Worst resort in Punta Cana

JOHN A on Dec 19, 2025

On 12/10/2025 phase one My wife and I arrived at the Meliá beach Punta Cana. This is the worse resort we have ever stayed at. When we were dropped off by my driver no one came to get the luggage. I then took my luggage to the counter and stood there for about 20 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. The first thing that was asked if we belonged to the Meliá rewards thing. I said we do not. Then they went-on and on about this reward thing which turns out to be like a time share pitch. I then stopped them and said I just want my room. Well here is we’re phase two begins. To get to the room you have to be taken on this golf cart and the room is like 1 mile from the main lobby. Phase three. The room was a disaster it smelled like mold from the point you open the door. The room felt humid. I then looked for where was the return for the AC and when I found it up in the ceiling by the entrance the filter looks like it had not been replaced in years not month. I went off on every one complaining of how old and in need of a renovation the room was. I had been staying at the Majestic Elegance for over 6 years two and three times a year and never went through anything like this. Well back to the resort from hell. No one says good morning or anything the staff barely acknowledges you. Now day two. When my complaining reach Zully, that’s when things got better. Zully should be the general manager of this place she cares. She not heard she listened and took action quickly. Mind you that My wife and I were here for our 27th anniversary. Zully took us from room 0303 to 0111 and she made sure the room was cleaned, filter replaced I mean she went all out. But know we come to the entertainment it sucks. Not fault of the entertainers but the way it’s all set up. Well getting around this place you better be in tip top shape because there is a lot of walking if you don’t wait for the only two trolley carts transporting people. This is one place I will never ever recommend nor come back again unless they knock it down and rebuild it. I gave one star because you don’t have a choice of not leaving zero star. If it wasn’t for Zully and the cost of booking at the Majestic Elegance I would have done so. The last place I stood like this was the Ambar which is another one I would never go again. Hard-rock is awesome, Barcelo’s are good Phase 4 When you go to the beach you even have to pay for using the cabana. That is crazy. If you have already booked your stay here make sure you ask for Zully she is THE BEST!!! The Melia Beach is a trap were they give you horrible room and then try to give you a tour of the Paradisus and try to sell you a time share type deal. While sitting y the pool here at The Melia Beach 80% or more of the workers walk by and don’t say hi. I know that I’m ranting but after spending what my wife and I work hard for and on our 27th anniversary I’m fuming. That God for our driver of 10 years he is always taking good care of us. Yesterday 12/15/2025 he took us to one of our favorite beaches Bahiaybe en la Romana. The food at the MELIA IS HORRIBLE. Flys all over the food this is at the Sependipre restaurant by the beach. My wife asked for coffee and then she asked for some sugar and the girl behind the counter said it’s there which was right next to the girl who she asked. The girl did not make any effort to get it. I then sat down and drank the coffee and took the cups and plates to the counter and the girl just looked up and said nothing, not even thank you. I will never ever come to the resort nor will I recommend anyone not even my enemy. The group of animation they worked hard to make your stay pleasant and happy, but the up keep of this place is better to knock it down and redo it all over again starting form the corporate because if they permit this they should be fired. I’m so happy to be leaving here. I recommend the Majestic, Colonial,Elegance or Mirage. We tried this after ten times going to Majestic and we regret it big time. Sorry for this ranting but I just have to let it out. It’s not just me we spoke with others and they felt the same even people that say they have been coming here for many years and they see how this place has been going down hill. Rooms stink of mold bathrooms are awful no closets just a shelve with a 99cent curtain to cover it. The safe did not work after worker tried and I replaced the card needed to activate the safe. Well with all this said I will finish by saying. THIS RESORT SUCKS!!! But I give many many thanks to Zully, Jeremi Garcia they went beyond the call of duty. They were AWESOME!!!

BIG, beautiful, but not 5*

Big, beautiful, but not a 5* We visited this resort from Dec 9-Dec 17, and we both agreed 0-10 we would rate this resort at 4 overall. There were good and bad things. The resort is about 25 mins from the airport which costs 30$. The lobby is beautiful, it has the wellness/relax look. When we arrived it was 1.30pm and we couldn’t get our room until 4-4.30pm. It was very upsetting because we were so tired and hot. Our last two days were constantly disrupted by people offering spa, dinner on the beach, and excursions . The worst was when we were SLEEPING on the chair by the pool and a staff came over and forced us to go online and leave the resort a 5* review!! It also happened at our dinner at yumai , after we were done the server came and asked us to scan a code to leave a review, stood above my head until I left a 5* review! Lastly at our check out the girl said “let me show you how you can review our hotel”. I gave her my phone and she didn’t just show me, she rated it! I do want to shout out people at the swim up bar, who were always in good mood, dancing and singing. Also, a concierge Zully, this girl was super helpful and awesome! I had a swollen knee and asked for some cabbage (home remedy) and she actually got it for me!! Checked on me every day how I was feeling. Food You have 3 restaurants (1 at level)+buffet 2x -vietnamese for me it was 0 out of 10 but a lot of people loved it -yumai, traditional Dominican was a great experience by the beach *10 -Mediterranean was really good 8* -quimerra also very good 8* -lobby buffet (only dinner)for us was eh the service was kind of non existent and food was just okay 3* -buffet by the beach( only breakfast&lunch) Was pretty good, lunch had good choices *7. It took forever to get coffee or drinks for breakfast . ROOMS The room was not a happy place to be. Towels smelled pretty bad, there are TONS of mosquitoes, spots of killed bugs on walls, pillow covers looked worn out and yellow, and the covers are sheet/skinny comforter/sheet. The first day we came there was two plates of chocolates on the table and cabinet and they stayed there our entire trip! POOL/BEACH The pools are very nice never had any issue besides getting chairs in the shade. If you don’t put your towel down by 7.30 am you won’t get any. However the beach isn’t what you see in other places in DR, the sand is not white and the water was full of sea weed, yes I know we can expect that it’s just an FYI if you go in Dec. Also, the beach is limited, there are boats LOTS of boats which are separated by buoys. RESORT ASTHETICS The resort is very beautiful but HUGE. I love boutique hotels. It’s about 2 mile walk there and back(beach-lobby). They do have trolleys that come every 10 minutes or so. ACTIVITIES Daytime activities are not bad, volleyball, yoga, exercise classes, chocolate tasting, bike tours. Nighttime entertainment is not great. We have been to many resorts and this is second from worst. The first night we got there we said it’s a senior home. Considering this was an adults only resort it was far far away from fun. Silent party, MJ show, acrobatics and dancing weren’t really great. But again we had some good entertainment at other places so maybe we are just spoiled. Although, we went to the Meliá next door and the place was ALIVE!! Parties until 12 am! Vs our place was dead by 11pm even though it said “party starting at 11pm”! Maybe we just had very high expectations since it’s a 5* hotel and adults only. It’s really not bad , it just didn’t meet the expectations. Be careful if you are reading google or Expedia reviews they are probably by people who were forced on the spot to leave a 5* review !
