It was a okay stay . Cheaper than other hotels and you get what you pay for . Nothing horrible but just okay place . For families with little kids , the splash park is the best part of the hotel !
Third time here and it’s changed…
Abundantsteph01 (New York City, New York) on Jul 12, 2025
This was my third trip to Melia Caribe Beach and because the previous times I absolutely loved it, therefore I rebooked for this trip. Now I will say my parents came to the trip with me this time and did enjoy it but for me I want to highlight the changes I’ve seen the third time around. This review will highlight positives and negatives. My stay was at the Level side all three times. I want to say if you want more of a relaxing family time stay there. When I went to the regular side to look at the pool I ran out asap it was party central at the pool with families and lots of music and dancing, drinking and crowded. Wasn’t my vibe but if that’s what you want then regular side is for you. Previously I was amazed by the attention in service, food, activities and overall aesthetics. I can see the quality going down in some of those areas. While I get things are changing due to economy I would hope not to see that much impact when vacationing. Food The main lobby of hotel is where the majority of a la carts restaurants and the main buffet Mercado. Previous visits the food looked so fresh, taste so good but now the food is tasteless and I’ve seen repeat of food that was offered during lunch and dinner. One night looked like they ran out of food. Unfortunately I ended up getting sick for a whole day and could barely get up from bed because of what I ate. The last night the buffet Mercado looked as though food was scarce I chose not to eat much that night it just didn’t look appetizing. The food at riviera which is exclusive to level guest was better. It’s smaller and less options but quality does look better to have breakfast and lunch there. I did see a dead roach by the food my last day. Service- Level includes an assigned concierge. We met him first day he introduced himself sent menu for spa, reviewed map of property we asked for reservations gave days/times and options he said he would try and let us know. Never did make the reservations and honestly never really heard from him until my last day when checking out. Previously our concierge checked in each day. Both previous times they left something for us in the room like wine or some treats and nothing. I asked questions and it just seemed like I was bothering him is the way it felt. My AC didn’t work for a day and it was the day I was sick from the food. I called for service twice and mind you I had to call from the other room I had reserved because our phone didn’t work and nothing. No one came to fix it. The next day I messaged my concierge who responded would take care but still nothing so I ended up having to go to front desk myself. They apologized and went to fix it immediately. On the second night, I also asked for an extra duvet and they said the request was resolved but ended up having to put in a second request because we never received it and when it arrived smelled like a wet dog. I will say a positive was on our last night we asked if we could do late check out which they honored and during that time they asked us about the experience. I shared what I’m writing here and they were very apologetic. I’m appreciative of their apology and accountability. Some of the staff are honestly hit or miss. Some staff look miserable with attitudes like they don’t want to be there and some will actually be really nice. I have to give a huge shout out to Lisbeth at the Riviera restaurant she is a gem. She’s made up for all the other attitudes. She was warm welcoming each day and although they looked understaffed she made sure to take care of my family. She went above and beyond! The last day people all over resort suddenly appeared so friendly. This was the service I had hoped for since day one. Rooms- Rooms look older and outdated and honestly they did before. But cleaning it goes along way. I’m not here looking at each crevice but you can tell and smell when something is cleaned well. My room wasn’t but my parents down a floor was. On Our last night we had to shower with cold water. I felt like I was back on the farm showering with cold water. Tip on rooms. Ask for a front facing room. Less mosquitos in the patio. I suggest also bringing bug spray fyi. Nightly entertainment- I want to say this area was still great! Each night they have shows and throughout the resort there are activities as well. Ask for a calendar. They really do try to make activities very family oriented and I appreciate that. It was fun each night. I do think there should be something more pre-teen/teen centered activities. Maybe like a competitive sports game or something with video games. Resort The property itself is gorgeous outside. Very well kept, great walking area I mean that is 5 stars just in the aesthetics. The lobby is beautiful too! Bring mosquito repellent for the lobby. The level pool was nice it’s cleaned each evening. The kids water park is amazing and now they serve more snack like foods there than before. My family had the time of their lives. This time around there was only one train that takes you to the beach from main lobby. That train had stopped working one day, was super crowded others which caused a long wait time so we ended up walking a lot. Before it was two trains. The last night I was there, I did see the second train so maybe it’s because the hotel was more crowded. Overall, I want to say this may be my last time here. I am disappointed in how things have changed and maybe it’s just overall because of the economy but I’d rather spend 3k somewhere I can sleep in a cold AC room and eat food without feeling sick or even just feel like I’m receiving what I paid for. I didn’t want to be constantly complaining and I don’t like to be a pester to people but I do wish the experience was better. If you are coming here, make sure to stay at level. I can’t imagine how it is on the regular side. Also if you’re looking to relax it’s better there as well.
