Pleasant surprise

ilyag_Toronto (Toronto) on May 27, 2025

Just came back from Secrets St Martin. There are many bad reviews which I’m failing to understand. Yes hotel needs heavy face-lift, no doubt. Otherwise, all was great. Stayed in the swim-out suite building 4. Large and comfortable. Only issue was that housekeeping was done very late. Asked for it to be done before noon it didn’t really happen. Beach was fantastic calm clean water. Food: breakfast/lunch went to buffet. Dinner: Asian restaurant and there was another one with switching themes: Italian/French/Stake. Never issue with luck of food or variety. A lot of variety of alcohol in the bars. Took a while to adjust to hours of operations for bars/restaurants. Spoke with management a few times to comment them on the great job they were doing incliding chef. Overall great vacation will come back in a heartbeat.

delightful

Isabelle T on May 22, 2025

lovely, friendly, very good food and variety, clean and spacious, secluded beach, big pool, delightful stay, not much entertainment yet just enough, not "chichi" . I suggest repaving the road leading to hotel (but that is not in the hands of hotel). very nice experience altogether.

Hyatt Failed Us – Screats Resort Is in Shambles

Angela S on May 21, 2025

Hyatt should be ashamed to have their name attached to the Screats resort in Saint Martin. The property is severely run down, poorly maintained, and completely misrepresented. Guests are met with broken rooms, outdated bathrooms, and clear signs of neglect—mold, rust, and leaking showers that require towels on the floor to soak up water. Dining was just as disappointing: there were no working ceiling fans (which we were told were "just for aesthetics"), no lighting, and unsanitary conditions, with birds and flies swarming while we ate. Basic amenities like irons and ironing boards were missing from the rooms, and we waited hours to get one, likely due to understaffing. Despite these unacceptable conditions, the staff did their best and were incredibly kind and accommodating. They deserve better. Hyatt’s branding is misleading. This was not the experience promised, and guests deserve a partial refund. I doubt anyone from Hyatt will respond—but that silence is exactly why this place should be avoided.

Good value still in remodel

Matthew L on May 17, 2025

Pros: Location. Beautiful cove area semi private with great beach to sit or walk, calm water, beautiful views, and a marina. It's not that far from airport and 2 cities with good food less than 10 minutes. So great if you have a car and intend to roam or only want to stay put. Pool is nice- adequate size and various depths mostly not deep. Many nice grounds. Reasonably priced. No annoying towel policy. Most staff very friendly. Food: specialty resteraunts good but only 1 open a night beside asian open most nights and sometimes long wait (due to lack of help) Decent: Marina view room was large. Looked recently remodeled and fun beach decor.. A few minor lack of construction detail could have been done better. Annoying half shower door concept. Toiletries decent. Towels on thin side. Could improve: not usual secrets top notch entertainment. Just a nightly 1 person singing act by lobby back porch which becomes social gathering spot every night. Acts were fun but not secrets usual. Food: buffet food was ok at best. Entertainment by pool during day mostly non existent. Needs to have something like beach or pool vball. In pool pool bar was closed. Beach seaweed wasn't maintained like neighboring resort who raked it daily. Reality is the resort was closed for remodel and then opened for spring break. So as expected limited help which limited dining, activities, and more. The people who worked there worked very hard in many instances and you see people day and night. Be nice to them! So overall nice intimate place. Doesn't feel like a mega resort. It doesn't have a hot tub. No tennis. No golf near. Does have small gym. Hopefully it utilizes ocean view resteraunt in future. Everyone working there speaks English and French. Although 90% of guests were French Canadians when we were there. VIP lounge small and snacks nominal but bar tender great. There also is a small gift shop with lots of things you need. There is a cute shopping area across street with boutiques and a small grocery. I Recommend getting out of resort and checking out dutch side, different beaches, hike the countryside, and take an excursion to anguilla.

Beautiful beach, good resort, not crowded, but some restaurant issues.

Camper773523 on May 17, 2025

The Anse Marcel beach is beautiful and clean, sea warm, calm and clean. Beach was not crowded, and no hawkers bothered us. Room was as expected, clean, comfortable and well supplied, and room service was good. In fact all staff interactions were good. However two of the restaurants were out of service causing queues to form at the open restaurants, Restaurants meals were gererally good, with good menus, excepting the Himitisu restaurant, where the menu was unappetising, and service patchy. We loved the Coco cafe - coffee shop. There is a reasonable gym, which needs some TLC. Outside of the resort there were a number of closed up shops and restaurants - there were not many people about outside of the resort, and I dont know whether this is seasonal or an area problem.
