed as a group of couples overall had a good experience. We upgraded our room to a renovated one and had no issues, one other couple had mold in their room and you could smell it however they were able to switch to a different one right away. Housekeeping came everyday, there’s tons of food options, the food was good however the buffets can get very busy and warm. There’s different things to do at night and the beach is beautiful. We found the staff were nice, some couldn’t understand a lot of English. In conclusion our group enjoyed their time here.
