Good & Bad.....
JulesnDeano (Moreton, United Kingdom) on Sep 09, 2024
Stayed with friends from 23rd August to 6th September for our Wedding anniversary, and experienced both good and bad during our stay..... Good: Rooms are spacious, clean and kept well stocked with clean towels and bedding - didn't know house keepers name but they were very good. Bed and pillows are very comfy. Beach - sea was amazing, warm and clear....adult beach not so great - overcrowded, sand had hidden rocks ( think I fractured my toe on one) any sunbeds at front of beach that had cover were reserved by 6am each morning (even though hotel policy states does not allow this!). Exclusive area on the beach seemed to be a waste of time, hardly used - luckily we didn't get hassled by the reps who were trying to sell it. Food - hit and miss, mostly quite tasteless except for Tao Cat and Belovd....was extremely sick after eating at Rodeo which ruined our last day. Stayed away from Twist bar, found the boys at family bar a lot friendlier and their Espresso Martini's were amazing! Outstanding staff for us: Luis, Anyello, Arani and Berenace (not sure spelt that right!) at Beach bar Rachel at Belovd Marco who we chatted to in Tao Cat. Some staff liked to try their English out on us, we learnt a few words of Spanish but some staff made it clear they couldn't be bothered trying to understand us....some occasions we were seated for breakfast and then just left. Although it was nice to be surrounded by lots of other nationalities (in our first few days there were only 6 Brits there) we won't be returning here.
Catalonia La Romana Resort, Dom Republic

The resort is nice. They could use a lot more shops and vendors. There were no vendors on the beach either, definitely I wanted vendors on the beach. The hotel staff encouraged to NOT shop away from the resort. We were repeatedly warned we would be taken advantage of, sold fake stuff and our credit cards could be compromised. Disappointing. The food was poor; very poor. Disappointing. They did have a really nice feast on Christmas Eve - but that was the only really good meal. Breakfasts were "okay." The rest of the food not so good. The drinks were awful. I swear they didn't have the right ingredients to make a proper margarita or most any other drink for that matter. The rooms were really good. The spa was really good. Both of those I'd rate 9/10. The swim up bar staff was really sweet. We liked them a lot. I did not like the restaurants or the greeters for the restaurants. I especially did not like the concierge (worst ever) or the sales people at this Catalonia (way too pushy). The beach was definitely not my favorite either. I posted a review of my disappointments earlier and never heard a word from their management, nor was I able to contact them either. After visiting this resort in the Dominican Republic it is safe to say, I never want to go back to the Dominican Republic, especially this resort.
Paradise

The stay in the hotel was great. I absolutely recommend this hotel for your vacations whether it is a family or couples trip. Staff was outstanding, always willing to help you out with anything you needed or request. In addition, I wanted to specially thanks to Mayquer who helped me and my family since the beginning, he was really helpful and always happy. He also arranged our tours and transfer from and to the hotel. Regarding the beach, it was a paradise, water was hot and sea was clean. We did not have any hour restrictions to be in the sea nor the pool. The staff of the hotel entertains you 24hs with games, shows and music. However, if you needed a quieter moment, you were also able to get it since facilities are pretty big. Food was also great, around 7 restaurants to pick from. Make sure to book those restaurants you want ahead of time! They run out of reservations quickly. I will be going to the same hotel next year.
Exceptional Hotel in every aspect

I stayed here with my partner for 14 nights between March and April and we have loved every minute of our stay. The choices for food and drink are exquisite. It can be quiet in the evening but it makes for a very relaxing stay. The rooms are modern and spacious and have everything that you need. The gym is small but has everything you need. The beach is gorgeous with a bar near by which serves sushi during the day time
Fantastic experience at Catalonia Royal La Romana

We stayed at the resort from August 3rd to August 10th and would recommend this resort 100% we were more than satisfied. If you’re looking for a nice resort, good food, great beach, and time to relax you’ll find it here. My wife and I were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and booked the Romance Deluxe Room Package which included a couples massage and romantic dinner on the beach. We had booked back in April and all the reviews were excellent but in the last few months, we started seeing negative reviews and started second guessing our choice. After staying at the resort for a week and experiencing everything it had to offer, we where more than satisfied. Don't pay attention to the bad reviews. Most of the staff at the front desk, restaurants and bars spoke some English but for the ones that didn’t they understand some English and we spoke a few words of Spanish and ended up having wonderful conversations. Rooms are spacious, modern with large showers & baths, the resort is also modern looking. With our package we had a couple’s massage included, it was so wonderful we booked a second massage. Restaurants – We had dinner at all the restaurants, Bloved, Tao-Cat, Thalassa & Siwichi all were 5 Star dining but our favorite was Bloved. We also had a romantic dinner on the beach overlooking the sunset which was amazing. The beach is as advertised crystal blue water, sand, no seaweed and super clean. We never ended up going to the pool not even once when you have a beach like that, we stayed at the beach all day always something to do. Our go to bar during the day was the beach and at night was the Lobby Twist bar. They had entertainment every night at the resort from singers to Karaoke but one night we went to the family side to the Michael Jackson show which is a must see. A few staff members that stood out for us are Ariel at the Lobby Twist bar, he is an artist at making cocktails. Rachel & Isidro at Bloved (I hope I spelled your names correctly) treated us like family and on the morning, we were leaving for home they went out of there way to say goodbye to us. In summary, what makes this resort great is the staff, everyone from the front desk, severs, bartenders, chefs, beach, maids and gardeners worked very hard to make our vacation a success. We left with wonderful memories of the Catalonia Royal La Romana We can't wait to be back in the future. Thank you
