poor beds. mold, good restaurants

aplustc (California) on May 01, 2024

Old banana beds. If you get a room with 2 beds, they will be full sized and not queen sized. Mold in bathrooms. Door card keys often need reactivation. Tried 6 restaurants and all were good. Sometimes long wait for breakfast buffet and long wait to check-in. No pickleball courts and only 2 tennis courts for 3600 rooms! They had 2 catamarans to use (they didn't want to release the other 3) for the same 3600 rooms. Good luck. A few days we had strong wind which blew much of the sand off the beach and it was then hard as concrete. Restaurant reservations were very hard to come by and the restaurants were only 40-60% full as they don't release all the space. For the most part, the restaurants are very good. We have been here many times since the place was first built but this will be our last.

Nice beach & well kept property

Renu_Sav (Woodstock, Canada) on Apr 29, 2024

This is huge property right on nice beach , with lots of activities . We enjoyed swim with turtles, dolphin show , night shows, mini golf , cataramen ,hydrotherapy ,scuba diving & all other sports. As vegetarian we did not got much choice, got bored of eating at buffet. Also lot of employees at buffet don’t know English so language barrier. Tried 3 ala carte ; Mexican, Italian were good. Prices for the water activities were really high. Free ones were not available due to water needs to be flat. This is a great resort with great amenities, well kept ground

My first all inclusive experience

daveaY3695EL on Apr 29, 2024

What others have said here about the pros of Barcelo Maya Colonial are true. The beaches, pools are gorgeous, and there is something for everybody. It's almost like entering into a resort city with all the Barcelo complexes lined up here. The food is good, also something for everyone. Sometimes at the buffets, you needed to doctor the food to get to a personalized flavor profile, and the portions at Kyoto and the seafood restaurant were a bit lacking, but geez-- considering the masses of people they are feeding and plying with drink (yes, they are watered down, but whatever), and the quality of service with which they are doing that, it's a stunning triumph of logistics. I've been to Mexico probably a dozen times, traveling all over (DF, Pueblo, Cuernavaca, San Miguel de Allende, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Palenque, Tulum) and this was my first all-inclusive experience. I dug it! You are trading some cultural immersion for creature comforts, but what comforts they are....
