Hotel rooms are excellent, only the shower in the bathroom is uncomfortable. The employees are attentive and helpful. I recommend it.
A Balanced Review of a Really Enjoyable Stay

I wanted to share my honest review of our experience at this hotel because I do think it gets a lot of negative reviews which are not very balanced and its a great hotel! Myself and my friend stayed here for 2 weeks in November. We booked with Tui. The hotel is about a 90 minute transfer from Punta Cana so be prepared - after a full day of travelling it honestly felt like we were never going to arrive! lol! The hotel is set on a large resort which has a golf course and private residences, the actual town of La Romana is around 30 minutes away so whilst you can rent a bike and explore the resort there really is very little around and you will have to travel further afield to experience anything outside, we did a few excusions with Tui to get out and about and there are shops etc on site if you need anything. We arrived late evening and check in was smooth, reception staff were friendly and helpful. We heard some people had been offered to upgrade to the adults only side (Luxury Bourganville) we werent offered this and later heard it was fully booked but to be honest we weren't that bothered. We were allocated room 3214, this block is directly opposite the lobby for the Bourganville so it can get noisy in the evening however for us we were not really in our room that much so it didnt bother us. Our room was on the first floor, it was a twin and had a balcony with garden view. The room was nice. I think some people have very high expectations when they see the hotel is 5 star but if you have travelled to the caribbean before you will know the standard is not the same as the UK. Our room was a bit tired but it was spacious clean and comfortable and perfect for the amount of time we spent in there. The only disappointing thing was that the turn down service was a bit hit and miss - sometimes towels missing and mini bar tea/coffee was not always fully restocked. The pool area is really nice and staff work hard to keep it clean and tidy. There are lots of sunbeds but unfortunely despite notices asking people not to reserve these lots of people did do this so seats round the main pool were sometimes hard to come by however always room on the beach and around the kids area. There are plenty of activties going on during the day if you want to get involved and no pressure if you don't. They are happy to play entertainment music loud but the couple of times we tried to play our own music we were asked to turn it off - hearing the same music constantly for 2 weeks does get a bit repetitive so perhaps something for the entertainment team to consider mixing things up a bit. The staff at the pool bar are excellent and always have a smile even when its super busy. The beach itself is lovely, clean and tidy and lots of shady sun beds available. There is a river which runs into the sea further up the coast and this can affect the colour of the water, its not the crystal blue you may expect to see and will be affected by the weather, the hotel staff have absolutely no control over this. When we were there it wasnt brown but also wasnt crystal clear and yes there are jelly fish but plenty of people were still swimming in it despite this. We didnt but to be honest are more pool people anyway so it didnt really bother us. We did a trip to Saona and Catalina where you can experience true caribbean blue seas and highly recommend those if beaches are your thing. We found the food to be excellent, we didnt eat in any of the a la carte restaurants as we dont really like to be tied down to a specific time - the food in the buffett was excellent, plenty of choice, breakfast was excellent and nights are themed so there is always something different and there are live stations where you can get your food cooked to order. Big shout out to our favourite waiter Oscar who always had a smile for us. Entertainment staff work hard to bring a program of evening entertainment but again this is repeated weekly so as we were there for 2 weeks it was just a bit repetitive. The only down side to this hotel is that in an evening you can only get drinks in the lobby area, the pool and beach bars are closed and last orders at the bar is 11pm. You can head to the casino if you are happy to spend money on gambling or to the club which is open until 2am but again this can very repetitive and not something you would want to do every day especially when a large proportion of the music played is bachata. I think this is potentially something the hotel need to look at just so there is a bit more variety. The Friday beach party breaks this up a bit but again if you are there for 2 weeks, the games and the fire show at the beach party just repeat. We did do one evening trip up to punta cana for a buggy adventure and cave party which was great. We took US dollars to spend and these are accepted everywhere, tipping is customary and appreciated by staff. In all, we had a great two-week stay and would definitely recommend this hotel. Lovely grounds, hardworking staff, good food and plenty of ways to relax or explore. A few tweaks could make it even better, but it absolutely deserves more credit than it gets.
