Perfect Vacation

Jim M (Thorold) on May 03, 2024

We spent the month of February 2024 at this wonderful resort. It wasn't our first time staying here so we knew what we signed up for and it didn't disappoint at all. In fact we liked the month of February so much we went back in April for a week to celebrate my wife's retirement. Bahia Principe Sian Ka'an ticked off all of our boxes. We always felt very safe and were able to relax with out a worry in the world. We met so many people while on our vacation its is truly going to be difficult trying to acknowledging them all and I am sure to miss some of them so I apologize to anyone that I missed. I guess the best way to do this is to describe how one of our days went. Usually we would start our day by going for a walk around the Bahia Principe property taking in the sites and sounds around the golf course and looking at the wild life and beautiful grounds always feeling safe as you are in a gated community . After our walk our first stop would be to main bar at Sian Kaan where Gabriella would make us the best Americano to start the day. During our coffee it was time to do Wordle and Connections and decide if it was going to be a beach or pool day. (tough life). Many times during our morning coffee we would be greeted by Alejandro Garcia from Guest Services, he would ask how things were and he could help us with anything. Alejandro even arranged for a bottle of sparkling wine and personal letter to be in the room upon our arrival to celebrate my wife's retirement. Alejandro is a real ambassador for Sian Kaan and is an expert at his job...we expect to see him move up the ladder quickly. After coffee it was off to breakfast at the buffet. Here we were greeted with a smile and Daniel (Captain) would seat us and make sure that my wife's gluten allergy was taken care of. Chef Aaron's gluten free delicacies were very much appreciated(All food pictures are gluten free). From here it was back to the room to get ready for the beach or pool. The beach is a little rocky so bring some water shoes, the pools are crystal clear and always refreshing. We never had a problem getting a chair on beach or pool. We always made or way back to Sian Kaan for lunch as you cant beat the buffet there . There may not be as much to choose from as the other 3 Bahia Principe resorts but the quality of food more than makes up the difference...Plus Aaron would make my wife a wonderful lunch. The best gluten free pizza I've ever tried. If Aaron had a day off or had to work at the Cenote Snack Bar Chef Myra would look after my wife's dietary restrictions. It didn't matter who the waiter/waitress was you never had to wait long for your favorite drink or a soup spoon to be delivered (if you had soup) to your table. A couple of our favorites were Ramone , Suemi, Alina, Susana and Eglady who would give a Spanish lesson each day we had her. After lunch it was back to pool for the afternoon and more sun shine. After the pool it was back to the room for a shower and get cleaned up for the evening. Evenings usually started at the lobby bar for a pre-dinner cocktail and a few games of cards. During this time many times Iago the manager of Sian Kaan would stop by and make sure everything in the room was fine and if we needed anything. It so nice to see top management being hands on, out and about and not hidden in an office avoiding the guests. Almost all of our suppers were Al a Cartes. Be sure to use the Bahia Principe App to book your a la cartes early as the fill up fast. One of our favorite restaurants were Katok where Alexander took care of us , even though it is a steak house, the jerk chicken is fantastic and the brie cheese appetizer is amazing. Our other favorite restaurant is Alux...in our opinion it is the best of the best. Never a bad meal and the service is truly amazing . Roque is a great server BUT the other Roque (with glasses ) is our absolute favorite. You cannot beat his service with attention to detail with the timing of each course coming to the table and never an empty wine glass. We will be back!!

Relaxing Vacation

Sheila K (Ottawa, Canada) on May 01, 2024

We had been at this resort 9 years ago and thought we would try it again. We would go back again, the price was reasonable for what you receive. The rooms could use a little update but they are very clean. Food was good, a lot of variety. Staff are lovely, very helpful and kind. The ride to the ocean was easy but our last few days we spent at the quiet pool by Alux and it was amazing. Only disadvantage is distance from Cancun airport but we knew that when we booked

Great value trip!

