Disappointing family holiday to Dreams Dominicus La Romana in the Dominican Republic

Sara P (Chester, United Kingdom) on Dec 27, 2025

I’m not sure you’ll want to publish this review. Worst family holiday ever and we have been travelling together with our boys for the last 20 years. I ended up in hospital for 2 nights in Punta Cana private hospital with a gastrointestinal bacterial infection - read into that what you will. My son 2 days later also ended up with vomiting and diarrhoea and was out of action for a day or so. I don’t think I’ll be travelling to the Dominican Republic again after our experience. Really disappointing as I was so looking forward to our holiday and it cost a lot. I’ll stick to Europe next time in the hope that the standards are much better.

Perfect but two down sides.

Pierre A (Quebec, Canada) on Dec 27, 2025

My second stay and food at the restaurants à la carte were better than last year. The only down sides were at the preferred restaurant at the beach. Super loud dancing music played at 0700 AM for breakfast (TERRIBLE) and NO TOASTER AVAILABLE for the last three days. It is unacceptable! I will still go back next year but please please management do something!

Beautiful Beach, Great Family Amenities — But Excessive Noise

Diana L on Dec 26, 2025

This is one of the most beautiful, picturesque beaches I’ve ever seen. The water is calm and warm, and the white sand truly looks like a postcard. The resort clearly caters to families, with many children on site and excellent kids’ and teen spaces. However, despite being family-friendly, the resort is far too loud. The volume and type of music do not take children (or families) into account. Nightly shows are held in the main resort area rather than in the theater, resulting in extremely loud music playing until 11:00 pm on some nights. This made it very difficult to fall asleep and frankly makes little sense. Even during breakfast, loud club-style music was sometimes playing. I would strongly recommend the resort reconsider both the volume and placement of entertainment. The food was decent overall. The buffet was repetitive, but we didn’t eat there often. We primarily dined at the à la carte restaurants and in the Preferred Club areas, which we enjoyed. The only restaurant we did not like was the Seaside Grill. The rooms are very nice, especially the ones with a separate living room. This layout worked well for our family, giving the kids their own space. For guests seeking quiet, the family suites are a good option, although they are about a 7-minute walk from the beach. Being closer to the beach was important to us, but unfortunately that meant we couldn’t fall asleep until the music stopped each night. The Preferred Club was a highlight. It offers a dedicated beach area with more shade, as well as a beachfront restaurant and bar. We had breakfast and lunch there daily and really appreciated this amenity. We left a few things on the beach and the lost and found had an inefficient system of returning items. At times took more than 48 hrs. The day time activities were wonderful and lots of people played sports and games. My favorite was aerobics in the ocean. I wish this was a daily offering. Suggestions for Hotel Management: 1. Decrease noise levels throughout the resort 2. Improve buffet variety 3. Reduce the number of loud dance-style shows 4. Move entertainment into the theater and start earlier so shows end by 10:00 pm 5. Ensure lost-and-found services are available immediately, not 24–48 hours later With better noise management, this resort could be an exceptional family destination.

A beautiful retreat

Alexisarmit (Hudson Bay, Canada) on Dec 25, 2025

Dreams Dominicus is as close to paradise as I’ve been. A smaller and quieter resort that pays close attention to every detail. The food was excellent and the service superb. We cannot wait to return.

Lovely hotel, but I am not sure I would return.

jessicaeve (London, United Kingdom) on Dec 25, 2025

This hotel is a mixed bag for me. Some super pros but also some cons, and I'm not sure which outweighs the other. We travelled to this resort as a couple in 2019, and we absolutely loved it. So much so that we returned with our kids in Dec 2025. However, the standard was not so high. I'll keep it brief to help you decide if this is the place for you. Pros - beautiful beach - like absolutely stunning - never ever a problem getting a sunlounger - wonderful staff - nothing is a problem for them - a great selection of pools - the a la carte restaurants served wonderful food, and you could always get a table without queuing - incredible beauty therapists at the spa. We had 2 heavenly massages - great entertainment Cons - the pools (all of them, including the hot tub) were not clean. There was debris, insects, cigarette butts and every day by lunchtime, a yellow foam that appeared around the edge as you enter. The bottom of the pool had dirty marks, and I felt like I needed a bath to scrub my skin after being in it - main buffet - I really did not enjoy the food. I know all-inclusive resorts can struggle to hit the balance, but it was sometimes like eating cardboard. Tip - if you want to eat here, go early, and order directly for the grill for fresh food - my hair straightners did not work! Check the voltage on yours before you come because I looked like I had been electrocuted for 2 weeks! - knocks on the doors saying they are from housekeeping in the evening after 8pm. When most people would be out eating or watching the shows, it feels like a very odd time to be calling in. Especially when they don't have housekeeping trollies with them. Maybe I'm paranoid, but it felt strange. So, for me, while I have written a huge list of pros, the pools (which did not feel clean) were a massive problem for me. It feels like it needs an extra filter maybe. Anyway, if you book this hotel I am sure you will have a lovely time, despite those above gripes we really did have a wonderful holiday. I am just not sure I would return for a third time.
