Creating the holiday experience

Great location and even better staff. The holidays are always a challenge but each year I return here and they seem to make things a bit easier.

Great location with friendly staff, bell captains, and doormen. The rooms were of good size with comfortable furnishings. The windows kept the city noise to a minimum.
BEWARE THE DESTINATION FEE!

Excels in location and average for comfort with a quiet room. However, be aware of the DESTINATION FEE! On arrival, wasn't greeted warmly by reception. Was asked for a credit card for security fee of $500 plus, which I confirmed would only be a pending charge on card and would be refunded. I needed to ask were elevators are and what room when the key card was literally thrown at me. The room was fine with us, as literally used as a sleeping base to explore NYC, so no real issues there, after check in. (But as other reviewers have said no amenities in room, which is poor) Checked out after 4 nights, nothing to pay (I was told), great (and that's where my experience would've ended). Arrived home to the UK and 4 days later noticed $190 TAKEN from credit card. Not aware why, so researched and discovered (worked out) this was for a Destination Fee @ $39 per day plus tax. I've been to the US a few times (Florida a couple of years ago) and never experienced this charge and never been charged it around the rest of world either. I booked this trip via British Airway Holidays and never had the need to visit the Hyatt website directly, which does explain the fee at the bottom of the website is for, "in order to provide services and amenities that enhance the guest experience". Well, the fee did neither for me (even the room doesn't provide water), so would love to know what 'enhanced' experience I got. If its meant to, why is it not explicit? Better still, added to the room rate for direct comparison. BEFORE THE HOTEL REPLY, I WAS NOT INFORMED IN ANY WAY OF THIS FEE EITHER AT CHECK IN OR CHECK OUT. MY CREDIT CARD FOR THE SECURITY DEPOSIT HAS BEEN USED TO EXTRACT $190 DAYS AFTER I RETURNED TO THE UK AND STILL WAITING FOR INVOICE. A BIITER TASTE LEFT AFTER VISIT.

Great hotel, very clean and staff was super friendly and helpful. Like to put a special thank you to George and Milo who work the cars out front. They would help you get where you were going even if you didn't need a car. On our last day, both were very helpful getting us to Newark.
Great centrally located hotel

Location is perfect to get around the city, hotel is clean & very convenient for all your needs while in New York. The hotel is situated right next to Grand Central Station!
