Amazing Value

erads (Waltham, Massachusetts) on Nov 24, 2023

We just got back from 7 nights in the family suite. We we very happy with our room, it was perfect for us. We loved the beach (especially the huge waves) and pool. We were never harassed at all. Our servers for the week were excellent and we will miss seeing them each day (Mignolia and company!). They were extremely welcoming and truly a highlight of our week. We loved the pool and pool bars. The food could be higher quality but we were always able to find something we liked, including one extremely picky kid. We would like to see a teen room with some activities and also a sports bar with some ESPN games (like in the American restaurant). We'd like the coffee area to have a coffee bar menu. When we ordered a frappacino, we were given a cappuccino (excellent though). There may be more offerings for kids but this needs to be publicized more. The resort is very large and spread out. We would also prefer resort to be smoke free. All in all, this was a great week and we enjoyed it very much. We found this to be an excellent value and will be even better when the other side, Punta Cana, opens.

Great hospitality and relaxing time (November 9 to November 13)

alexacer (Toronto, Canada) on Nov 19, 2023

First time in the Dominican Republic and had a generally nice time at the Iberostar Dominicana. It's my third time with the Iberostar chain. This visit I actually decided to become a Star Prestige member and I look forward to vacationing more at other Iberostar resorts (thank you to Tabitha from Affiliations) PROS Hospitality of staff - very nice and helpful staff. Thank you to concierge Miguel and Batista for welcoming us. Delicious cocktails - appreciated the fast and friendly service of the bartenders. My favourite was their Mojitos, Miami Vice and "Dirty Monkey". They also make great lattes and cappuccinos and were surprised they had non-dairy options like oat milk! Thank you to Felicia, Coralis and everyone in the Star Prestige lounge. Beach - the sand was nice and soft to walk on; no seaweed or other unpleasant smells. The waves are a bit rough though when we went. Selection of food - the main buffet had a nice variety of food and fruits that we enjoyed. We tried the specialty French restaurant and the salmon was the best entree from the menu. Dessert options were nice too. It is an outdoor buffet though so be careful of birds trying to sneak a bite of your food and it could be quite humid at times Pool space - the pools were very large and I had no problem enjoying it though we went when the resort was not really that busy. Distance from airport - the resort is only approximately 25 mins from the airport so it was very nice to quickly settle in after the flight. Check in process was very easy too. CONS Cold water in the shower - I stayed in room 4277 and there was no hot water for the shower. I asked twice for it to be fixed, but it never happened so showering in cold water was very unpleasant. Overcooked protein - regrettably the chicken and beef cuts often were overcooked so it became very hard to chew and consume. The seafood options were better prepared. Pop-up vendors on beach and in resort - vendors on the beach often harass guests to purchase souvenirs or purchase an excursion to Saona island even though you say no the first time. They constantly try to get you to buy something and will be very aggressive with trying to put on jewelry on you and take advantage of your kindness if you give them your attention. This happened to me with a pop up shop in the main lobby during my stay too. I understand they have to make a living but it became very annoying when we are simply trying to relax without being bothered. Overall would recommend to try this resort at least once

Iberostar Domenicana Puntacana

Sunshine12635628121 (United States) on Nov 17, 2023

Very surprised how Iberostar chain went down hill in every aspect this was the first time back since the Covid but nothing is the same , cheap poor quality food , no service , except for some older employees pre Covid ones like Santo front desk??, bartender lady at the casino , Daniel bellman and few more at the buffet area but only 20% at the staff cared the rest didn’t want to be there . Stay away from Domenicana Iberostar I regret going there this time because my prior experiences but is not even close to 3 star . I hope management looks into the issues and fix it to bring the quality back .

