Site Inspection

After looking at many hotels in PDC, this was my last stop and didn’t disappoint. Well, I had to get a lay of the land first. A lot of walking, but that’s the case at all mega-resorts in this corner of the world. Great rooms, staff, and amenities.

Spring Break

Tiffany R (Avon, Ohio) on Apr 20, 2024

So, my reviews are a bit different than most. I try to give helpful tips/facts vs my opinion. With that being said, I would be happy to answer any questions. Bldg 60 - 2nd floor - near the beach. The room is large, plenty of storage, and shower is small. Traveled with another family - 7 total - 3 HS Boys - spring break. Grounds are lush and tropical. 5 resorts on this expansive property. Golf cart transportation to and from proprties. Resort has its own filtration water system - bring your thermos. Lots of wildlife Easy walk to the beach from this building. Small quant pool right outside the building. Breakfast and lunch buffet style or grab and go. 3 Beach huts with drinks, ice cream, burgers, fries, nachos. The Mall has burgers, ice cream, tacos, disco night club (18 years and up), and shopping. In our opinion, the food was ok. Entertainment galore - Foam Party - Fire Show - Mexican Fiesta. Live music nightly at the snake bar with all the top shelf liquors. The chair game was real. However, we always managed and never woke early to grab a spot.

Not quite like it used to be

Brent L on Apr 18, 2024

Been to this resort 4 or 5 times now. Last time we were there was 2019. Main observation from recent stay was that overall there were not as many staff as on previous visits. Overall, I would say the Management they has tightened everything up for the sake of bottom line. Snake bar was not busy most nights. As someone else mentioned only one big screen TV playing videos. Only a couple waitresses working and not doing the rounds. Found it was easier, faster to just go up to bar. Asked for a glass of Chardonnay at the Snake Bar first night and was told they only had Sauvignon Blanc. Found that a bit odd for 5 Star Resort. Booked all our reservations for dinner first day and we ended up with a couple of 8:30 reservations and oddly only enough an 8:00PM booking on the last night. How is that possible? Overall, we will go back but the overall Service/Quality is not what it used to be. All that said, I am thinking they are likely a little more profitable then they used to be.

It's so nice to return here

LLMex (Chicago) on Apr 17, 2024

We returned on March 24 from a seven night stay. This was our 8th visit to this complex, our 5th visit to Maya. My previous review (September '23) said we would return in a heartbeat, and we did. This time, we stayed in building 63. The building had recently been remodeled and our room was kept squeaky clean. The small swimming pool near this building was open after recent renovations - a quiet place to go when things get loud at the main pool. The bed was extremely comfortable, with great linens and pillows. This building is close to everything. We ate dinner at La Marina and Trattoria Olivetti and Under the Sea. If you are having trouble getting a particular reservation, check with your concierge. That's what they are there for! We also ate at the buffet several times. We're not Irish, but it was cute that the resort celebrated St. Patrick's Day. The buffet had an Irish corner that featured shepherds' pie and bangers and mash. There was an entire dessert display of green desserts! We had great service at all the bars all the time. The music in Kukulkan was much louder than it needed to be - sometimes we had to shout our orders to the bartender. That's sad because we really liked having a place to hang out after dinner instead of turning in at 8:00 p.m. If you hear squawking at all hours of the day and night, it's just the peacocks. They live there, we're just visiting. The resort has a book exchange - it's on the Lindo side of the pool. Drop off books you've already read and pick up something new (to you). We love Iberostar and would return again in a heartbeat!

Good hotel, not great

dandoun5 (ottawa, Ontario, Canada) on Apr 15, 2024

Definitely not a 5* hotel. Service in all restaurants is SLOW. The servers take forever to get you water and your drink. Dirty plates are rarely/never picked up, especially since the restaurant(s) aren't even at full capacity, very strange. Poolside buffet is not the best. Same food every day/repetitive and minimal selection for both breakfast & lunch. Ridiculous how in the evening you have to make a reservation for that buffet,. Do yourself a favor and dine at the buffet at Lindo, excellent selection and several options. Lack of maps/signage at the hotels is extremely frustrating. We found out on our last day that the Maya and Lindo hotels were connected by the pool area. We were taking the trolleys to the Maya lobby then another to the Lindo hotel. Waste of time. Tapenyaki restaurant, not impressed, they use the same spices and SO MUCH butter for each (meat, chicken, shrimp, rice). French restaurant was nice, Pedro was great. Greek restaurant was also a nice experience. Drinks barely have any alcohol in them, or they're watered down. Absolutely nothing to do in the evening. The show at the Lindo is for kids (8 pm-shouldn't they be sleeping?) Unless you want to spend your time in a bar, there's no other entertainment which made for boring evenings. If you have a late flight, you're still expected to leave the room at the regular check out time. We asked if we could check out at a later time, they said yes, it's $15/hour. We were willing to pay, but when time came to extend the check out time, they (apparently) didn't have any rooms available. We were told we could use the 'courtesy' area and i use that word loosely. It's across from the lobby, they have a bathroom with a shower; shower curtain doesn't close all the way and it's completely wet in there. Absolutely ridiculous for a '5*' hotel. Front desk employees couldn't care less either on how unaccommodating this was. Reserving for specialty restaurants, I'm sorry, I forget her name, but it started with an 'A', she was awesome and very helpful. Loungers by the pool...if you don't get up and put your towel on them by 8 am, good luck finding a chair throughout the day. Definitely not enough for both hotels. They don't always play music by the pool. They have 1 game/day and it's extremely annoying because the microphone isn't clear and all you hear is mumbling for about 1 hour. If you're going to have a burger (from the beach area or buffet), please make sure it's cooked through completely. Raw ground beef is not safe to eat. A/C is extremely loud. Definitely will not be going back.
