Amazing Resort. Clean, safe and staff were top notch

cayjo230 (Barrie, Canada) on Feb 08, 2025

We came here with our friends in Jan for a nice getaway from the snow. This place was amazing and I love how it is within a gated community. The resort was beautiful and very clean. our room was one of the updated ones and was very clean and modern. Staff were all very friendly and willing to help if we had an issue. Special thanks to Hector at the front concierge and Antolin at the Riviera pool bar who were awesome. A La Cartes were great and buffet was always good. The only negative thing that isn't even that bad was there wasn't a lot of Mexican options to eat. We've stayed in Riviera Maya before and the resort we were at had more Mexican food options ( at the pool side, buffet all the time and a la carte had more options as well. We love Mexican food and just wished they had more options here at the resort. Other then that this was a 10/10 and I highly recommend trying this place out. We will be back for sure, hopefully in May.

Choose another Resort

matsa438 on Feb 04, 2025

I have only one thing to write. Choose ANOTHER resort. This is what happened Tuesday 21 of January 02,00 AM. In the middle of the night we woke up with water flooding from the ceiling in our room 143 at the bottom floor in a four story building. Water all over the floor. The Employees did what they could. after 2 hours we went to bed again. In the evening around six it started to rain again and shortly after there came another waterfall from the ceiling. Then after a lot of contacts with the staff in front desk we became another room. But not in the same condition, smaller bed, no mirror etc. The rain flood in the room was most likely not the first time since we clearly saw moisture damage on the furniture and around the inspection hatch in the roof The room we had before, nr143 was given to new guest the next coming day, (all good until it rains again) Now I wanted some type of compensation for the lost night. I wrote my complaints to the hotel and to the office in Europe. Their answer was only excuses (that didn't help me and my lost night that I had spent at their hotel) and an offer to get a free upgrade IF I booked another stay at their hotel and booked thru them. Who thought that I was interested to stay with Catalonian Hotels again when there are so many other possibility's (Resorts) Off course they can't help the rainwater BUT it´s the Hotels responsibility to offer a stay in rooms where it doesn't rain from the ceiling in the entrance floor. And they really didn´t care because the gave the room to other guests and hoped it shouldn't rain. If something occurs/happens that is clearly and concrete wrong while you are a guest don't expect that Catalonian Maya Resort will take any responsibility. If my review is published and if an answer is written it will still be the same. An answer full of polite excuses but no responsibility for offering guests room with rain flooding. As I started choose another stay for your vacation.

Horrible trip horrible resort horrible food, horrible beach.

Flew with Air Transat to this hotel. Horrible experience horrible Air Transat representative at hotel. Completely unhelpful and rude. Resort was rundown furniture was old most items and rooms did not work including AC and fans. Request a double beds for my 21-year-old son and I and ended up with a king bed the first night on a late check-in very upsetting. Beaches were horrible and rocky. Beach shoes are a definite must. Pools were dirty. The only thing I can say is the entertainment staff for the absolute best. Lesley was by far my favorite, very, very friendly and helpful. Other than entertainment, I would not recommend this resort big disappointment.

