Change and cancellation policy
We have relaxed our change and cancellation policies to make it easier to manage travel impacted by COVID-19. Please read the following to see which policy applies to you.
Flexible change or cancellation
There’s no fee to change or cancel flights booked before February 28, 2021.
The full value of your cancelled flight will be credited to a Travel Bank, valid for 24 months from the date of issue.
WestJet Vacation packages booked prior to August 4, 2020 can be cancelled with the value credited as WestJet dollars, valid for 24 months; some restrictions apply. For bookings after August 4, protect your vacation with the Travel Protection Plan. To request cancellation of a WestJet Vacations package, please contact us directly.
If you booked through a Travel Agent (online or directly), Corporate Travel arranger, or another airline, please contact them directly.
Change/cancel policies for travel affected by COVID-19
Change/cancel policy for flights booked Mar 3, 2020 – Feb 28, 2021
You can book a new flight with confidence. If COVID-19 affects your travel plan you can adjust with the following flexible change/cancel policy:
- All flights booked between March 3, 2020 and February 28, 2021 will be allowed a $0 one-time fee waiver for changes or cancellations
- Change or cancellation must be requested more than 24 hours from departure
- Value of cancelled flights will be returned as a Travel Bank credit, valid for 24 months from the date your flight was cancelled
- If you change your flight, the difference in fare applies. If the new fare is less, the difference will be returned as a Travel Bank credit
- For changes or cancellations within 24 hours of travel, standard change and cancel fee rules apply.
If you booked through a Travel Agent (online or directly), Corporate Travel arranger, or another airline, please contact them directly.
Change/cancel policy for flights booked before Mar 3, 2020
For flights booked before March 3, 2020 for travel any time:
- $0 one-time fee waiver for changes or cancellations
- Change or cancellation must be requested at least 2 hours prior to departure
- Value of cancelled flights will be returned as a credit to your Travel Bank, valid for 24 months from the date your flight was cancelled
- If you change your flight, the difference in fare applies. If the new fare is less, the difference will be returned as a Travel Bank credit
- For changes or cancellations within 2 hours of travel, standard change and cancel fee rules apply

Travel Protection Plan for WestJet Vacations booked after August 4, 2020
Protect your travel plans for $49 per person when you book vacation packages or land-only bookings to destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean.
One-time Change Fee Waived
Changes to departure dates, destinations, room categories or occupancy can be made up until 3 days before departure, subject to hotel and flight availability.
- If you change your vacation to a higher-priced vacation package or land-only booking, you will need to pay the additional amount. If your new package is lower in price, the difference in price will be forfeited.
Cancellation Fee Waived
Cancellations made 25 days or more before departure on vacation packages or before the first hotel's check-in on land-only bookings, will be refunded to the original form of payment.
Cancellations made 24 - 21 days before departure on vacation packages or before the first hotel's check-in on land-only bookings, will result in a 50% refund to original form of payment and 50% refund to WestJet dollars.
Cancellations made 20 days to 24 hours before departure on vacation packages or before the first hotel's check-in on land-only bookings, will result in 100% refund to WestJet dollars.
No refunds or WestJet dollar credits for bookings cancelled less than 24 hours before departure.
One-time Name Change Fee Waived
Name changes can be made up until 7 days before departure.
Hurricane and Tropical Storm Protection
If a hurricane or tropical storm travel advisory is issued for your origin or destination on your travel dates, you may change or cancel your reservation at any time before the first scheduled flight and no fees will be charged.

- Offer is subject to change without notice
- The Travel Protection Plan fee is non-refundable
- The Travel Protection Plan fee is not required for infants under 2
- Only applicable to new bookings made after August 4, 2020, for travel after August 5, 2020, excluding December 19 to January 7
- Plan is not applicable to group bookings, Sandals, Beaches and Grand Pineapple Beach Resorts.
- The Plan is not applicable to Canada, USA, Hawaii, UK and European destinations
- In the event of a cancellation, WestJet dollars issued can only be applied towards a new vacation package after a 15-day waiting period
Change/cancel policy for WestJet Vacations booked prior to March 3, 2020
For vacation packages booked prior to March 3rd for travel through January 4, 2021:
- $0 one-time fee waiver for changes or cancellations
- Change or cancel up to 24 hours from departure
- Value of cancelled vacations will be returned in the form of WestJet Dollars, valid for 24 months from the date your vacation was cancelled
- If you change your vacation, the difference in price will apply if the new package is higher value

Change/cancel policy for WestJet Vacations booked Mar 3-July 31, 2020
For vacation packages booked between March 3 – July 31, 2020:
- $0 one-time fee waiver for changes or cancellations
- Change or cancel up to 24 hours from departure
- Value of cancelled vacations will be returned in the form of WestJet Dollars, valid for 24 months from the date your vacation was cancelled
- If you change your vacation, the difference in price will apply if the new package is higher value

Change/cancel policies for 737 MAX bookings
While we are 100 per cent confident in the safety of the 737 MAX aircraft, we understand that not all guests have the same comfort level, and we will be providing flexibility to change and cancel bookings. If your itinerary states that you are booked on a flight served by our 737 MAX and you would like to make a change to your current booking, you have the following options outlined below. 737 MAX flexible change/cancel policy applicable until February 28, 2021.

You are more than 24 hours from departure
Rebook on the next available flight, or to a flight within a 24-hour period before or after your original departure time, in the same cabin, at no additional cost. To make this change, please call 1-888-WESTJET (1-888-937-8538)
Rebook on another flight outside the 24-hour period before or after your original departure time and have the change/cancel fee waived. Any difference in fare will apply. You can complete this change online up until 24 hours prior to your flight by signing into Manage Trips.
Cancel your flight to receive a travel credit. You can complete this change online up until 24 hours prior to your flight by signing into Manage Trips.
