A Good Experience at Cornwall Beach
starch0ice (Edmonton, Canada) on Nov 26, 2024
Check-in was a breeze. There is always staff at the main reception desk ready to help. While checking in, I was asked if I wanted a drink and I was brought a Red Stripe beer in a can - a very nice welcome drink. Everything is explained at check-in and there are no additional fees or deposits to worry about except if you are unlucky enough to lose your hotel key or all-inclusive wristband. The hotel still uses the antiquated physical key system and will charge you $100 if you lose it. It is definitely time to upgrade to a key card system. The hotel is very nice. All rooms are oceanview. As with most resorts, you are not given a choice of bedding configuration and we ended up with two double beds and would have preferred a king. The property shares operations with Decameron Montego Bay. There is a lot of back and forth walking if you want to experience the amenities of both locations. The main entertainment is always at the Montego Bay location. Each property has a pre-show as well and the pre-shows at the Montego Bay location provide some really good entertainment such as singers and violinists. While there is your usual events board, it is never mentioned at which precise location the event takes place. Cornwall beach definitely has the nicer beach area. The Montego Bay location has the swim-up bar. You may not want to go there unless you like music blasting in your ear and the music is not pleasant. Despite the swim-up bar not being busy on the day we were there, the bar staff was engaged in some game with the patrons instead of paying attention to the few patrons looking to get a drink. I was not impressed with the entertainment staff. Despite events and games being posted, it is just a guess if they actually happen at the specified time or whether they happen at all. I am surprised that management does not seem to supervise the entertainment staff. The beach area is very nice and totally swimmable. You can also get a complimentary kayak rental. The Cornwall Beach hotel is overall nicer and newer than the Montego Bay sister property but then again you get a nice mixture between the two. The bar service at the lobby bar is much better at Montego Bay with a better selection of drinks. I would say that overall, you won't be disappointed with this property. There is a nice selection of buffet food at both properties. Each has its own a-la-carte restaurant. The Cornwall Beach a-la-carte restaurant doubles as the snack bar for burgers and such in the afternoon and late night. There is a disco for those still going strong after 11:00 pm and it is located at the far end of the Montego Beach property. The hotel is very close to the airport and definitely a good choice for a Montego Bay hotel.
Low key nice enough budget friendly resort.. honest review!

Just returned from 5 days at Cornwall side. Honest Review!! I will start by saying you get what you pay for. This is a small, quiet resort. If you have an open mind and have realistic expectations you will have a great time. Questions welcomed!! We had a great time and it was exactly what we wanted, a chill, relaxed vibe! ROOMS We were on the first floor as I have mobility issues. This was great for us because we could sit on the balcony and enjoy the pool / bar vibe. Others may find the music too loud (some of the people we met said this) but it was good for us. The rooms were basic. TV worked. Shower took a few minutes to warm up, was not hot, but warm enough. The doors leak a lot so don't slip! They provide a floor towel and 2 body towels. Our faucet was intense and would spray on the counter if put at full but this is a little thing. They also provide safe and iron. The ironing board is outside the room in a closet. FOOD We only ate at the buffet on Cornwall side 4 days and the buffet at montego bay 1 day. Mediocre food at best. We would go to breakfast around 930 and most things were not fresh. We could always find something though. They would often have ssme things for lunch / dinner. One day they had fried chicken which was probably the best thing they had. Service at the restaurant was not great so be prepared to wait for drinks. If you are a big tipper then they will give you better service but a few dollars here and there won't get you much. BEACH beach was usually busy. There are limited seats in the shade. There are signs saying not to leave your towels / belongings at the beach to reserve chairs, but people do this anyway. The swim beach is on the Cornwall side so you have people from both sides of the hotel using the chairs. If you ask an employee, they will move the towels, but we didn't have to do this. We would get to the beach around 11am and were able to find seats. The beach itself has a slight hill walking to the water, but it is accessible. There's a blocked off swimming area and it is really lovely swimming. There's a cute swing on the beach for pics. POOL The pool bar on Cornwall is a vibe!! The staff do a great job entertaining and keeping up the energy. Pool is usually quiet and can easily find chairs. The sun puts half the pool in the shade so you could find shade or sun. Small pool but as I said quiet so lots of room. ENTERTAINMENT There is some entertainment on Cornwall like singers, violinist etc but the nightly shows are on the montego bay side. What was listed on the board as entertainment was not the same as the show they did so it was a surprise! That said, all the shows were great. We saw steel band, Bob marely tribute band (great!!) Kareoke Night, reggae night and game show Night. The entertainment staff really try to get people involved. That said, this is a quiet resort and older crowd. Not many people, there were usually many open seats. Most people clear out after the show is done at 1030. The club opens at 11pm but is usually very quiet with only a few people. The dj does his best to get a vibe going!

The rooms were not super great! And not too many buffet choices but a la cartes we’re 5 star and amazing service. Our phone didn’t work and our roof leaked which we moved quickly to another room . I would say 3.5 star there . I wasn’t too fussy as I was just with my teen daughter . The entertainment and friendliness of staff totally made up for it 5 star there .
Experience overall was excellent. Friendly and very clean resort. All workers at the resort work very hard. I would r
