Relaxing week away

Matthew I on Jun 09, 2024

We booked this as part of a TUI package which was well organised throughout, including the staff at El Dorado who ensured a seamless stay. Make sure to use the full extent of the resort as it is well equipped and has a range of spots, meaning you can have an entirely beach or pool day or spend a full day on activities. The staff are excellent, with special mention to the entertainment and activities team (Benjamin, Jesus, Luis and Adrianna) and Janett who worked at the Cotorros Bar. We got to know them well and they put in a lot of effort to make sure we enjoyed our stay. Left off a star as a lot of the restaurants were closed without this being mentioned and a lot of the time we found this out through word of mouth or by actually going to them to find that they were closed. It may be that this was stated somewhere but wasn’t communicated on arrival and the majority of guests we spoke with found out in a similar way rather than through anything official from the resort. We think this was due to the resort being quieter than normal, which was beneficial for more space/loungers during the day but resulted in a more disappointing food experience. Mostly buffets and a couple of bookable restaurants were open which were okay but wouldn’t recommend going here for the food/Mexican food as we had been looking forward to this especially. Beautiful resort and great staff. Would go again for a completely relaxed holiday.

5th Visit to Seaside Palms, unexpectedly disappointed

heather m (Ajax, Ontario Canada) on Jun 07, 2024

Seaside Palms is our favourite place in Mexico which is why we've returned so many times.  Again, going to celebrate a big life event we expected the same special things the resort has done in the past when we've returned as repeat guests, celebrated our Honeymoon, and celebrated a 50th birthday.     This time we were sadly surprised and disappointed that the resort did nothing. Nothing to mark our 5th time returning to stay and nothing to celebrate my 60th birthday.     Very surprising as my 60th was discussed twice with the Guest Manager, again at check in as well as with two Personal Concierges. When asked days later by our Concierge how we were, we were told we left the do not disturb sign on our door at dinner - basically our fault for nothing being done.   Oh, boy.     Only after letting him know we'd seen banners, and heard that some people had received special things, did someone come in & spelt out 'happy birthday' on our bed almost a week after my birthday.   Things have changed since our last visit.   Beyond the lack of a welcome back appreciation gift that had been standard, or any of the many ways the resort marked my 50th ( a huge 'towel cake with hibiscus flowers' left when the room was made up in the morning, all restaurants aware so special bday greetings and written notes on desserts, a banner on our door, a cake and candle at our beach dinner), we found a rotating list of unexpected restaurant closures over the two weeks we were there, and a lack of communication between check in staff and Concierges.   From speaking to other guests, everyone was confused about what was open, what wasn't.   Everyone was also being given varying levels of access. Unusually, we also were approached on the resort beach by men selling hats and cigars and one day repeatedly approached by a guy selling drugs.   We told our Concierge about him but, two hours later, the guy was still going up/down the beach. That's a security issue.   Some of the restaurants still run like a top, but there were times at others where we'd see staff standing around talking to each other.  Until I requested, there were no usual towel animals to greet you when the room was made up.  Beautiful scents no longer sprayed in your room.  Little and big things that made this a 5 star experience. Now, Seaside Palms is still gorgeous and we did have many wonderful staff as well.   They now have Mexican food offered at multiple locations throughout the resort and it is fabulous.   A wonderful new addition. Staff who went above and beyond -Domingo/Frontera, Alonso at our swim up, Christiano/bartender, Florencio/Mi Casa, Flora/Conchita Pibil, Emmanual...... If you go, research.    Everyone we met who was staying there was still in love with the location but concerned about what was happening post Karisma departure. All were unsure about whether to return.    Is this transition going to end well......or not???? We returned to Seaside Palms bc we've always been made to feel so special. We never, ever expected to feel my birthday was ignored. So despite the gorgeous location and wonderful people we met, that lack of celebratory acknowledgement, as was so usual, left a residual unhappiness about this visit to Seaside Palms.
