Better options available for the money

Great location! Excellent service. Overpriced but worked for us. The food is pricey but elites get morning food credits daily. The cabanas are a HUGE waste of money. Regular pool service, no designated server, our towels were taken twice from the cabana. There is not good security for patrons and outsiders. Many people would walk in, take towels, but were not staying there. Especially in the afternoon. Rooms are small, we got two rooms for family of just three. (Definitely skip Luau and go to Sheraton)
The Westin Ka'anapali is a beautiful resort... just needs more onsite entertainment.

In true Westin fashion, great staff, clean and comfortable rooms and facilities, and beautiful beach... BUT we found the pools to be very cold, to the point were it was difficult to acclimate, which usually happens when you swim. Also, there needs to be more to do for teens/kids on site. The kids club was closed, but there could have been other things (ping pong, checkers, Jenga, etc.) There was an unusable shuffleboard table, no sand or pucks, so that was a bummer. Sometimes, you just need a break from the pool or beach. The beach excursions where also right on our beach, too (snorkeling, jet skis, etc.) which was very convenient. The Whalers Market is literally right around the corner, so very close. It is like an outdoor mall with high end stores, some booths selling local stuff, restaurants, and a food court type section. We loved the gelato place and Teazentea! Being at the Westin made getting to the Whalers market easy, but there is just so many times you can walk it at night without being bored (we were there for 8 days). When I first heard about the Whalers Market, I expected it to be different... I guess I wanted more local stores, not Louis Vuitton, or Lululemon, etc., but it is close and convenient. The restaurants had good food at both the Westin and in the Whalers Market area, but I feel like chicken nuggets/strips should be on the menu for kids, at any vacation spot. Maybe not a popular opinion, I don’t know. The pool menu did have it, but I couldn't get it anywhere else for them. We also did the Luau at the Westin, and it was a really good show. The drinks and food were ok, but my teen and pre teen preferred to go to the kids section for the food. Unfortunately, they didn’t love that either. Basic simple items for the kids would have been great here. I just wanted them to eat something substantial, especially for the price. They ended up eating lots of bread and fun non-alcoholic drinks. Honestly, I expected the food to be better, BUT the show was really fun! If you are going to stay at this Westin, do the upgrade to the Hokup'a tower if you can. The breakfast, snacks, soda's/juices, and small dinner option they include are truly good. This hotel was chosen for me by my travel agent, but because I am looking for hotels with more onsite entertainment when we are not doing excursions, I would choose this one again. But I do want to reiterate that the staff was wonderful and the hotel was comfortable, clean and the grounds were beautiful! The things that bother me wont bother everyone. We ultimately had a wonderful stay in Maui.
