10 year anniversary trip

Cattrippin on Jul 20, 2024

We chose this resort to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. First trip to Jamaica. Food - great ! I was very happy with the food options but bought snacks in the gift shop for in our room. We found the food to be very good but portion sizes were on the smaller side for us. Good selection of entree at all restaurants . Beach - fantastic! Beautiful and well kept. They clean and rake it every day. We took a walk everyday on the beach. Room- we were right on the beach by the bar. Perfect view of the ocean and the balcony was great. Room was large and bed was comfortable. Only bad thing was our room service request for breakfast and mini bar was not picked up for 2 days. Housekeeping did great with daily cleaning. Staff - Good. Some were friendlier than others but overall pleasant. Spa - we got a couples massage and I got a facial which was the best I've ever had !! Highly recommend. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely return !

Tired Resort

Passenger807106 (New York City, New York) on Jul 15, 2024

We returned to Couples Swept Away after our first trip in 2018 and were surprised at the condition of the resort. It is tired and in much need of repairs, sprucing up and upgrades. There were quite a few issues - The hot tub at the main pool had jets that worked on one side only. Patois was closed daily for breakfast and lunch, and some nights for dinner. Leaving the Palms the only option for a sit-down breakfast and lunch. The time we chose to eat at Scotch Bonnet they were out of most items. Beach towels were not available after 2pm by the main pool, we were told to go to the towel hut by water sports by the 3 employees hanging out at the towel hut. Drinking glasses were not available in the room. For a 5-star resort you expect better. Most of the staff were wonderful, kind and engaging. The grounds and beach are beautiful.

Black and overlooked!

T2stringer (Forney, Texas) on Jul 14, 2024

My husband and I researched and fell in love with the idea of spending our Anniversary at CSA. So last year we booked. First, I am not the kind looking for hidden discrimination. I love Jamaica and have travelled several times even as a single woman. The check in is where it started. We were overlooked until I had to speak up. The overlooking never ended. I felt overlooked and found myself having to say, "excuse me, I was next all the time." Which kept me on edge (opposite of vacation). This was at the beach bar and at the restaurant Patios. One morning I was walking past a worker who was performing maintenance outside on one of the buildings. I was smiling, he asked my why was I smiling in a way that just was not kind. I am not thin skinned or sensitive and being well travelled I have never felt like I wanted to end my trip like I did while visiting this place. The vegan restaurant and staff were great! Even had my husband eating there! The Palm Buffet was great as well. The Aquatics staff were friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Also, loved the massage class! I don't think I will revisit CSA. You don't get a second chance to make a first impression.

Not good

331douglash (Newbury, United Kingdom) on Jul 14, 2024

We saved all year and researched reviews and hotels We chose couples as it was a 5 star and looked beautiful Having stayed at a 5 Star resort the previous year in dom republic Couples was not even in the same league as this hotel, definitely not a 5 star more like a 3 star hotel Grounds need a lot of work doing to them as do the rooms Our room was supposedly an refurbished room,I would be asking for a refund from the people that done it We were there during the hurricane so understood that services would be limited during this time The manager Karen was amazing and always on hand for help Some staff were lovely other not so and need help with the attitude. Food was ok but I wouldn’t say amazing, breakfast was the only meal they got right. Beach is beautiful, plenty of sunbeds and shaded areas. Maid service for our room wasn’t the best,my wife made the bed more often than not. All in all a not very good holiday which was a shame considering the cost. Would definitely not return to this hotel

Our opinion

sadie u (Cambridge, United Kingdom) on Jul 13, 2024

This hotel was chosen with great care, we save hard all year to go away to somewhere special with a high rating. After going abroad for many years we feel we have a good understanding of ratings. This hotel is not a five star hotel, more like a high three to low four. The grounds are lovely although need more upkeep. The food was ok to good at times, and the choices were limited during our stay. The maid service by the main maid to our room was really good, other times dismal. The mini bar service was at time non existent even though i had asked at reception for the cards to tick and place on the handle, and also try to use the app which didnt work. A lot of the staff are really good some not! We did get the ants in our room at night which seems to be their wake time and also mosquitos outside our room. We were there during Hurricane Beryl, and the manager of the hotel was amazing, she kept us well informed, gave us extra water, towels and STILL provided us with food by keeping certain restaurants open during this difficult time. The manager Karen was onsite during the hurricane and everyday thereafter, making sure the guests were catered for and also clearing the hotel debris that occured. This is even when the staff were not sure if their families were ok. This is truly heartwarming and we were humbled with this, even offering to help with the clearup. I am talking pre hurricane now, i feel they need to widen their choices of food at the buffet restaurants, we talked to other UK people who had been their in Jan, and they noticed a massive difference with this, attitudes with some minimal staff needs improving. The beach is amazing, sunbeds lovely plentiful, yes the beach sellers can become annoying they are there everyday, but are kept at bay by the security, do not engage with the handshake unless you want to purchase anything, as a couple of them will make it appear they are giving you a free bracelet but trust me it is not! Just tell them politely NO THANK YOU, and they will leave you alone. The musicians are lovely and yes we tipped them, they are friendly and its lovely to hear the music. We felt the entertainment at night ended way too soon, unless you wanted to go to the piano bar, but we are not really karaoke singers, so ended up bk in the room early. We did one excursion (due to the others being cancelled because of the hurricane). This was the Jamwest ATV experience, this was a great day out and we would highly recommend. Hope this helps with making a decision.
