Holiday nightmare on returning home.

We loved this hotel so much this was our 2nd time here but we are so sad they let us down badly. We stayed 3rd July - 17th July arriving the day before the hurricane. They handled the hurricane well but the food at some restaurants was not good. We were sent packed sandwiches and breakfasts to our room, everyone got them but when we opened ours flies flew out of the boxes. Not a good start. Most of the holiday was nice apart from the hit and miss with the room cleaning and restocking of the mini bar, we must of asked 5 times for an AM clean but this only ever happen twice. They failed to recognize our anniversary which was special 25th which they knew about in advance as that's why we paid the extra for the room and privilege. Our problems started when we retuned home, To cut a long story short, We had contacted a very serious parasite/worms infection/from contaminated water/food and has been analyzed to come from the Mexico region. Were live in the UK and you cannot get this from UK. I have never felt so horrified on what I saw pass through my body!!!!!! We are still ill and our GP has had to contact the Tropical Disease Centre to get information on the best course of action to take. 5 courses of medication later and we are just starting to eat normal foods again. All I can say is over the two weeks we were there, never once did we see anyone test the pool water. Even after the hurricane when it took 5 men two days to shovel all the sand that had washed up from the beach out of the pool. They never shut the pool while this and removal of all the branches from the water took place. Just be mindful when staying here as we have seen many posts from their sister hotel Ocean Maya Royale having many sickness reviews posted. Please note we never left the hotel in the two weeks we were here and have had messages from other guests who have also been ill. We have as expected been brushed off by the hotel management & TUI. We will pursue this. Take care :(

I might be throwing a cat amongst the pigeons here, but has anyone else been disappointed with the food at CRT? We came in April, we loved the setting of the hotel rooms amongst the jungle ??; the wildlife we encountered along the paths through the complex ??; the walkway through the mangrove trees leading to the beach ???; the beach, THAT beach ??! We had the most amazing time during the day as the beach is just beautiful, but… were hugely unimpressed with the food, especially at the various restaurants in the evenings. We didn’t grade up to Beloved, but from my experience with the ‘variety’ of food in the restaurants I’m not convinced it would have been any better, and in my opinion, why should we have to pay extra for decent food? It wasn’t only the quality of food in the evening, it was as much about the general ambience. Whilst the hotel promote their different restaurants, (Mexican, Italian, The Grill), they all felt exactly the same: staid, drab and dull. If only to avoid this, if you’ve booked to go then perhaps the upgrade to Beloved would be worth it as your evening meals would be eaten by the beach. If you choose not to upgrade, we found the best restaurant to be the tapas restaurant, which had a nice little seating area on a terrace. Just intrigued to see if anyone feels this way as all I ever see are positive reviews of the food, (or is this because comments like mine simply don’t make the cut?!)
