Nothing good to say

An utterly soulless hotel with Inedible food,. I can usually find something positive to write but this review is an exception. We arrived late in the day for a one night stay after a cancelled flight and after a five hour delay at the airport did not think to ask about checkout time so when I asked for a late checkout at noon next morning I was told checkout was eleven am and I was charged for over staying, quoting the assistance front office manager’ I am unable to help’. No sorry…, no unfortunately.. no effort to help a guest. . End of story. Oh and if you do book be sure to ask for checkout time.

3rd time staying here. will be back food and drinks are good staff is friendly and accommodating . water is a bit rough but views are amazing

Will never return!

I have stayed on almost every Caribbean island with many different resort lines (Sandals, Rui, Melia, Occidental and Barcelo) and I have never encountered such poor service and food. This resort was so bad that if Sonesta has any other resorts I would not stay there. The ride to the resort from the airport is about 5 minutes. It's so close I could see the end of the runway from my terrace. There is very little plane noise though. Check in was smooth and quick. The rooms are fine and beds are comfortable. The housekeeping staff is great! Our room was cleaned spotlessly everyday and the minibar was restocked. And that is the end of saying pretty much anything good about this resort. The pool was small for the size of the resort and the pool bar was severely understaffed. The bartender did his best but was alone. I only had 1 drink a day at this bar and waited at least 20 to 30 minutes each time. The food in every restaurant was just ok, it filled your tummy is about all I can say. We ate in every restaurant, including the pizza place and the grill by the pool and none of it was very good. We had 7 people in our group (2 very young children, their parents, grandma and 2 aunts) and were told at every restaurant that we could not sit together because the tables only seat 4. We asked if we could put them together and were always told no. This is a family resort and we were a family, but we couldn't eat together at the same table? That is ridiculous! At the buffet you cannot serve yourself. I'm guessing that is to keep germs down. While I get it, this really SLOWS things down and most of the staff acted as if I was bothering them. Not a nice feeling. The woman making omelets was GREAT! She was warm, friendly and inviting. You should have her train the rest of your staff. I was also surprised at how little there was to do; not many daytime activities and really no nighttime ones either. I did do pool aerobics everyday and she was also great! The quality of food needs to be greatly improved and your staff really needs better training in customer service and attitudes.

Highly recommend this resort!

Came here over 11 yrs ago. The. Now. It’s like day and night! This hotel is so well run!! Very clean facilities, wonderful service. I wd highly recommend this resort hotel. Thank you Sharon and Anna and your teams. I wd be back every year!

Amazing Experience

I cannot believe that there are negative reviews of this place. I have been to many all inclusive resorts and this one by far exceeds expectations. The food was incredible and Sharon made many stops at our table to ask how our day was and how the food tasted. We were a group of four with different tastes and not a single member of our group complained, in fact we always talked about how good it was. No need for reservations at the a la carts and service was always friendly and fast. I appreciated the high level of sanitary standards they have. Always ensuring that guests use sanitizer before entering and staff serve all food, even at the buffet. I would say that my only complaint was the lack of beach but we came to understand that it was eroded from a hurricane a few years ago. The resort did their best to recreate a section with loungers and sand but I was missing sitting on the actual beach. You could walk down there and walk to where the planes are but there is no chairs and we had towels down and the water came up high. This wouldn't deter me from coming again but it is something to note. Having said this we had an absolute blast by the pool! Always something happening and I highly recommend doing any activity with Gypsy. We did the aquabics and pilates and her energy is incredible. I didn't catch the other names but the staff was so engaging and kept the crowd entertained. Pool bingo, trivia and even live music! Raphael at the concierge took good care of us and was such a welcoming face when we arrived. Please don't listen to the bad reviews and stay at the Sonesta, you won't be disappointed.
