Overall had a great time

EloiseS92 (North Wales, United Kingdom) on Jul 18, 2024

Me and my partner stayed at the Punta Cana resort for 2 weeks and had a really good time. When we arrived we were told we'd had an upgrade to one of the new renovated rooms which we were not expecting, and we had access to all of the different resorts on the complex (I'm not sure if this was just the case for those who had booked a TUI holiday though). Our room was right next to the main pool and the beach, which is about a 15 minute walk from the lobby/buffet area at the Punta Cana resort, but there are regular buggies to take you around the resort (we just walked most of the time). The pool at the Punta Cana is huge, staff were good at the pool bar and the snack bar was nice. No issues getting sun loungers. The only slight downside was that the pool wasn't that cold so you didn't quite cool off when you got in it! When we realised we had access to the adults only Ambar resort, this is where we spent most of our time as the lobby and buffet area were a lot closer for us (and there were no kids, which I'm not usually bothered about but in all honestly it was nice not having kids running around the buffet). We were really impressed with the Ambar resort - always something going on at the pool, the entertainment team were fabulous and BIANCA is the best waitress ever! BIG shoutout to BIANCA - she could not do enough for us and was always bringing us drinks (please tip the staff - they do a great job!). Can't fault the food at all - there was always a large variety with lots of food cooked fresh and at your request too (I would say the Ambar buffet was slightly better than the Punta Cana but I have no complaints about the Punta Cana one at all). The sports bar located in between the Bavaro/Punta Cana/Ambar resorts was really good - we spent quite a few evenings here playing pool and having drinks. We did the Indian, Garden Grill, Brazilian and the Teppanyaki al a carte restaurants. They were all really nice - our favourite was probably the Indian so definitely try that if you can. We didn't hear good reviews about the Italian restaurants from people we met, so we didn't bother trying there. I downloaded the Bahia Principe App a week or so before the holiday and made most of the al a carte bookings beforehand, however it seemed like there was still some availability when we arrived. We were really impressed by the buffet so were happy to eat there most of the time. The staff across the resorts were always friendly. Yes there is a bit of a language barrier if you don't speak Spanish but we didn't have any issues. Housekeeping were great - we did just notice on the second day that the room hadn't been cleaned but I wasn't sure if you just needed to select on the little screen in the room that you wanted the room cleaning?? Anyway after the first time I did that the room was cleaned everyday. Mini bar was always restocked (again please tip the staff - they deserve it). We did a few excursions - Coco Bongo's, Saona Island, evening buggie tour and the Scape Park. Would recommend them all! The only downside for me was the mosquitos - they were horrendous!!I had read previous reviews where others had mentioned this but oh my god I was not expecting it to be as bad as it was! So if you know you get bitten then make sure you take LOTS of repellent spray (it's pretty expensive to buy on the resort), and anything else that will keep them away or help ease the bites. This really got me down for a couple of days as I would wake up everyday with fresh bites and they were sooo bad (this would probably be a big reason as to why I wouldn't consider going back, but I know it probably couldn't have been prevented to an extent). Overall we had a great time and would recommend it - I do think this was helped by the upgrade and access to all of the other resorts. I would say if you're adults with no children and are happy to spend a bit more then definitely look at staying at the Ambar resort (I don't think everyone at the Punta Cana had the upgrade to access everywhere). But we were happy enough with the Punta Cana :)

A week was not long enough!

808aprilt (London, Canada) on Jul 16, 2024

This trip was planned with our Mothers and it was great. Only drawback was that our rooms were not close together, which we asked about but was never addressed by staff. Otherwise, hotel was beautiful, rooms were big and nice, entertainment was great. Food was fantastic, we never went to the a la cartes because the buffet with its individual stations was more than we could have asked for and delicious. Pool is great at Aquamarine but tiles are slippery so beware and be careful. Beach is good but crowded, so is the buffet lunch there.