My wife and I booked a late deal with TUI. We weren’t expecting too much but were pleasantly surprised by the quality of accommodation, pools, restaurants, rooms and overall service! We’ve more recently stayed at several sandals resorts and this hotel was fairly close to the same standard, at less than half the price. We stayed in a penthouse room (which was great and not much more than standard room cost) , did a scuba dive ( well taken care of as I was a bit rusty, plus saw a big nurse shark!:-)), did the free resort bike tour (which wasn’t too tiring as mainly on the flat), did the free eco tour ( mainly birds so a bit sad I didn’t see the crocs, monkeys or even a tarantula!:-)). Only thing a did extra without the hotel was a cenotes and akumel turtle snorkelling beach tour. We used the friendly turtle company and packed everything into 3 hours for $80 each. It was a private tour so far better value than a full days shared bus. Would deffo come back again, if I ever decided to do such a thing (too many places in the world to go back)

4.5/5 - Close to perfect

Having just come back from a week’s stay, we would recommend this hotel to any couples looking for a relaxing holiday. We arrived at the hotel after a roughly 80-minute coach transfer from Cancun airport with TUI. Upon check-in, we were offered cool towels and glasses of sparkling wine to refresh us, and the very helpful Angel Montiel took us through the check-in process. Upon learning we were celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary, we were offered a room upgrade as the resort wasn’t at capacity – this was such a lovely gesture from Angel, and we are really thankful for it. Following check-in, we were taken to the room in a golf cart along with our luggage and found a ‘Happy Anniversary’ banner and a bottle of sparkling wine waiting for us. Again, really nice gestures from Angel and the staff at Sian Ka’an. You can also arrange for buggy pick-up with your luggage for check-out, which we did via the app. We were originally booked into a Junior Suite but were upgraded to a Junior Suite Superior. The room was spacious and clean and had a small balcony. Minibar was included, with plenty of water, beers, soda, crisps and some spirits. The bed was large and comfortable, with so many pillows you could build a fort if you wished! The room didn’t feel tired and had possibly been recently refreshed and repainted, compared to some other reviews I have read. The bathroom was perfectly serviceable if a little bit dated. The shower wasn’t the best we’ve ever had, but certainly wasn’t the worst. The water pressure was fine, but you had to wait a few minutes for the hot water to kick in. One suggestion I would have is to provide a bathroom bin with a lid – these were available in the restaurant bathrooms and are much more suitable for a bathroom where you are not allowed to flush paper! Also the towels (bathroom and pool towels) felt a little bit old and rough, these are in need of an update soon. The environment around the hotel is beautiful. Set in the jungle, we much preferred the ‘vibe’ of Sian Ka’an to the other Bahia Principe resorts nearby. Sian Ka’an felt more intimate, and less like you are part of a mega-hotel complex. The other hotels looked perfectly nice but felt like you were in very well-groomed gardens, and felt more ‘artificial’, whereas Sian Ka’an felt as though you were still in nature. The wildlife around the hotel was plentiful, surrounded by colourful (and vocal!) birds, we encountered more lizards than we can count, and I did find a very small scorpion on the balcony one day, but it soon ran off once it noticed me. Surprisingly, the mosquitoes weren’t as bad as expected, with each of us getting only 4 or 5 bites over the week on occasions where we weren’t careful with repellent. Throughout our stay, all the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful, including the restaurant staff, bar staff, entertainment team, reception desk, housekeeping and shuttle drivers. The entertainment team (Sergio, Enrique & Alexander) were friendly and encouraging without being too pushy, getting guests involved in activities around the pools, and also offering assistance with anything else if needed. The pools were all lovely, none too cold or too warm! There were 4 to choose from at Sian Ka’an, plus a small paddle pool. If you want a really quiet relaxing atmosphere, I would recommend either the Sushi Pool (separate from the main resort area, towards the Golf Club), or the pool by the Alux restaurant. The Activity Pool was the loudest during the day, and we usually stuck the pool right by the Cenote snack bar – this had the right balance of peace and liveliness for us! The