Royal Hawaiian not worth it
Michael R on Mar 01, 2026
My wife and I have stayed here many times dating back to 2003. Today we checked in and received an upgrade. That was nice but this hotel has no coffee in the room and it does not offer room service. Their cost savings has now made us think this is no longer a luxury hotel it’s not worth the money if you can’t get up relax and have a cup of coffee.
Glorious hotel - avoid the third floor historic wing

I will be back after the grand reopening of The Pink Palace in 2027. We stayed 4 nights Feb 2026. This hotel is luxurious, accommodating, a bit dated, and historical. The grounds are true Hawai’i/not a concrete jungle. The spa was incredible. Oh, I have to mention: it’s haunted. We stayed in room 325, historical bldg.. On Sat evening, our TV turned itself on; the remote was 5 feet away from each of us. Then we heard teen girls running, crying, laughing down the hall. We opened our door to talk to them. They said something was happening in their room. Meanwhile a maid was hurrying past us. We all attempted to speak to her but she avoided us, rushing away, avoiding eye contact; she was scared. My teen daughter then googled “ haunted” hotel; we now know aren’t crazy. I tried to discreetly talk to the manager about this; he gaslighted me. Hence this post. We loved the beach ( rent chairs online in advance), restaurants, the staff- everything about this hotel is amazing- avoid the third floor, though.
Great location, 4 star experience (not 5).

Great location in the heart of things yet slightly secluded from the waikiki bustle. The building is old but beautiful. Rooms are a bit dated, but fine, and some small disappointments like no room service. Food at the sole restaurant meets expectations - excellent fish-melt sand-which. Overall, solid. Just slightly disappointed because it was advertised as a 5 star (and closer to 5 star price) and it was not. It’s a 4 star experience; no more no less!
Love this hotel!

We’ve been staying at the Royal Hawaiian for 15+ years during spring break and realize we never left a review. We love this hotel, the staff is wonderful and it’s small and doesn’t feel crowded like the rest of Waikiki can. It’s a great spot to ‘have it all’ - your own quieter and nicer hotel but also be steps from whatever else you might want. We always stay in the historic wing and we’ve been very happy with it.
A Tranquil Gem

Always stay at The Royal Hawaiian when I am in Honolulu for our annual convention. The RH is the perfect mix for me: next to the beach, secured from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki, yet accessible to all that Waikiki has to offer. In advance of it celebrating its centenary anniversary, all rooms in the tower and in the heritage building will be updated. The update starts in August 2026 and will run through at least February 2027. The tower rooms will be 100% updated, the heritage rooms 80% (everything but the bathrooms). I look forward to seeing how they bring this beauty into the next century.
