This hotel has the potential to be amazing but....

Having read all previous bad reviews, we were apprehensive about our stay. To a certain degree, the reviews were accurate. The checking in experience was dismal, the staff were disengaged and showed very little interest in their guests. We had booked a Twin Room and I emailed on 3 occasions before arrival to confirm our booking, other than an acknowledgement email, my query was ignored and upon arrival we were allocated a room with 1 Queen Bed and a Sofa Bed. I was informed that the hotel was full and no other rooms were available. We were a party of 3 adults so a sofa bed was not adequate. Upon arrival at the room, the sofa bed was not even made up. The room was very clean and spacious, however, there was a constant smell of sewage coming from the shower drain. Overall, the foods was poor, whilst there was a varied choice, it was repetitive, bland and luke warm. There was always plenty of staff at the buffet, but we always had to wait to be seated and the table drink service was very slow and it frequently felt like you were being ignored. There were some restaurant staff that stood out, Shauntey was charming, always happy, smiley and keen to help. The bars often ran out of drinks/ingredients but on the whole, the service was ok. The pool area had plenty of sunbeds but a shortage of parasols, so towels would appear from 7am to secure beds with shade! The beach was lovely, with plenty of beds and parasols. This was our 5th visit to Antigua, but the first to the Royalton. The hotel has the potential to be an amazing resort, however, the poor management is letting it down badly. Whilst we did enjoy our stay, I would not return until there has been an improvement in management, catering and overall attitude of the staff.

My husband and I were celebrating my birthday February 1st to the 14th.The accommodations were great and the staff amazing! But for the price we paid the food was subpar and downright disappointing!The food was poor quality and overall tasteless The only good food could be found at the buffet.For over $800 a day I expected more, Marriott needs to step it up! The best food we had was on an excursion .yikes.We spoke to many guests and heard the same complaint.We will not return due to this reason What a shame considering the island is so beautiful.
