Lovely experience, BUT!
Greekchick (Chicago, Illinois) on Jan 09, 2023
We stayed in the Hokupa'a Tower rooms. We did this to have access to The Lanai. The Lanai was lovely and has has tremendous potential. However, we were traveling as adults. The potentially CHILL space was over run by children's and young families . It's a the area was ruined by the children and families. It's a shame they cant designate this as an adult only sanctuary. It would be better used and appreciated. The food was nice and the bar was wonderful. Great setting. I don't think I would book this category of room again. The adult only pool at the hotel was wonderful. I did use the spa. Had a wonderful massage that was crazy expensive. The beach area was compromised from the recent storm. Sad. The hotel was busy. There was the Golf Tournament and the holiday. Nice week, but could have been better.
The Westin Impressed Us
Craig K (Los Angeles, California) on Jan 05, 2023
We recently stayed at the Westin Maui Resort for the first time, and we were impressed. Usually, when in Maui, we stay at the Hyatt, but the Westin matched or exceeded the Hyatt in some important ways. First, we loved the Lanai, a lounge for those staying in the Hokupaa Tower. Though a bit crowded when free (mediocre) food was offered in the morning and evening, the rest of the time, it served as a relaxing place with a great view. This was definitely our favorite part of the resort. Second, the Westin’s location, right on Kaanapali Beach, is excellent. The Hyatt doesn’t have a good beach. The Westin, however, sits on a nice, though thin and sometimes crowded, one. Third, like at the Hyatt, everyone who worked at the Westin was helpful and nice and seemed happy. I do prefer the Hyatt’s grounds to the Westin’s, and the Hyatt’s restaurants’ food was far better. The Westin’s food in the places we ate was mediocre or below; one place even served cheese sauce instead of real cheese on its nachos. Quelle horreur. This is an area they could improve. Otherwise, we were very happy that we had chosen to stay at the Westin.
