Fabulous time at Sol Varadero Beach 16+

35shawnam (Courtice, Canada) on Jan 08, 2025

I couldnt wait to get home to write this review after a wonderful time away at Sol Varadero beach (16+)! We stayed Jan 3-8 and were 2 female travellers. I’ve travelled extensively and been to Cuba many times and this small resort was exceptional! Below is a summary: Check in was easy and the staff at the desk were friendly. Yvonne and Roman in particular were so helpful with our room and helping me fix my phone to access wifi. Bellboy Eli was so kind and helpful and has become a friend to us, and activity leader Rigo was so wonderful with the right mix of encouraging fun but not being annoying ! Our housekeeper (Evelyn I think-room 1336) was so sweet too. Well done staff! ?? This is a smaller scale resort, which was easy to navigate, perfectly located around the pool and beach, and safe for us female travellers. Despite the smaller size, there was lots of activity around the pool and at night and we had the absolute best time. You can walk to town, or hop on the hop on hop off bus to go go further or into town wherever you like. Five dollars for a You can walk to town, or hop on the hop on hop off bus to go further or into town wherever you like for an $5 day pass. Our vacation was a 10 out of 10! I’m sure you’re wondering about the food situation. There are no shortages at this hotel. We had drinks on end (beach bar, pool bar, main bar, snack car, restaurant), including pop from bottles, water from bottles, alcoholic mixed drinks (Pina colada at main bar is amazing as are the lattes), beer, and both red and white wine. The red wine is from Chile and is excellent. The buffets offered lots of selection and everything was fresh. We spoke to so many people throughout our stay and not once did we hear anbout anyone getting sick. For breakfast they had an omelet station, fruit station, lots of pastries, lots of meats, including bacon, as well as pancakes and French toast. Sure things tasted a little different than home and they had some reception, but everything was fresh and tasty and we always left feeling stuffed. The latte with breakfast were a nice treat. For lunch there was always a salad bar lots of meats, pastas pizza, etc. Dinner was great and included variety of fresh cooked meat, like chicken and pork, a pasta bar, seafood, soup, and all of the sides. Again, no one got sick and so it’s nice to know you can try different things and not worry. My favourite part of dinner was a stirfry with vegetables and rice and soy sauce… Simple but delicious. We also could not make our reservations for à la cart on time, but we showed up at the restaurants and the host was happy to accommodate us twice. Thank you for that! The snack bar also has sandwiches, which are a Panini style, as well as hotdogs and hamburgers and fries which people we were with enjoyed and said were fine. For sauces, they had HP sauce, ketchup, mustard, and some homemade salad dressings. I noticed people also brought dressings with them, which you might want to do if you are particular. Rooms have been renovated and are spacious. They are not a five star type of room, however they were lovely, clean, and perfect for a beach stay. And no bugs lol! The only Issue we had with our room was that the showerhead did not work properly (low pressure) but we remedied that by just using the handheld showerhead which was fine. The patio had lovely patio furniture, not cheap plastic chairs which was a nice touch. Our bathroom door wouldn’t fully close but this was likely due to some shifting since being renovated and was quickly fixed by pushing a towel along the bottom. Bedding and towels were clean and fresh and the adjustable AC worked wonderfully. Tip: ask for an extra blanket if you are cold or a room facing the afternoon sun if you like the sun. Building F are superior rooms and most faced the sun. If you want to have afternoon sun, ask for a room facing the pool on the snack bar side. The real perk for this hotel on top of everything above was the beach. Although it was windy, the beach was so beautiful. If you are there and it is a bit windy or too choppy, take the bus to the second market near Dino’s restaurant and walk to the beach by the Royalton mystique. There’s a long stretch of beautiful beach there and because it faces differently it may be different. We did this one day and it was amazing. Got 2 drinks at Dinos which were incredible for $7.50 total. They also serve pizza but we just got drinks lol. Entertainment at night was SO fun. Because it’s a smaller resort you get to know people and Entertainment typically was live music, DJ songs, singing, and lots of dancing by the main bar. We also tried the salsa lessons which was fun! I’ve stayed at other places in my travels, but honestly had the most fun here. Lastly, I really encourage people who come to Cuba to bring some small things with them to give to the staff as they’re so appreciative. They loved the push lights from the dollar store with AA batteries, Tylenol/advil, bandaids, and hygiene products. Despite the lovely resorts Cuba people are struggling and can’t get what is so easy for us to get, so take a trip to the dollar store or pack up runners that you don’t need and leave them for the staff. One other thing I want to mention is that there are a couple of very adorable tame dogs that you’ll see walking around the resort or beach at times. These dogs are harmless and very content. I was so worried about them, not having water and food but was told by the staff that the hotel staff put water out for them as well as food and they get a lot of scraps-and that they are better there than in the streets. I’m glad the staff watches out for them <3. I was tempted to give this hotel a 4* because of the shower head and bathroom door issue but honestly the entire stay was so good that those small issues didn’t matter so I stuck with 5*. We will absolutely be back just like the many other repeat guests! Thank you to all of the staff at this resort.

Wonderful trip from a Solo travelers point of view

Naomi J on Jan 07, 2025

Resort is clean friendly and have all the comforts you would expect while on vacation. The pool is well maintained with a small bar to swim up to. Many chairs to sun bathe and relax. The entertainment team will keep you busy if that's your thing with poolside and beach activities throughout the day, along with nighttime entertainment as well. The buffet is also a good time. Fresh meats and fish cooked on the spot. A pasta station and pizza station. A beautiful assortment of breads and pastries along with a vegetarian section. Bars are well stocked and full of helpful staff. Great beach and well maintained. The spa is also lovely. There you will find the gym and on-site doctor. The lobby has a cute little shop where you'll find bottled alcohol, soda, cigars, and little things you may have forgotten to pack. All in all, I would return to this resort without question.

Very beautiful and friendly resort!

All the staff is very kind and the food is delicious! Beaches are unbeatable and the drinks are delicious. (They make great Miami Vices here!). Also the staff likes it when you bring them little trinkets and toys for their children, it’s very wholesome to give them some presents, so I recommend doing that as well!
