Friend’s trip

Maci B on Feb 17, 2024

I was at the resort with some of my friends, we really loved the beach and the pool. The food was ok, entertainment was excellent especially Dark blonde and the rest of the team. We have been here for 7 days and we’re thinking about coming back soon.

Beware

triptake37r (massachusetts) on Feb 05, 2024

If you do not speak Spanish, this is not the property for you. They speak very little English and 99% of the guests are Spanish speaking. We have been to Punta Cana many times before and usually the desk and entertainment people speak much more English, and the guests are from more varied locations. We chose Dominicana because we had been to Iberostar Tucan and Quetzel in Cancun and enjoyed them. Extremely disappointed in this property, although beach good, but a lot of surf, and property clean. Go early if you want a shaded area on the beach. The food is a big problem for hygiene. No problem with reservations but we asked for steak house, and LaCana is no more, and we were sent to the BarBQ at the beach, which is a set menu family style, but did like it. In the French restaurant the steak was like butter, but the rest of the beef on the property was tough and dry, and chicken dry. Service excellent there. There were 4 of us, and 3 had steak, and one salmon. That person threw up all night long. They do not seat you in the buffet, so you have to search for a table. If you grab one, and wait for it to be cleaned off, you will see they are not clean. The service is poor, and they clear the table, and brush off the table and place mats, and do not use any cleaning or sanitizing products. At the beach they grill in front of the beach restaurant, but at the other end of the beach there is a snack bar. A lot of ice cream flavors, salads and burgers and chicken burgers. However we saw them set out , and wrapped, as early as 10:30 AM. Saw a lot out still at 5 PM. How long have they been sitting there? Got home and 3 of us had the runs. One landed in the hospital dehydrated, and the test result was norovirus or Ecoli. So utensils are not clean, and the table is not clean. Who knows what else. They do not give you maps of the property, and their app is not accurate, nor their on line information. There was free WiFi and free safe. The activities on the app were not always accurate. Only 3 nights of the week had actual entertainment.. The rest was audience contests. Shorts are allowed in all restaurants. We had 2 toilet problems which were taken care of promptly, but no working phone for 3 days, and in the end you could hardly hear on it. The other room had no black out drapes, and the temperature would not go below about 77. They would not move them till check in time at 3 the next day. Very inconvenient and a sleepless night. So we would not stay there or recommend them to anyone. I hope you take some of the negative information seriously, and stay healthy.

Great resort in Punta Cana

distewave (New Jersey) on Feb 04, 2024

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the resort. The resort was under construction at the time, renovating the sister hotel the Punta Cana. From what I understand they share a lot of amenities including restaurants, so we did not get the full experience of the resort. I will say, I don't think it changed our experience much. Our concierge, Rafael was very attentive and helpful. The staff were very nice, though most only spoke Spanish, our Spanish is minimal, so communicating was a challenge at times. The room was a nice size, we had a garden view which was quite nice, and private. We were on the 3rd floor so we didn't have to worry about keeping the drapes closed when we were there. The room was stocked with drink in the fridge and a glass reusable water bottle. They did not have a full size ironing board, just a table top one, which made it cumbersome to iron dresses or blouses. Most channels on the television were in Spanish, we only found 3 English stations and one was a kids network and another was the weather channel. There were water filling stations throughout the resort. I was impressed at how environmentally friendly they were. There were no plastics used at the resort, drinks were served in glass and they used paper straws. There was one large pool and a smaller one, which were not crowded. The beach was busier but not overly crowded. It was well kept, not a seaweed issue during our stay. The ate at the buffet for breakfast and lunch. We made dinner reservations at the specialty restaurants two nights. I preferred the buffet over the restaurants, it was the better option. The Smoke house restaurant did not give you an option for meals, they only served one, it was a lot or meat! I enjoyed the meal at the Asian restaurant. There was entertainment during the day and night. There were beach games during the day and shows at night. One of the shows was cancelled due to the rain earlier in the day, but they substituted it with a show. Would I stay here again, yes. The people are warm and friendly and the resort is beautiful. The food was good and the beach was great. I will just need to brush up on my Spanish.

