Give credit where credit is due!!

On line, this resort gets a lot of negative feedback so we were hesitant to book, but did so on just pictures and gut feelings. I am so glad we did. It was amazing! We were Premium guests so we were immediately met by a representative who carried us into a private lounge area and assigned us a butler, Lory. She was the best! She welcomed us with cocktails, explained the resort to us via a map and then got us registered with room numbers and wrist bands. We were then carried through the resort area via golf cart to our assigned building 23. (This is the building pictured). Our room was really spacious, very clean and all we could have asked for. We were ground floor so our patio was poolside. I have never seen a room with as much storage space as this room. There were closets, drawers and small cubbies everywhere. The bathroom was huge and equipped with all amenities. We also had a table with two chairs and a small love seat. And a big screen TV. Located at the end of the hallway was a Premium lounge, with bar and breakfast and lunch buffet. We never wanted for anything. The staff there is amazing and always so friendly and willing to help. A few kudos go to our housekeeper, NATALI! She was so polite and so accommodating with our time schedule. Always asked daily if we had everything we needed and kept an eye on the contents of our mini fridge. I would also like to mention the nightly bartender at the Premium lounge bar, Claribel. She was AMAZING! Over the top service and always smiling! Also Mary, the daytime bartender was so pleasant and looked after us always. In the Buffett area, Melvin was there to make sure we had a table and a server. And Radhames, who I think was a manager, was so friendly and accommodating in every way. They ALL made us feel as if we belonged there and we really didn't want to leave at the end of our stay. Lastly, I want to mention the nightly entertainment and the ala carte restaurants which were equally nice. The entertainment was nightly and we took in most of the shows but there were two outstanding shows and they were "QUEEN" and of course "Michael Jackson" Both were very upbeat and orchestrated very well BUT the QUEEN show was by far the BEST! As far as restaurants ......There is Italian, Mexican, Japanese! , On the Grill, and Tapas , all ala carte that, Lory, our butler, made reservations for us every night of the week. Beautiful views, great service and very entertaining. Especially MIGUEL our chef at the Japanese restaurant who really put on a show!! I honestly do believe we will return to this resort! You should too!

Repeat guests who won’t be returning again!

We are sorry to say that after a fantastic holiday last year we have returned this year to hotel from hell and this review comes while we are still on resort. We booked months in advance for the premium package through BA and emailed the hotel requesting ground floor rooms due to two of our party having disabilities and could not manage stairs at all, we were advised of our room numbers in advance and were grateful for this. On arrival we were informed that there were no rooms available despite me showing them the email and we had 2 rooms on the 2nd floor, after explaining that 2 of our party would be sleeping in the lobby in that case they magically produced a ground floor room (not premium) and would move us as soon as something was available. We were moved the next day so all was good we thought. Over a couple of days we found that this hotel is definitely overselling the premium package with various different facilities included so premium is no longer a luxury at this hotel and we’ve had better on basic packages at other hotels in the DR. Priority booking for restaurants is nonsense as there’s nothing available, the premium pool (and that’s another issue!) is packed solid and staff are run ragged and stressed leading to what could appear as rudeness to guests and poor service. The restaurants have declined, we’ve eaten at 4/5 of them and 2 of them the food was stone cold with up to an hour wait and no offer of a drink. Due to building works the premium reception has moved next the main reception which means there are no golf buggy’s available at premium, you can dial 0 from your room but this is no good if your key cards keep deactivating and there’s no phone in the diamond bar. After 1 week here, out of the blue, they closed the premium pool and swim up bar and located it in the quiet pool which on the first 2 days was absolutely disgusting however it is fair to say on day 3 it was a lot cleaner. We have been given 3 different timeframes as to how long it will be out of use for ranging from 1-6 weeks. This again has caused issues due to location and disabled access. To top it off, there are a large number of guests here who feel it’s appropriate to have boom boxes playing at the pool, on the beach, on balconies and in the premium lounge so there is no relaxed enjoyment as there is Latino music blaring everywhere, which is deterring other guests from using certain areas. We have requested intervention from management to be told they can’t do anything. We are pretty easy going people and had an amazing time here previously, always try to be friendly and join in but we, and many other Uk guests, are feeling ostracised at this resort. I could go on but I think I’ve said enough! We definitely won’t be returning to this resort

Avoid this hotel. All they care about is your money.

I had two days of stress before the trip even started. My friends arrived at the hotel one day before me and spent over 5 hours arguing at reception, even though the booking had been prepaid and we had sent an email to the hotel explaining that the booking was under my name, and I would be arriving the next day. We also sent messages through Booking.com, which were answered confirming everything was fine. But when they arrived, it was the opposite. They ignored the reservation number, charged them again for 3 nights, and only after hours of arguing did they let them check in. I had to spend half my working day on the phone with Booking trying to fix something that was clearly the hotel’s mistake. When I arrived the next day, they asked me to cancel the Booking reservation and pay a new rate directly at the hotel. Only after another 2 hours of arguing did they finally check the reservation code in their system and realised it matched. Only then they agreed to refund — but they didn’t even apologise. It felt like they were trying to get as much money out of us as possible. They gave us a room “upgrade” as a goodwill gesture, but the room had leaks, a strong mould smell, and the floor was soaking wet. Complete disaster. The food in the restaurants was poor, and to make things worse, staff made disrespectful comments at every corner, just because we’re Brazilian. A total lack of respect, especially towards women. Thank God on the third day we moved to the RIU Hotel, where we were treated with respect and professionalism from check-in to check-out. A completely different — and positive — experience.
