Not what I am used to in a Fairmont Hotel

There was a really long wait to check-in. Maybe because people came in on the same flight to attend a conference. The carpets in the room were really stained (pretty much everywhere). They definitely need to be replaced. Other than that the room was clean, beds were comfortable. Staff were very friendly. Not much choice for room service.
Comfortable stay in central Winnipeg

We stayed on the gold floor and had a great corner room. The room was spacious and comfortable with all the usual Fairmont amenities. The club room was very comfortable. And served a more than adequate breakfast with eggs, sausage and bacon, avocado, fruits and cereals, oatmeal and bagels toast and croissants. The staff at the club room were beyond amazing. The hotel is in walking distance to the Canadian Human Rights Museum, and The Forks, as well as downtown Winnipeg. The overall experience was good.
Short staffed, better luck next time.

This past weekend was not the best example of Fairmont quality. Guaranteed check in was late by over two hours, due to accommodating a late check out of another group. Spent money in their lounge before and after the event we had to go to. Only to receive the next day in the evening free complimentary drinks that we could not use on Sunday because they closed the lounge from 12noon to 5pm on a weekend!? Covering the free breakfast was nice, only after I had to insist at checkout that that was provided by the staff member we check in with on Friday night. I guess the Winnipeg Fairmount must be short staffed... Better off staying at a Holiday Inn Express.
If it weren't for the staff it would be a 1

A very tired property. Our 1st night I couldn't open the door without shoving the door with a shoulder body slam. Paint was peeling. Carpet coming up. Remote control did not work. They brought a new one and still didn't work. Staff was very understanding and changed our room the next morning. That room was better but still tired. Bar stools in lounge were peeling. But staff was lovely. They truly make this property rise above it's tired old self.

This hotel is extremely dated and the rooms are in a huge need of remodeling. The HVAC system is questionable at best. The staff was apologetic but unfortunately could not do anything as the conditions of the hotel are outside anything they could be responsible for.