Sushi pool also had jetted tubs which were lovely to relax in, with its own bar. The food throughout our stay was good – we ate at the YalKu Buffet for Breakfast and Lunch each day, and one evening. The staff were friendly, always offering drinks top-ups and clearing plates quickly. I also noticed staff checking the food with temperature probes, which is great to see for buffet food safety. The food was good, with wide selections of cuisine available. There was a Mexican corner always available which was great to see, with a variety of salsas and sauces available in addition to main dishes. We had lunch at the Cenote snack bar a couple of times – this is a la carte for Breakfast & Dinner, but at Lunch it is buffet style. It was fine, but we preferred the wider selection at the main buffet. We booked into 5 A La Carte restaurants, which were throughout the 4 BP resorts: - Mashua Nikkei– Peruvian/Japanese – Food was fine, and service was good. Nothing wrong with it, but it didn’t stand out - Frutos del Mar – Seafood – Food was generally good – my husband seemed to make all the right menu choices, and I made all the wrong ones! Good service, I would just order differently if I went again. - Tequila – Mexican – this was a little different in that it was buffet style. However, the food was great, and tequila shots are a must! Great vibe and décor in the restaurant, with friendly service and sombreros available for picture taking. - Ku’uk – Gourmet Mayan – When we arrived, the table next to us was complaining that they had been waiting 40 minutes to place their order! We had to wait around 20 minutes ourselves, as the restaurant seemed to have only 1 actual waiter working, with 2 or 3 busboys to support. Once the family next to us complained, a manager appeared out of the back room to support the waiter in taking orders, which improved the speed of service for the evening, although it remained somewhat intermittent throughout. The savoury food was fine, but nothing special. The desserts however were great and were the best items on the menu. - Maiko – Japanese – Great food and service, although we both got bitten a couple of times whilst in this restaurant! Best dessert of the week for me. For most of these restaurants, you had to use the shuttle buggy service to travel between the different BP hotels. The shuttle service worked well, the longest we had to wait was around 15 minutes, but it was usually less than 10 minutes. Drivers were friendly, and always helpful in letting you know how to get to your destination. They also seemed to be constantly radioin g each other with updates, to make sure no guest was left waiting for too long. You could also catch the shuttle over to the Hacienda Dona Isabel. This is situated between the 4 hotels and has a selection of shops, a pharmacy, a casino, a bar and a nightclub. The souvenir shops weren’t particularly cheap and on par with airport prices. However, on Saturday night, there was a Mexican Fiesta night held at the Hacienda with Food, Games, Drinks and Entertainment. This was an additional fee of 300 Pesos per adult, but we felt was worth it. The food stands were great, and the Mayan part of the show was particularly entertaining. We didn’t see too much of the evening entertainment at the hotel, as we were usually elsewhere for our restaurant bookings. However, we did catch the end of the Circus and 80’s shows both of which looked good. I would avoid the Jazz band though, it wasn’t quite up to the same standard. There were also Silent Disco and Karaoke nights. The silent disco seemed very popular, and people were having great fun. The first guest to volunteer for Karaoke decided to choose Adele (bold decision!), so we made a sharp exit and didn’t stick around for Karaoke night! I would recommend downloading the Bahia app 10 days before you arrive, you can check in and start booking your restaurants, which helped massively. Once you are at the resort, you can use the app for all sorts, requesting housekeeping, room service, checking restaurant reservations etc. Overall, this was a good holiday, and we would definitely return in the future. Just a few small niggles that stop it from being perfect.

Wow what a place!!

Markhancock1973 (Swansea, United Kingdom) on Apr 28, 2024

Absolutely amazing experience from the food to the amazing staff, our first visit to this hotel and Mexico and it didn’t disappoint, we will without a doubt be returning. The hotel is situated at the top of the resort, so a trolley is needed to get to the private beach or other hotels ( they are about every ten minutes, and run until early hours). Try and book as many of the al a carter’s as you can, my fav was the don pablo and the thali.
