Resort with horrible customer service and infrastructure in serious decline.

We are World of Hyatt and Unlimited Vacation Club members and have been to many of their resorts. Sunscape Curacao was a terrible resort to visit. The customer service was awful. The staff was rude and most of the time annoyed at having to do their jobs. There was a leak above our shower and they never addressed it. We have to shower, while dirty water from the ceiling leaked on us. Their were very few options and the food quality was terrible. We tried to order room service and it just rang and rang. Another family staying there had no hot water for the entire week.
Terrible customer service and dishonest representation

Don’t be tricked into paying extra for an ocean view! This was the “view” from our Sun Club Ocean View room. When I shared with the front desk manager that the room had only the slightest view of the ocean in the distance, he was rude and dismissive and indicated that the room was labeled as an ocean view. I invited him to the room to see for himself, and he refused to leave the front desk. He shared that they do not “assign” rooms for guests, and that they would place a note on my door the next morning if another room were available. No note was posted, and the resort never offered to refund or offer remuneration for the difference in price.
If you think Applebee’s has great food and you don’t care about cold showers you may think it’s fine. Beach is nice.

The beach is beautiful and has plenty of shade from nice trees. The food is just not good (even with very low expectations). We didn’t have a single warm shower, the sink wouldn’t drain properly, the balcony rail was rusting. The staff didn’t attempt fix the bathroom problems. The spa is nice as were the massage therapists. The rooms are in serious need of updates and the food is just bad. It is close to Willemstad so you may be happy if you’re willing to take cold showers and eat off property if the beach is your main priority.

I have stayed at many all-inclusive resorts throughout the Caribbean, in different countries and across a wide range of budgets, from very affordable to truly luxurious. Without any doubt, this has been the worst of them all, even when compared to the most basic resorts. The infrastructure is clearly neglected. It is obvious that no major renovation or deep restoration has been done in years. At best, they perform superficial maintenance such as painting doors or walls, without addressing the overall deterioration. The result is an environment that feels old, worn out, and uninviting. The food and dining experience are simply the worst part of the hotel. The buffet offers almost the exact same food every single day, with no real variety or rotation. The themed restaurants are very few and have extremely limited menus, usually offering only a few options, and often one of them is already unavailable. There are also periods during the day when there is absolutely nothing to eat, and after 10:00 p.m. it is practically impossible to find food. Unlike other resorts, once items run out, they are not replenished. The restaurant system is terrible: there is no online reservation system like in other hotels. Instead, you must sign up in person upon arrival, which can result in waiting up to two hours outside the restaurant being attentive to when your room number is shouted, just to eat something very limited. The overall food quality is very poor, desserts are terrible, all the same cake with just a different color, which are frankly bad. The attitude of the restaurant staff is another major negative. In several cases, it actually feels uncomfortable to ask for anything; the service is unfriendly and sometimes borderline hostile. There are a few exceptions of kind and attentive staff, but they are exactly that—exceptions. The only truly positive aspect of the hotel is the entertainment staff, who are committed, energetic, and consistently friendly. They do their job as the rest of the hotel staff should. Upon arrival, the Wi-Fi was not working properly: it was very slow and constantly disconnected. After three complaints, they finally carried out a major effiecient fix and left it working at a good speed. Still, it is clear that without insisting, it likely would not have been repaired. The beach looks nice, but the sand is very poor—mostly rock (possibly something typical of the island). In general, the best beaches are not where the hotels are located, and while the sand is not great, they are beautiful thanks to the crystal-clear, turquoise water. For snorkeling, the island is excellent—probably the best part of the destination. One positive feature is the hotel’s lagoon-style beach, which is very pleasant for swimming. However, it is not a natural, paradisiacal setting: the beach ends at a wall and is surrounded by old, deteriorated infrastructure. You really have to make an effort to ignore the surroundings in order to enjoy it. If snorkeling is your priority, this island can be a good choice. If you are looking for truly paradisiacal beaches, I would recommend another hotel or even another island altogether, such as Aruba. Regarding the Sun Club, at first it does not seem to offer many benefits, but the private VIP pool is worth it for the added tranquility. That said, the hotel should manage the loungers and palapas better: many guests “reserve” them for their entire stay. By 6:00 a.m., it was already impossible to find an available palapa, even before sunrise. I chose this hotel because there are very few all-inclusive options on the island. I will definitely not return. If the sole purpose of your trip is snorkeling and participating in the entertainment staff’s activities and drinking, may be you can consider this hotel. If not, stay away from it.
