WEDDING, Go somewhere else

357jakeg (Fargo, North Dakota) on Feb 07, 2026

To whoever is considering a wedding, Apologies for the serious delay in writing this statement. I had a destination wedding at the Occidental Xcaret and wanted to share some feedback on our experience. Overall, I thought the location was beautiful, the violinist we had was absolutely wonderful, and the wedding felt very nice. I think the hotel is generally very budget-friendly, the staff were very kind throughout, and the food at the Royal-level restaurant and the specialty restaurants was great. The buffets were average, and I was not particularly impressed. But it is a large buffet-style setting that serves hundreds of people at a time. Therefore, it is as you expect with a budget-friendly hotel. Regarding the Honeymoon Suite at the Royal-level hotel, I did not think it was worth the extra money we paid. I thought the privacy was nice; it was a very open space, but I really wanted to enjoy the hot tub. The tub was not properly functioning during 90% of my stay. I asked for it to be fixed every day, and once I said I was going to request compensation for the lack of a functioning hot tub, it was “fixed,” “fixed,” but we were already through most of our stay. The local staff are great, but working with management was extremely unpleasant. I also thought the wedding planning process itself was not very enjoyable. We found that the person there was essentially working solo and handling everything herself. In hindsight, she did a good job organizing the wedding, but everything leading up to the experience was a logistical nightmare. We were supposed to have everything done, signed, paid for, and ready to go over a month before the wedding, but we ended up finalizing it the day before we left for Mexico. Not ideal…. We were also supposed to get $1,000 off our wedding package for booking so many rooms, but they denied the request. We needed 15, and we only had 11 eligible. BUT we booked 26 ROOMS. 26…. But because we couldn’t get a hold of the booking agent, our guests were booking themselves, and it was even to the point that the wedding department called us, because our guests were calling for room blocks. It was NOT our fault that staff members were not available to help us with the booking process. It was difficult because you could not simply block a set number of rooms for each person to reserve. The hotel wanted me to put all of the rooms on my credit card. Not only that, but my mom had also passed away prior to our wedding due to cancer, and they made it so difficult for us to work with the reservations that were made in her name. It got to the point where I had to pay for everything with my card, and they were going to offer me a refund in the form of a “Credit” for a future stay. Are you kidding me…. After the nightmare process of planning the wedding, the cold “hot tub”, the denial of a $1,000 credit, and the transportation to the facility was a joke. I would not like credit, thank you very much. Regarding transportation, you can get a free ride IF you can reach them. Of the 57 people who attended our wedding, only three of the 26 parties got to use the free shuttle. Everyone else used a private group. All in all, yes, the Occidental Xcaret hotel was a beautiful location. I’d highly recommend the royal level without the high honeymoon suite, all in all, for a decent budget price. In regard to a wedding, save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else. CorporateManager: Oscar Cabrera oscar.cabrera@armcus.com
