Very clean and extremely convenient
CaliforniaPlanner (Seattle, Washington) on Dec 11, 2025
This is a nice, very clean hotel in an extremely convenient location. I'd been to Waikiki once many years before, and the hotel we stayed at then, though it looked nice, had roaches, even in the bed!! So I was apprehensive about being in Waikiki again, but our room at the Hilton Garden Inn was spotless, and we didn't see a single bug there for our entire 8-night stay! For that reason alone, I would definitely stay there again, but an added plus was how close the hotel was to pretty much everything—the beach, Target across the street, endless restaurants, buses to all over Oahu (which we took nearly every day), etc. Was it perfect? No—we had a problem on check-out, when I noticed a charge I wasn't expecting on our final bill. I wasn't sure what it was for, so I asked and was told it was for self-parking in some lot. But we didn't have a car! The clerk showed me something that listed my name and room number on a particular date as having parked somewhere, but that literally wasn't possible. As I said, we took buses everywhere, including to the North Shore, because we didn't want to deal with having to rent a car. The fact that a charge like this could be put on someone's bill concerned me, even though they got rid of it, because it was my name and room number. So, be sure to check your bill when you leave. Other things I wished were better were the room lighting (very dim), the fact that the TV's schedule doesn't show you more than the next couple of hours, and the pillows, which were very hard. Luckily I asked at the front desk if they had any softer ones, because I was ready to go buy one at Target if necessary. They did, and that worked out okay. One other thing that's probably just a personal quibble: The bathroom, though spotless, was dysfunctional in some ways. There was no place to put the bathmat, so every day the housekeepers rolled it up neatly on the floor by the shower. And there were just two small pegs for hanging towels. Why not install more functional hooks of some sort and a towel rack for the bathmat? Also, though I got used to it (and some people may prefer it), the shower pressure was very strong—kind of shocking to the system the first time you use it, though it may have been just our room or floor. Finally, I do think the resort charge is a bit much, given what you get. Especially since there's no breakfast provided, it would be nice if you could use your daily resort credits for, say, a pastry or something else food-related. We didn't end up using any of our resort credits, though we did try the pool (small and a bit cold, but okay) and went to a yoga session with Phoenix, which was good. In sum, despite the biggest problem (the incorrect bill), I really liked this super-clean and convenient hotel and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
