Very Disappointing accommodations and service. Misleading website. Much better choices available.

Eric T on Dec 11, 2025

The last time I stayed at the Westin Kaanapali was in 2006. I had the exact same experience in December 2025 as I did in 2006. It wasn't great. I bought an ocean view king room. On both my visits, I asked the front desk if my room was a ”good room.” Both times they told me it wasn't their favorite, but that they were at capacity and to take a look at it. I did. This time again, my ocean view room was more a view of the garbage area, a rooftop and the building directly across from me. You could see the ocean from the spartan balcony off to the right. But you had to also endure the garbage. I called the front desk, and eventually they were able to change my room, but not before telling me I was just going to suffer the room for one night and pay more for an upgrade the next day. Two hours later, while speaking with a manager, an ocean view room in my category suddenly came open, and they moved us to the room and view they advertise on the website. When we moved into that room, we discovered that it was an adjoining room with very noisy neighbors who smoked (against the rules). I told the maid, and she said she was going to report it. But for the next 4 nights, we could hear the neighbors snoring, talking at 5:00 AM, and could even hear them open and close the shades to the balcony. The maid said that perhaps the adjoining door was open on the other side. Terrible.... While the pool was great, the accommodations were absolutely unacceptable. During checkout, I told the front desk about the experience and my prior reports to house keeping. The reception attendant told me that it was too bad and that she hoped we would have a nice trip home. No offer of any accommodation at all. Just sorry. Later that week I received an email from the manager (Bipin) again apologizing. I told them that I paid thousands for specific accommodations and a vacation experience that were not provided. The Manager has yet to reply or attempt to make this right.

An exceptional experience that exceeded all expectations

mjacob87 (Denver, Colorado) on Dec 09, 2025

My wife and I came to Maui without our kids and selected this hotel based on its location. We had relatively low expectations as we have stayed at the Westin KOR (vacation club villas) and found that property to be bland. The Westin Maui blew our expectations out of the water. The property itself is incredible. It is lush, with manicured grounds, and incredible pools and water features. The room we selected (one-bedroom premier suite) was stellar. The views were astounding and the room itself was modern, clean and great. Undoubtedly, there is some noise from Whaler's village (delivery trucks early in the morning - the hotel should lobby for a noise ordinance in the area), but it didn't bother us as we were up early. Our room gave us access to 'the Lanai' which is like an M-club on steroids. Its really hard to understand the layout without seeing it in person but they have cocktail pools, sauna, and lounge chairs all with ocean views. Food was substantial and great (some of the dinner bites weren't our favorite but that's okay). I highly recommend ensuring you have access to the Lanai. One thing I have to call out is the recognition of our anniversary and my Bonvoy status. We were given the most incredible tropical floral arrangement. We were astounded (look at the picture). We were very grateful to Valerie and the experience team who went above and beyond. Ironically, we finished our trip at the Ritz Carlton in Kapalua and were profoundly disappointed in that property. The Westin spoiled us in every way while the Ritz felt so sanitized and impersonal. Interestingly, it was not one person or thing that made this exceptional; it was a positive and special experience with staff, the property, the room, and every touchpoint. We will be back.