Gluten Free full review

Ileana A (Buenos Aires, Argentina) on Oct 21, 2023

We just returned from our 10 day trip to Iberostar Dominicana and I wanted to share our experience with gluten free meals and there are no many reviews in that regard. First of all, I atempted to contact the hotel in advance... it was very difficult to find a phone number or email address to obtain responses. I was lucky that my parents had The Club concierge email address that did replied. Unfortunately, althought I asked two times to have details on the options offered for celiac people, no detail was provided but the assurance that our needs will be fulfilled. I dont want this post to be long so I´ll summarize our experience. -Only the chocolate that was left in our room was possible to eat as a snack. We asked to be re-stocked so my son could had a sweat option after meals. -Almost non dessert was available: no ice cream, no cakes or pastries. We were offered a "vegan flan" that had no taste. -Breakfast: althought fruits were available, my kid did not like fruit as much so he only had omellette or eggs in different forms. Bread or muffins were available only if you find the chef available who had the keys to the special cabinet where they save them. Muffins were ok, bread was dry. Meals: every day we had to find the chef or ask for him. He will sepparately cook the meal. We were lucky my kid have very simple wishes: chicken, beef, rice, mashed potate or french fries. They did not had pasta options or pizza. They cooked for us some spaghetti I brought out with me. Specialty restaurants: the two restaurants most prepared where the French and the Smoke one, mexican and american one did not had many opions. In the french one, we did had a better option for dessert. Not in any of the others. In general, service from the chef was good but the waiters who took our orders were not knowgeable of celiac desease or gluten free diets as they incorrectly offered diary free or vegan options. I was honestly hoping more knowledge and more options already set in each restaurant. It felt every day they improvised what could be offered depending who was attending the kitchen or the table. If you are still plannign to stay here, bring you own stuff. Bring dry pasta, cookies, snacks, chocolates, etc. The buffet closest to the beach does not accomodate gluten free options. You need to go to the main one that opens for lunch at 1pm. There are no places to ask for food besides fruit after lunch hours until dinner time. Because we were club members, we asked to keep muffins available at the Star Prestige Lounge for tea time. Besides meals, the general experience at the hotel was very good... the room, the theather, the people, etc. But we were expecting more related to food and the attention received in this regard. I do want to thank the great attention of the following staff members: Limbert and Jessica from the congierge desk at The Club. Ciboly (I think it was here name) from the bar at the The Club. Estella who served us water and drinks in different restaurantes. We used to find her at the Marimba at night. Rosi, she was the person who helps us find the chef the first day (host at the main restaurant). The last person I cant remember her name, but she was one of the hostest at the main restaurant who always wore a red flower in her head and a beautifull smile. Kudos to all!!

Hotel is going downhill

cheryl P on Oct 16, 2023

It's was our 11th time at this resort. We have always rated this place a 5 star. We kept going back because we knew what we had and the waitstaff are exceptional and welcoming like family. This year was no different people and customer service top notch, however, their specialty restaurants were less than good. We have always had 3 nights of specialty reservations. The smoke house was awful We left and went to buffet, the second night was oriental and again. Was awful and left for buffet, last night was the French restaurant and although not what we experienced in the past it was okay. The buffet was always good with variety of foods. If you go don't waste time at specialty restaurants. Unfortunate but true and when this was brought to management's attention they said nothings changed. If it was our first or second time okay maybe we would be looking for something but 11 times we knew what we had and expected. Unfortunately the parents who owned the hotel gave it to their daughter who is going to ruin this establishment. It's a real shame. Positive.. .waitstaff shout to to manolia, jose, and wanita, housekeeping, reception, and casino staff A+, grounds are exceptionally clean. Rooms clean fresh linen everyday and room fridge always stocked with waters, sodas, beer. A/c nice and cold. Beach warm scenery gorgeous. This was the first time disappointed and not sure if we will go back (if we do it's for our friends we made there over the years) or try our luck elsewhere. One other disappointing thing was they gave me the survey to do day one and of course I rated everything based on our previous stays. Had I completed on last day they wouldn't have been scored 5 on everything. First time me and my husband were sick too. I wont say it was food, i would like to think it was ocean salty water but 11 times and bring other family members with us no one ever got sick. It truly was a big disappointment to see another example where family takes over and ruins a good thing. I hope someone will take notice We always go same time too and only 230 patrons compared to 700/800???
