El Dorado Royale excellence.

Bob P on Feb 17, 2024

We thoroughly enjoyed El Dorado Royale. The only reason I gave it 4 out of five stars is because room lighting is very dark and the bathroom had no privacy. Water closet and shower have privacy doors, but when you come out of them you can see out side and people can see in if they happen to look. We like a little more privacy and other guests shared the same feelings with us. Great place to go and the staff was exceptional. Don't like to call room service for ice, but nine times out of 10 it arrives within 15 minutes. If you need something go to your concierge and it will be taken care of immediately. Can't wait to go back and even considering becoming a member. Food in the restaurants was exceptional and really enjoyed the Santa Fe Grill and Market Cafe for breakfast. Both Italian restaurants were very good but preferred Casitas. Kampai was also very good. Grilled octopus and everything else was excellent. Fuentes, you need to pay extra for, but well worth it. Very entertaining and extremely good food. We are seriously considering going back in the next 30 days.

It’s the staff that make this place great!

scottandjoyb (Parksville, Canada) on Feb 16, 2024

Just returned from our 15th stay, yes we love this place. There are many changes happening and a lot of frustrations with Members, but all in all we had a wonderful time as always. We felt the food had improved since our last visit, which was a pleasant surprise. The service is always amazing and still is. We like to make personal connections with the staff as we feel they are amazing people who work tirelessly 6 days a week, all year long. They truly care that you enjoy your vacation, remember faces and names from previous visits even with the thousands of visitors they receive. If you truly want the best service in Mexico then visit here and take a moment to get to know these amazingly kind people. We have many we want to thank! At Cocotals. - Manager extraordinaire Mauricio, this man leads by example and supports his staff in all things, Muchas Gracious! Our good friend Alejandro who cooks the best Omelettes and has the biggest smile, starts the days off perfectly. Also friends who are like family to us, Antonio, Celestino, Noe, Victor and the rest of the service crew, you make our vacation so wonderful, we love you! Serving at the many bars, some of the best include our good friend Caesar, this man deserves much praise, his kindness, and patience even under difficult circumstances is unmatched, we love you Amigo! Isac who has been at El dorado so long, we say he’s like part of the foundation, Gracious for the best Bahama mamas! Our very good friend Videl, we love you amigo, can’t wait to see you again, we are all so lucky to be served by all of these amazing people. If you are a Member you might be lucky enough to be assisted by Butlers Gustavo, Benji, or Johny. These men are the best and go above and beyond with the little things that make your vacation great. Muchas Gracious Amigos, we love you all. Serving at the pool or beach the amazing Isabel whom we have known for years, so happy to see you again. Also Angela at Fuentes pool for wonderful drink service with a beautiful smile, has been at the resort many years, both of these ladies are amazing, Gracious Amigas! We had many shuttle rides to dinners this time, and the best service ever in that regard. Muchas Gracious to you all for your assistance, and for the sometimes crazy fun rides. If you visit this resort please say Ola to these wonderful people and treat them with kindness and respect, as they deserve! As always so hard to leave this paradise, can’t wait to return.

Not Five Star

Sol B (Canada) on Feb 12, 2024

We recently returned from a 12-day vacation at the El Dorado Royal. This was our second visit, the first was about 5 years ago. Things had changed since our last visit. This is NOT A FIVE STAR LOCATION as advertised. Our room had many issues. The grout in the shower needed to be cleaned, the one reading lamp next to the bed did nor work, the light on the magnified mirror in the bathroom did not work, the cupboard doors did not close without banging them shut, they were out of alignment. There was no laundry bag or laundry list in our room, the light on the staircase going up to our room on the second floor did not work. Summing things up, the rooms are tired looking and can do with a bit of a refresh not forgetting this is supposed to be a 5-star location. We arrived at the resort after 5.00 pm. The person at the reception was not friendly, no smile or even a welcome salutation. The fact that the concierge office is closed after 4.00 pm, no information was given to us. We were simply given a map of the resort which required a magnifying glass to read. At the concierge office they will ask you to complete a form with your personal information. Decline this, as they will use it to sell you time-share, they are no different to guys at the airport trying to sell you something. As for the food, not 5 stars. Every meal that we had at the various restaurants they were out on some of the items listed on the menu. The positive is that all the servers at all the restaurants were very polite and friendly. The buffets at the various restaurants where not well monitored, there was always empty items and some not topped up, leaving you to “scrape the bottom of barrel”. At the pool there were no cabana boys/girls to help with setting up chairs or assisting with umbrellas if you were lucky enough to find one. Most guests took their pool towels to their rooms, as one had difficulty finding towels at the towel box during the day. We were surprised by the condition of the beach chairs at the KICK Bar. These chairs are so bad that one can feel the frame protruding under your back making them very uncomfortable to sit or lay on. These need to be replaced. The gardens and grounds are very pretty and well looked after, I would downgrade this location to a 3-Star resort. I do invite the management to challenge my comments above and prove which of my reviews are inaccurate.

Swim up room info

ellebeehome (Southport, United Kingdom) on Feb 11, 2024

Expensive resort style hotel with absolutely stunning grounds and charming helpful staff. We stayed for a fortnight and had swim up rooms of which there are many around the hotel. Some of these are better than others as the pool or lazy river does vary in width, quality and depth. The first rooms we had the swim up never seemed to be cleared of debris and given it was fairly windy this needed to be done daily . They did have good sun area but the rooms themselves were tired. After 3 days we were offered different rooms where the swim up pool was wider, relieved of its debris daily and seemed cleaner. This was near the health bar and on the main walkway opposite the sea. This would have been great but February was windy and cloudy although warm but the pool was a bit chilly when the sun left the area by lunchtime and blocked by the many palm trees . Also the sun beds sit on like a shallow water shelf in the pool. It’s not really possible to lie on the beds without the lounger sinking into the water. Appreciate this may be great when it’s mega hot but it wasn’t for us. These rooms were very slightly better but from our experience the 6 rooms we saw were all similar, very dated and definitely not 5 star quality or price tag. The beach has been completely ruined unless you think looking at concrete blocks in sea is attractive. There are however plenty sun beds and cabanas on beach. The pools are good, some lively, some chilled and the entertainment staff work hard and there’s always something on if you wish to partake. Location wise it’s about 35mins from Cancun airport and about 30 mins drive from Playa Del Carmen although Playa Morelos is about 15 mins drive. The restaurants can’t be booked til you arrive and there is not really anywhere poolside that you may be able to get snacks or ice creams. Food was generally very good although not always hot and sometimes the portions small but you can always ask for more. To sum up it’s a good hotel with fantastic friendly staff but there is definitely room for improvement if it’s charging high prices and not delivering the quality 5 staff customers are paying for.

Getting back to the usual great service!

qli_travel (North Dakota) on Feb 08, 2024

Our experience here this year was so much better than last year! Our butlers Rene and Andres (Drew) were fantastic! It was a little annoying that so many people are bringing outdoor speakers and blasting their music outside. We like to listen to the birds and have some peace and quiet on our patio. But the staff are wonderful! and no seaweed this year! A cold front came through, and it was cool and cloudy for several o the days. Don't think we will go in January again.