Good resort for young kids and grandparents

274kenr (Corona, California) on Jan 29, 2024

The good Iberostar Dominican is a beautiful resort on Punta Cana beach. The property is clean and well maintained and they keep the beach really clean. Rooms are spacious and we had the partial ocean view. The staff is fun and host a lot of poolside activities all day. The buffet is pretty good for all inclusive; a wide variety of fresh choices. We stayed for the New Year’s eve holiday and special Buffett menu was great. Just for FYI, Iberostar Punta Cana shares the same property and services. The bad This is not a resort if you are staying with teens or all adults. The evening entertainment was dismal, and only suitable for 6 year olds and younger. Our 13 year old could not use the gym, even if with an adult. This is a problem if your teens cannot go a week without training. The à la carte restaurants were very slow, one night most guest just left after not getting food for almost an hour, even though the restaurant was less than 50% full. New Year’s Eve festivities were disappointing - unorganized and not entertaining. Most guest missed the countdown at the theater because they thought it was happening on the golf course. But the golf course was the location for after midnight fireworks. The horrible At breakfast a wait staff asked us to check our phones for an Iberostar email, then proceeded to instruct us to start completing a hotel stay survey. I took a look and clicked on the survey, the waiter then asked me to complete the survey while she took photos of my phone. I felt uncomfortable with the situation and nicely said I would finish later. The waiter became very forceful, demanding I complete the survey right then. We were a family trying to enjoy our breakfast and this was very unprofessional. Message to management - this is unacceptable to harass your guest while they are dining. This makes me believe some favorable reviews are fake, completed under coercion staff.

Best beach, excellent staff and good food.

ROOMS: Getting dated (nothing bad, just a little shop worn) - Dominicana side is due for a renovation in fall 2024- very comfortable bed, clean room, good amenities. Good soundproofing too- nice and quiet. Good storage space. GROUNDS AND FACILITIES: Beautiful layout and grounds are meticulously landscaped. Constant landscaping, painting and general repairs ongoing for our time there. Marble floors and open air common spaces add a nice touch to the Caribbean atmosphere. Even with fully booked resort never felt over crowded. BEACH: In my opinion, the best on the Bavaro strip. Wide and flat with beautiful sand. Go either north or south and you will see severe erosion making seating a challenge. Palapa's are plentiful and need to be reserved by 10 am or you will be in the back row. Yes, the towel game is in full play here. Like it or leave it- Vendors are present but are not too pushy, just kindly say "no, thanks" and they will move on. Some are pretty funny with their sales tactics- One was carrying a parrot which you could have your picture taken with. .....He would yell out "Take picture with Dominican Chicken!" Hobie Cats, Sea Kayaks are available to use. POOL: Punta Cana pool was recently renovated- warm water and nice design- no swim up bar. Life Guards are present and we saw them do training early one morning. Be aware: the tiles around the pool and beach are EXTREMELY slippery when wet...saw several people take diggers. Drink service is available BARS: All have their unique atmosphere and are well stocked. Did not see or taste any weak or water downed drinks. 2 beach bars and maybe waited 3 minutes for a drink during the 2pm rush. Self serve soda machines are available too. RESTAURANTS: Buffets have a very good variety of food- each themed nightly- yes, you will find some items might be cold or could be refreshed but overall not a big deal. Some have complained of food sickness (every resort, not just IB) but don't eat the mayo in 85 degrees or questionable fish and you should be fine. We have never been sick in 5 visits. Specialty restaurants are hit or miss in quality- Mexican was very good. ENTERTAINMENT: The animation team works very hard here- always something going on from bingo to drinking games. Beach party had a fire show that was great. So was the foam party on the beach during the day. Nightly shows at 9:45pm are pretty good- only dud was "Circus Dreams" which was more musical vs. thrills. STAFF: Can't say enough about them...Excellent customer service and always want to make sure the guests are happy. Jamie, our Concierge was always greeting us throughout the day with a smile and asking if we needed anything. Bigger plus was hearing about his family and their story- get to know the people there since they are very proud of their heritage. From housekeeping to groundskeepers they all are very friendly. Overall this resort never disappoints. Excellent value for the dollar- Saw multiple infrastructure improvements ongoing and resort has plans to improve several buildings in the future. Mostly European cliental (Argentina, Portugal, Spain) which we enjoy since don't want to go to The Dominican to have an "American trip". Already looking forward to going next year!
