Costa Sur for Day of the Dead 2025
DeeDeeOwen on Nov 26, 2025
Was a really great experience. Stayed in the main tower Studio unit because our 1BR in the second tower had no WiFi in the room on floor 7. Apparently there is only WiFi on two floors in the second tower, maybe floors 2 and 3? Really cheap taxi ride to town. ~$5 taxi and ~$3 Uber. Great restaurant options downtown and very reasonable (MUCH better than Nuevo ValIarta resorts) loaded a bunch of cash on my Apple Pay wallett and used that to buy a lot of things, without incurring a line item on my Visa statement (which I have to enter into Quicken for my year-end taxes!). Good little shop for food and drinks that you want in your room. Restaurant much improved, with mucho better service! Good bar service for the pool. Jose is back overseeing activities! Great beach breakwater - people takiing infants into the Pacific Ocean. Overall, a spectacular week! Thank you Costa Sur! Right on the ocean view, every room! Unbelievable! Just missed our friends who could not travel. The matire d from a few years ago was gone; that was sad. Day of the Dead was AMAZING with the parede and the Katrinas on the Malacon. Can't miss! Loved this timeshare/area much better than Nuevo Vallarta. I think they rent to the public.
Staff is the best thing about this place! Common areas are also nice. The room we had (in south tower) was not.

Staff was helpful, friendly, professional. Common places were comfortable and clean. Food was mediocre. Drinks tasted watered down and margaritas (classic flavor) were bad premix. We stayed in the south tower, which needs an overhaul is really bad way. I don’t mind the dated look, but things feel funky/wet/worn. Sheets and such were clean. So if you are just crashing there and planning to be in the water all day, it’s a fine budget option.
BIZARRE, CONFUSING, AND RUN-AROUND RESERVATION "SYSTEM" PART 1 FOR COSTA SUR.

Let me preface with our background: After years of working in every hospitality position, in sports, hotel management, (Fairmont, Four Seasons, etc.) , tours and over 60 international trips... we started our own Resort Secret Shop company: we get paid to critique resorts. Contacted the hotel via e-mail, and ensured them we were NOT on a shop: after a few months of work, just wanted peace and quiet without nit-picking. No special treatment. We ALWAYS book directly with property, never a third party. After 3 e-mails (one Friday via the official website which bounced back, once Sat. to the reception e-mail, then finally a phone call Sun. directly to the hotel, only to be told reservations closed on Sunday. CAll back) Since no answer, I sent a "don't bother" e-mail,looking elsewhere, not expecting a reply. DID get an aploogetic e-maIl from Res. Mgr. a few days later. I said OK, gave benefit of the doubt,, and reserved via yet ANOTHER e-mail. Sweet Lord... the confusing options. Even for a long stay, rates all over the map. Join the club, get discounts. Come on certain days, get some off, but depends on whether week, weekend, a national holiday, 20% off if you do this, re-seller offers something different... For a 2 week stay in Nov, daily online rate varied from 2107 MX to 4216 MX per night. 3rd party re-sellers also all over the map. So, I call direct to the hotel. Rack rate over 4,000 MX. So on-line, I join the club and reserve 2 nights, just to see if we like it. Called 2 days before check-in to bokk on extra night before original check in. Arrive at the hotel: Confusion!!! Have to check in, then check out, then check in again. Different rates. Decided apart from this, hotel itself fairly good. More later. Decide to extend our stay beyond 3 days. More confusion. CAnnot to it today (Sunday) "OK, I ask, what if I walk in off the street and get a room?" Was shown rack rate of over $4000. MX. I said to Desk clerk, "but I can sit here in the lobby, and book on line for about half that." Was told, OK do so. So I did. went back to the desk. "OK, I've reserved. " "But you have to wait unti Monday, because reservations is closed." After some polite tete-a-tete, I got my key rened for the new date. Was midly pissed, but polite. I left a hand written note to the Res. Mgr., with my card, asking to speak with her when she comes back on Monday. Monday now fading into a glorious sunset... STILL no reply.
Awful service for members

I’m trying to call Luis Fernando, but he never answers the phone, and when he does, he’s rude and doesn’t solve anything. I’m doing this here to see if someone can help me resolve something. The place is amazing; I’ve been visiting it for many years, but with people like that, they turn it into a terrible place that makes me never want to come back again in my life.
Hot, rainy September stay. But it was a great stay.

This is most certainly not a luxury experience but the staff really made me feel safe as a split woman traveler. The wait staff, activities staff and everyone here is kind and makes you feel right at home. Food is affordable for the most part and good. The room was clean and the AC cranked out a cold room, thank goodness, as it was VERY humid and hot when I was there in September. The pool was a perfect temperature and clean. I got room service and stayed the whole time at the property and I was able to relax, be entertained and feel safe the entire 5 days I was there. It has timeshare people staying there but they absolutely never asked me to go to a meeting. The crowd is older, mostly retirees and some Mexican families. Not a place for exciting dance music or parties (which is what I like). It’s right in the water but the beach is rocky, so I kept to the pool. The workout room is small but well equipped. I recommend not going during the rainy season, as it was quite hot and humid and it rained every day. Oh also, the internet was fast and steady and the TV hooked seamlessly to my streaming accounts for Netflix and Disney+.
