Overall, a pretty great time!

Brad M (Devon, Canada) on Dec 13, 2025

Just returned from a 10-day stay at SVB and overall we had a very enjoyable stay The buffet is well stocked and has two egg stations for breakfast, and fish/meat/pasta stations for lunch and dinner. A la cartes were all good, with the Mexican and Cuban being my favourites. The beach is fantastic (it's Varadero after all); the pool is on the smaller side and pretty shallow, but it gets the job done and has a swim-up bar. They do have activities at the beach in the morning and poolside in the afternoon, but the clientele (primarily French Canadian and Russian guests) seems to skew a bit older, so the atmosphere is a bit more relaxed. Definitely not a 'spring break' resort, but the entertainment team does their best to get people involved and having fun. We did the upgraded package, and while we did not see a lot of other value in it, in our opinion it was worth it to stay in the building closest to the beach, and furthest from the bar/pool area. The nightly show in the lobby, especially the live bands, is LOUD. The rooms are very clean, nicely appointed and up to date. Fridge restocked with water and beer daily. The A/C unit in our room was an absolute champ, too! The few minor issues we had were all related to communication. The QR codes on the tables lead to incomplete or blank menus at times. We were genuinely not sure what was available for us to order, especially where drinks were concerned. There also seemed to be some confusion over what exactly a few of the drinks were. In trying to order the same coffee-based drink at 3 different places, I received 2 different drinks, and one person who didn't know what I was trying to order at all. Printed drinks menus would go a long way to alleviating the frustration. Another thing not clearly communicated was how the a la cartes work. We had to line up at 9am on Monday to book our dinners for the whole week. We were also only given 4 reservations for our 10-day stay. And our included 'lobster dinner' was actually a seafood dinner where the lobster cost extra. Overall, we had a very enjoyable ten days. As always in Cuba, we come for the beautiful beaches and the friendly people. So with that in mind, here are some special Shout-Outs to everyone who made our stay great! *Mariel, Adis, Marinalba, and the omelet lady (whose name I never got!) at the buffet *Yanet, Yardiel, and Listher at the 24-hr bar and pool bar *Gredis Mary, Luis Angel, and Dayana at the lobby bar *Arelis in housekeeping *Ana, the Sunwing/Westjet/Nexus rep in the lobby

Our first time

Helen M on Dec 12, 2025

During our stay at the Sol Varadero Beach Hotel, we had a truly unforgettable few days as a family. From the very first moment, we were greeted with a smile and a warm welcome that made us feel right at home. The facilities are modern, spacious, and very well maintained, with areas designed for both relaxation and fun.

Mostly a positive stay. Love that beach!!

Jackie B (Miramichi, Canada) on Dec 09, 2025

Going to begin with the negatives first as there are many more positives. Obviously these are my opinions based on my experiences after spending 2 months in 2023 and 1 month in 2025 at this resort. I had notified Norleidys of Public Relation in September of my arrival in November on three separate occasions. After my arrival she was always willing to help me. She’s friendly and courteous. I arrived on November 6th. I was the only guest dropped off that evening. The bus driver left my luggage on the road not even on the sidewalk. There was no one at the entrance of the hotel to greet or assist me. I went to the lobby to get the cart and loaded my luggage. I was already in the lobby haft way to the service desk when the bellboy appeared. My assigned room smelled of cigarette smoke. The next day I asked to change and was assigned another room in the main building as many rooms in the superior building were not available due to the air conditioners not working. Phones and room safes should be checked and in working order before guests arrivals. We should not have to waste precious time to report them not working to have them repaired during our vacation. Working phones are a “safety feature “ especially for guests travelling solo. It would be reassuring knowing someone would answer that line (as this was not my case) and that there was a doctor available on the resort 24 hours for emergencies. Resort is definitely in need of new beach and pool loungers!! We missed the services provided by the beach guys. We can do without the vendors on the beach. I feel since this is an adult resort there should not be a supplement for people traveling solo. On the positives sides the resort is clean and well maintained. The grounds are beautifully kept. I heard the plane every morning around 6:30am spraying for insects. Came home after a month stay with very little mosquito bites. A real blessing. My room although very damp, was kept clean by my maid Julienne. I never ran out of bottle water, towels and toilet paper. Always hot water available for showers. The public washrooms were kept clean but most only had one stall available. The staff of the Lobby bar and Pool bar gave excellent service. The selections at the buffet was really good. The service and food at the “A La Cartes” were excellent. My favourites were International and Italian. I still enjoyed the Cuban and Mexican restaurants as I enjoy the variety. The two new walkways going to the beach are a welcoming site. So much easier to walk on and great for people with mobility issues. I truly enjoyed the repeaters breakfasts. It was a nice touch and it was done with class with great service. A definite plus!! Carlos the director was always very friendly, kind and approachable. He’s an asset to Sol Varadero Beach. A quality person!! My departure was a bit disappointing. I was in the lobby at 6:30am waiting for my bus pick up at 8:15. It would have been nice if a staff member would have offered me a coffee since I was alone with my luggage. Oh well… c’est la vie!!
