Love the Shorehouse!

Sarah C on Jun 15, 2024

Our stay at Shorehouse at the Del was wonderful! The valet was very friendly and fast and the housekeeping service was phenomenal. Our room was spotless every day. The pool area was gorgeous and it was nice sitting by the fire pits throughout our stay. Having a full kitchen was so convenient for making breakfast each morning. We ate dinner at both Serea and Babcock during our stay and both had great food and nice views. Even though the beach was closed during our stay, there was no shortage of things to do at and around the Del.

No smile zone

Our stay at "The Del" was horrible to say the least. If I could give negative stars I certainly would. I came here for a medical conference with MER. Our negative experience started before we even entered the hotel: Matthew, a valet, was curt and advised me that I would be allowed "exactly 20 minutes" to drop my family and our baggage off at the hotel room. The registration lady (Marianne) was also quite short, made us wait for several minutes although she was not helping anyone. I asked her where the registration desk was for my conference and she sighed, opened up her book advising me that she would have to look it up, and was visibly quite bothered by me although I was very nice about asking as I am in general with all people. After she "helped" me with that, I asked her if she could then help register us for our room at which point she was able to help us pretty well actually, however she forgot to tell us how to access wifi and even told us the wrong instructions for that after I asked her. What appeared to be an automated text from her gave the proper password for wifi. On our resort day, we spent some time at the pool and our waitress with large reflective sunglasses was also curt and quite impatient, I felt rushed when she came to "help" me. No smile at all even though I smiled and thanked her for coming over. When leaving the valets were once again rude, when I drove my car up to pick up my wife and 2 small children a valet zoomed past without warning clearly driving at an unsafe speed to the point of almost hitting my car! A cherry on top of a quite miserable stay at "The Del." They really need to retrain everyone to smile, be courteous and nice with everything. Give love, receive love, take note.

Unfortunately, average at best

Recently returned from a long weekend at the Hotel del. Thousands of people stay at this historic hotel every year so I suspect that my comments will not change anything about the experience. With that being said, there are many concerns that others should be aware of..... 1) Do not book a Views room. Make sure it says Resort view or Ocean view. We were attending a conference and had a 'discounted' rate of $595++ per night. We arrived late and were given a balcony room on the 3rd floor of the VIEWS. Our balcony literally had a view of a wall of the SHORES building that was built after the VIEWS building. I called the front desk immediately and was told nothing could be done that night, but to call the next morning. The following morning, I went to the desk and was told that there were very few rooms available for the weekend. There was one that had a partial ocean view for $200 additional per night. On the last day, I was texted by the hotel asking me if I was happy and had any concerns. I shared the above experience and was told that we were booked into a "Facility View' room. I had a view of the facilities. No where on their website do they advertise a Facility View room. There are Ocean front and Ocean view and Resort view, but not facility view. I suspect this is what a views room. I know for a fact that other attendees had nice views and did not have the view we had. The hotel did nothing to accomodate us in spite of having rooms available. 2) IF you pay $600-1200 per night, you would expect to be able to have a lounge chair on the ocean. Not True. Loungers are only included if you stay in a del Club room. The charge for a chair in the sand is $25/day. $50 for a Lounge chair that you can lay on. Comically, the cost of a double mattress lounger is seasonally priced and starts at $100 3) I was also put off by the constant tipping request. They have a walk-in place where you can buy sodas, beer, pastries, etc. A bottle of Modelo beer is $13. You pick up the beer out of the fridge. You walk it to the counter. You pay $13 + Tax and the machine asks how much you want to tip. This happens everywhere all the time. 4) Note: the historic part of the hotel is closed until Spring 2025 for refurbishments. 5) Because of sewage being dumped in the Pacific Ocean in Tijuana, the ocean has been closed to swimming more than half of the last 365 days. I don't mind paying $600-800 per night for a nice resort hotel. For that money, I expect to be treated well. I recognize that cocktails in the lounge will be pricey and there will be a fee for parking. What I found at this beautiful hotel was that no special attention was paid and everything, I mean everything, cost extra. It is unfortunate, because Coronado is a special place. They just dont treat their patrons like they are special.

Happy place!!

Danni0005 (California) on Jun 09, 2024

I always absolutely love visiting this iconic hotel. Everything about it is so fun and happy. The staff is the best! You can rent bikes and explore the entire island, which is such a delightful experience. The restaurants are great, and I particularly love having a drink at Serea late in the evening while enjoying the sunset. This historic hotel has really happy vibes that make every visit special. It's amazing during the summer, and Christmas is absolutely beautiful here. The beach is the best ever, and I can't get enough of it. I truly cherish my time at Hotel del Coronado!

First class hotel and stay, just be prepared to pay for that.

jhingle3 (Tucson, Arizona) on Jun 07, 2024

Stayed at the Shore House as a sub part of the Del Coronado complex. Beautiful hotel and we got a room with amazing view and deck. Perfect. Place is keep immaculately clean and well kept. All the staff were very friendly. Food at hotel, say by the pool, was expensive but very good and with ample portions. It should be noted that the historic part remains under construction and other areas are disputed. Was disappointed to book expensive messages only to fine not held in the hotel’s spa but temporarily in a modified hotel room. Also be ware with construction the self parking is full and very far away. Plan on $75/day for valet parking. Last comment is not so much about the hotel but everything in California was so expensive plus the expirations for 20%or 25% tips for even fast food and then the restaurants were adding a 2% to 4% surcharges for “higher operating and labor” costs. There are other vacation locations so sadly the State has priced itself off of my list. But want to end on a high note. The Del Coronado is first class and I will always recognize them for the great room we got and the awesome 5 star experience they delivered.
