Not impressed

AnnaMarie N (Anchorage, Alaska) on May 19, 2024

This is a beautiful resort. Rooms were great. The resort is very spead out and takes quite a while to get from one side to the other. They have golf cart type transportation but we found it very unreliable. The food was mediocre at best. Would definitely try somewhere else next time we head to Mexico

Disappointed

This resort was a honeymoon present to our son and his bride for their wedding gift. We paid for a beachfront honeymoon suite and they were given a regular room. It clearly states on their check in voucher beachfront honeymoon suite? We paid extra for this which was not received. I would like to hear from management why this happened and what they plan to do about the extra charges paid and not received.

Absolute luxury

anyamayhope on May 17, 2024

Just returned from 7 nights (6 days) at this wonderful resort and can only say that we were extremely happy with everything. We will return for longer next time. Other negative reviews have pointed out: - Beach defence rocks: not a big deal, we did not feel like we were missing out at all as we lounged on beach beds looking out at the sea - Sargassum/seaweed: again, not a big deal. spoilt nothing at all and I felt sorry for the poor staff assigned to clearing it all day every day starting at 6am. - Restaurant reservations: we went to visit our concierge on our first morning, she sorted us out reservations at every restaurant we wanted to visit - anywhere in the royale or casitas area we got at 6pm, if you want to visit a restaurant in the generations area, you do need to wait until 8:30 but that is only because generations is a family resort and they prioritise families with children who will need to be going to bed. We only went to one restaurant in generations and felt like we had plenty of choice in the other areas. This was our first visit to mexico and our first 5 star resort, we really did feel treated like royalty! Everyone smiled and said hello, all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, going out of their way to make sure we were having a great time. We especially loved that a lovely lady brought us drinks while we sat by the pool at fuentes, so we didn't even have to get up! Our hotel room was clean and high quality, the bed was extremely comfy and we had requested a quiet room during booking which was nice and out of the way of the evening excitement so we were never disturbed at night. We spent our time relaxing at the fuentes pool and wandering around feeding the numerous iguanas (only found in royale, not casitas) which were adorable! There is also an aligator by the Spot bar who we were able to feed on one of the days, an absolute treat! Just be aware cancun airport can be busy, we were stuck in a queue for security on landing for 2.5 hours. - Didn't affect us too badly, especially after we remembered we could read in the queue, but something to be aware of. This is a tipping hotel, as a UK resident, I'm not massively familiar with the concept so read up on tipping in mexico, turns out it's fairly accepted to tip everything, sometimes we forgot and never had any downsides, but it did seem to really improve people's days when we did so we tried to remember! The shuttles zipping around the resort were amazing and so helpful, it's not a long walk end to end, but in the blazing sun it's really nice to be able to sit down and be driven to your destination. Just flag a shuttle going in your direction and they call you to hop on, no need to wait at the stops! There was a wonderful, constant sea breeze which took the edge of the heat and whenever we were too hot, we could simply retreat to a beach bed and enjoy the breeze. We were not members and don't feel the need to become members, we had everything we needed, wanted and more. All in all, the reception staff were great - check in and check out were simple, the bar staff were great, happy to make custom drinks if you didn't know what you wanted, the cleaning and minibar staff were great - everything was high quality and consistent (one day I asked for more snacks in the minibar, the following day I had tons!), shuttles were great, concierge was great, spa was great (recommend the massages at casitas spa - omar is the best ;) ), iguanas were fantastic, alligator was fantastic, weird lemur things were cute, little ground crabs were cute, noisy happy birds were cute (and a little cheeky around lunchtime), weather was great, sea breeze was great, grounds were great, pool/beach beds were great. tldr: Book it. You won't regret it. Especially if you like iguanas.

10/10 Recommend!!

Lovely resort with diverse food options. Friendly and helpful staff throughout, and it’s nice that a few resorts are connected, so you can walk/run along the beach. Spas are wonderful; definitely check it out! Great aesthetics and staff were very professional. Fun evening activity options - karaoke was so much fun! Nice seating options on the beach to enjoy the water. Would recommend for solo travel, friends or couples!

EDR 18th Visit

sydhueytown (Auburn, Alabama) on May 13, 2024

Just spent 10 days in this paradise location. El Dorado Royale is one of our very favorite travel destinations. We are Exotic Members & the new benefits were great. Resort is making progress on some needed updates. Positives: Lomas transportation to resort was easy; smooth check-in; assigned room in requested area next to our friends; room was nice; housekeeping and turndown service consistent; morning room service was good (although sometimes 15-20 late); butlers were good; concierge was good; plenty of shuttles for getting around the resort; beach butler service was good; there were plenty of Bali Beds; and, for the most part the staff were awesome! The couples massages and facials were the best EVER! Culinary Theatre and Chef's Table were EXCELLENT! Our sincere thanks to Felipe (shuttle), Angela (waiter), Karen (Room Service), Sami and Vlad (Kick and Rincon), Ruth (Concierge), Chef Emanuel (Di Italia Casitas), Chef Jose Eduardo Barra Rodriquez (Fuentes), Jairo and Miguel (Di Italia Casitas), Sommeliers Edgar and Fabiola, Angel (Mixology) and sadly so many more who I failed to write down their names. Morning breakfast at Cocatol and Rincon was very good. La Cabana, Kick and Sante Fe were very good. Di Italia Villas and Di Italia Casita were outstanding. Negatives: Menu changes have decreased the dinner meal experiences at Jade, Kampi and La Isla and Rincon. The cutbacks were evident (however the food was adequate). The swim-up were cleaner than last year; but, due some updates. There do not seem to be as many groundskeepers and some of the Palm Trees are in need of trimming. The beach peddlers were bolder and took privileges that were reported to concierge. Lomas did not follow instructions for return to airport resulting in 2 transports for 2 people each instead of 1 transport for 4 people. Follow-me has some kinks to work out. I was not immediately given our resort credit certificates which created confusion. After 4 trips to lobby front desk, there was still confusion during checkout using our certificates and getting our member discounts on purchases. The positives greatly outweigh the negatives. We will be booking to return May 2025 (if they can get the Exotic website straightened out!).