A nice holiday

S1805 (York, United Kingdom) on Jan 30, 2025

My family and I have just returned from this resort, having spent two weeks there at the start of January 2025. Due to the time of year, the resort was quiet and did not feel overcrowded or too busy at any point during our vacation. We stayed in a Privilege Suite. We found the resort to be helpfully compact and you were able to move around the resort easily and without issues. That aside, there are very few lifts available around the resort. The positives for us were: - The clean and spacious pool areas and we welcomed the shallow pools for my 3-year-old who enjoyed splashing in the water. - We found most of the staff to be very helpful and welcoming (a small number of staff were, however, very rude!) and the reception team worked very hard and were always able to assist us. - The evening shows were mostly very good with a talented animation team, although the 9:30pm start does make it a late night for small children. There was a good range of shows and the evenings that a show isn’t on, there is either a pool or beach ‘party’. - The short walk to the nearby Marina was great – we did that walk several times and enjoyed looking at the dolphins and other animals at the Marina. There is also a range of cafes, restaurants, and shops there. We also hired a golf buggy, which was very reasonable, and enjoyed exploring the local area. - The beach, whilst quite rocky, was nice and the ability to hire a kayak from the hotel (free of charge) was a nice bonus for us. We did this several times during our stay and enjoyed it. - The spa is both a positive and a negative. The hydro-therapy pool area was lovely and very relaxing and the massage treatment I had was wonderful. However, you are only permitted 5 minutes in both the sauna and steam room and a member of staff escorts you around and tells you when to enter/exit the sauna and steam rooms (before sending you to the hydro-pool to relax). I felt being ushered around was unnecessary, particularly as so few guests are allowed in at once. It would have been nice to also have had some water available. The negatives for us were: - There is a lack of information provided in the rooms – nearly everything is via QR code. It would have been helpful to have had some resort information provided within the room and some further clarity/guidance on the restaurant booking situation. - The restaurant booking system is ridiculous. You must wake at 7am to log-on to the hotel app to try and reserve a table at any of the a la carte restaurants (no booking needed for the buffet). This was a source of frustration as often the app did not work or at 7am you were told everywhere was fully booked (despite restaurants almost being empty on an evening). - We found the buffet restaurant and snack bar very repetitive, and it was mostly the same every single day – little variation offered. On one occasion we were successful in booking the steakhouse / grill, and the meal was very poor (very fatty meats, not cooked as requested, poor service). We would not have dined there again should it have been available. - We found our room to be very tired and in need of updating. Bedside lamps were broken or badly damaged, no plugs were provided for the sinks, walls were badly marked and scuffed, TV did not work, and the sofa bed was very poor quality and unsuitable for sleeping on. We were very disappointed by the quality of the room, especially as it was sold as a ‘privilege suite’. - There was a lack of seating on an evening. Only a small number of bars have seats and there simply wasn’t enough seats for everyone who wanted one. We found several guests using sun loungers as additional seats on an evening. Whilst we wouldn’t return to this hotel, we have (in the main) enjoyed a nice and relaxing holiday at this resort and made some nice family memories.

This was my 7th time in Mexico, and, the small size made this a very enjoyable experience. I would recommend this resort

John A on Jan 27, 2025

The resort was nice and compact. Maybe 5 minutes from lobby to beach. The bed was amazingly soft and comfortable, never an issue with hot water unless after 7. The noise literally died at 10PM sharp. The entertainment was exceptional in the theatre. The beach, if you need lots of sand and walk into the water without water shoes, this is not the spot. However, with the barrier blocking the waves, there were lots of fish. I snorkeled 4 days, multiple times each day. Lots of fish to see and water never more than 6 feet deep, and mostly calm waters. Food at the buffet was excellent with lots to choose from. Our favorite servers were Mayoli and Arthuro, both closer to the back of the restaurant. A little tip goes a long ways. Ask for them. The A-la-carte restaurants required a reservation using an app. Absolutely ridiculous. try to get a reservation at a reasonable time. Don't even think about a group larger than 4. We succeeded one night for part of the group at the Grill, spoke with the manager who provided a table for the entire group. We were celebrating 2 birthdays, they brought out desserts with candles for the young ones celebrating. Our greeter, Yexemeria, our server Ivan and the manager Saul, certainly made our visit very enjoyable. The food was exceptional. I did see on the menu, "for exclusive members only", possible reason why we couldn't get a reservation. Two other people who need to be mentioned are Betty and Olivia, both were very helpful on several occasions. I did talk to their manager, whom I found polite, but somewhat cold and business like. The bartenders in the lobby bar need some work on customer service. Rather curt and unhelpful. Once, at the bar an individual asked for change of a 100 peso bill, they declined. When customer left, I understood, bank in an unfriendly tone. I never tipped them after that. Overall, the week at this resort was enjoyable and would give consideration to returning.
