Sonesta-Maho

The location is great in that it is located near the airport. Overall, we were satisfied with our stay but I would like to point out a few things that needs improvement. The rules regarding the smoking to include marijuana should be more stringently enforced. We would have like to have seen at least a small business area for guest use. The shower did leak onto the floor at each use. The first few days room service lacked but it had improved by the time we left. Our refrigerator was restocked daily. It is true you have to get to the pool early if you wanted a seat by the pool. However, we would always able to find a place to lounge each day. We primarily ate at the buffet. Richard, waiter, was great!! My husband has gluten sensitivity and we were connected with Sharon. She ensured daily that his dietary needs were met. We can't say enough good about these two. We only ate at two of the other restaurants which we found that the menu was very limited. THANK YOU SHARON AND RICHARD FOR EVERYTHING AND MAKING US FEEL WELCOMED.

Good, Bad, Indifferent

NorthDublinIreland on Mar 30, 2026

The Good: -Italian restaurant, Mexican restaurant, Village Tavern, Napoli Pizzeria, Oasis Snack Shack, Johnny cake, Guava berry mousse dessert - SXM draft beer, manufactured in Sint Maarten -Resort location 5 minutes from airport -Watching the planes- size, shape, airline -Activities- yoga ,water aerobics, meditation, morning walk -Mike Price juggling show -Visit to Dutch capital of Phillipsburg -Outstanding employees- Mike-Napoli Pizzeria, John- Oasis Snack Shack, Carmelita-Italian restaurant, Jenny-Buffet restaurant, Eugene- Sports/Activities The Indifferent: -The buffet for lunch and dinner was weak -I was not able to get a glazed donut, sugar donut every day -Walking to a different beach off resort, Mullet Beach, 10 minute walk, a treacherous path. I slipped in mud and fell on my back and right side. A group of fine people from the Netherlands helped me up. I was caked in one inch of mud on my back and right side. I bruised a rib. Could have been worse. The Bad: -Cigarette smoking everywhere on property. Unacceptable. There should be a designated area. If there were designated areas, it was not enforced. -A guest had a bowel movement in one of the swimming pools. Pool closed and shocked. Gross! Perpetrator removed from the premises immediately by security. -Cockroach in the hotel room on two different days. Yikes! That cant happen! We were relocated to another room on the second day within 20 minutes. -I did not let this derail me. Perfect weather, 80 degrees F, slight trade wind, no humidity. Sunlight on my face. The warm turquoise ocean waters of the Caribbean Sea.

Choose a better place to stay

The service is sub par, the food isn’t that great, and security is extremely rude. They definitely know how to runaway good clientele.

the front desk are unwelcome !

tetianam136 (Ukraine) on Mar 27, 2026

My husband and I recently stayed at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort, and unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. From the moment we arrived, the reception staff made us feel unwelcome, as though we were inconveniencing them rather than being valued guests. The level of service throughout our stay was consistently poor and did not meet expectations for a resort of this price range. The property itself feels worn, overcrowded, and lacking the refinement one would expect. One of the most frustrating aspects was the sale of day passes, which resulted in an excessive number of visitors. As full-paying guests, we found it nearly impossible to enjoy the pool or common areas due to the crowds. The food was average at best, but the most disappointing element remained the service—particularly at the front desk. Hospitality and professionalism were clearly lacking, and there is significant room for improvement in how guests are treated. Given the cost, this experience was simply not worth it. There are many other resorts on the island that offer far better service, comfort, and overall value. I would not recommend staying here.
