Avoid the top floors where the balconies have a plastic panel roof.
Matt J on Jan 31, 2026
The resort is beautiful and the people were very accommodating. We had a top floor room with a plastic balcony roof. It became loose above the slider door in the wind and kept us up all night. I reported it but response was very slow. I went to Fernando who they said was the manager. That was an aggravation. He didn’t respond in any helpful way. We had not slept all night and he offered nothing. We went to Monse, our savior, she arranged another room for us to get some rest but it was 4 pm by then and we lost a whole day. If it had not been for her it would have been no fun. We understand that nobody can stop the wind but the plastic panels are not adequate and they need to change to something more durable. There were several other panel failures. My wife called the repairman a roof ninja !

My husband and I returned to Playa Mujeres from January 20–27, 2026, this time bringing some friends along. It has been one of our favorite destinations in the Unlimited Vacation Club since 2013 and now part of Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection Portfolio. Knowing the resort had recently reopened after many months of work, we were eager to see the updates—and they did not disappoint. The biggest change was the addition of the preferred club area check-in, lounge, and pool area! Coming back truly feels like coming home. It was wonderful to be welcomed so warmly and to see some of the staff we now consider friends from our past visits, as well as the new ones we made this time which I would like to highlight. One of our favorite people we saw multiple times during our visit ( on purpose) was Zorayda, a waitress at Preferred breakfast, along with Oceana lunch. Zorayda’s smile alone can make your day, and her sincere, serving heart truly shows through her actions. Cowboy hats off to Manager Sonya, who we saw throughout the resort at Preferred breakfast, El Patio, and Oceana. She is attentive to guests and clearly supportive of her team, even during busy times. Other Preferred Club team members we would like to mention by name include: • Delmi, waitress • Felipe, bartender • Marcela, waitress • Edher at the Preferred pool • Jamie at the Preferred Club pool and beach. A couple of mornings at the Market Cafe set us up for another grand day with Felipe as our waiter, and wow the skills of the harp Player! Carlos, the chef at El Patio, also deserves recognition for his excellent cooking—especially the short ribs, which were outstanding. Artemio is wonderful! We had the opportunity to have him as a waiter twice up at Portifino. The 2nd time the restaurant was very crowded and busy and it was still the same consistent helpful service with a smile. It was great to see familiar faces, receive such attentive assistance, and experience once again the genuine hospitality that keeps us returning to Playa Mujeres year after year. Our friends who came with us thoroughly enjoyed their time and talked about the delicious food and outstanding service. You are doing a fantastic job UVC and Hyatt with updating the property, and providing a positive experience for your guests!
Amazing Resort with a Few Left Things to Tighten Up After Renovation

I should start by confessing that we are members, that this has been (still is) one of our favorite resorts and this January visit is our 5th time visiting here. What we love about this resort. The beach is AMAZING! It is large, expansive with fluffy soft sand. Sargassum was and has never been a problem at all. The service is top notch. Eye contact from everyone with an Hola!, Buenos dias! The staff all feel authentic. We love the restaurants with Oceania being our favorite. Of note the new Preferred Club is a fantastic. We ate breakfast there every morning and had a wonderful dinner. The new pool and cabanas are gorgeous! Things Not to Miss If your thinking of going to Isla Mujeres - go. Don't be concerned about taking the ferry. It is part of the experience. And there is often a musician/s on the way back in the evening entertaining local workers, kids, families as well as tourists all going back to the mainland after a long day. Take a golf cart. Its the best way to get around. Go a bit away from the ferry port to get better prices. The island is small with all aspects accessible in a day. We left the port and essentially made a big loop for a day trip. Visit the Mayan ruins at Punta Sur. Not ruins so much but the views are breathtaking. Take time to have lunch and a margarita at a local restaurant. We went to two and loved them both. I recommend finding one that intrigues you in the town then consider La Carbonera when your cruising around. We ended the visit at Playa Norte as the sun went down. Wonderful sunset! Some things not as good as usual The toilet in one of our rooms was broken multiple times. We did get service but it was a chronic issue and distraction. The food in the Market Cafe was cold. Went a couple of times and this was consistent. Hopefully gets worked out. Room service was abhorrently long at night. The spa at secrets was closed, not terrible but inconvenient. Having said that the staff at the Dreams spa were very good. Restaurants at Secrets were alternately open / closed throughout our visit. Not terrible but not as great as usual. While the drivers are an amazing part of the experience, the golf carts used to spirit folks around the resort were few and far between. This can always be an issue particular later at night but occurred more often than usual throughout our visit. Special Shout Outs Activities staff - you all make the experience exceptional!! Memo, Carlitos, Diego, Carlos Beach / Other Staff - so warm and helpful! Jaime, Alehandro, Jimena, Maru, Rodrigo, Suzana, David, Oscar, Minnie, Katia, Suzie I may have mixed up some of the names with categories but thank you all for making our stay an amazing experience!
Top notch service and food! Preferred is well worth it at this resort!

This resort was recently updated. With the update they added a new preferred club building, pool and restaurant. If anyone is wondering if preferred club is worth the extra money - we have decided we will never go anywhere without it again. Having a quieter, calmer, more relaxed place to lay by the pool is worth every penny alone! Jaime Lagunas was our pool concierge and did an amazing job making sure everyone at the preferred club pool was happy at all times. The wait staff at the pool and in the building was great as well, Maru, the waitress that attended to us at the pool the most, was also exceptional. Ki'ki Che', the preferred club restaurant also had a great breakfast menu and their 7 course dinner was absolutely amazing! We ate dinner at Ki'Ki Che' twice while here, Luis a young waiter we had both times, provided top notch service going above and beyond in service and knowledge about the food, adding to what was probably the best dining experience we have had at an all inclusive anywhere. The rooms were nice and the beach was beautiful!
Office views, but make it Mexico.

even though the resort was still finishing renovations (no spa on site, only at dreams, some things not complete) it was a lovely experience and I had a wonderful time. Note: there are 4 well placed smoking areas that aren't the worst to get over to. They also allowed us to smoke on the beach being mindful of others. It was a great time! The staff are very helpful. And the food is pretty good!
