Family Of 3 Vacation

Shaun L (Toronto, Canada) on Apr 27, 2024

We went with a 12 year old for a family of 3 vacation. Originally booked at the Caribe superior room, we were moved to Tropical superior upon arrival, no big deal. Soon learned that we preffered the Caribe pool, they're music had better sound and the entertainment team was more fun. Also liked the Caribe buffet better for dinner when we went. We ate at the Colonial buffet for breakfast every morning as the ladies in there were absolutely on point with their service. Special shout out to Her Linda, she was great, fast efficient and didn't let your coffee or water go empty all while very visibly pregnant!!! The food was 4/5 Sante Fe steak house and Kyoto teppanyaki were favorites for us. The beaches were great, swam with the fish and turtles at the Palace, swam with the dolphins at Dolphinarius. Sargassum was washing up one or 2 days but staff were all over cleaning it up. Housekeeping was on point, my safe stopped working one day, security was there in 30 minutes. Superior room was clean and comfortable and all the staff were so polite. The shows were pretty good the Magic, Michael Jackson, Fantasia and Las Vegas shows were amongst our favorites. I have no complaints, it's a huge resort but the grounds are beautiful. The only thing I would wish for is somewhere to sit and relax with kids for entertainment after the shows ( live music perhaps ). We would definitely go back, the price is absolutely right.

The resort is beautiful and perfectly maintained, definitely will be back. Large resort with many pools and plenty of chairs to relax in. It has it's own mall with lots of attractions. Plenty of bars and a great sports bar with plenty of food. Staff is very friendly and very helpful,

Girl's Trip

CoolCanuckChick (New Brunswick, Canada) on Apr 27, 2024

I went for a 7 day visit with 2 other ladies. We stayed at the Barcelo Beach resort which is 1 of 6 that are all together. When staying at the Beach resort you have access to 'stay and play at 4' including Beach, Caribe, Tropical and Colonial. There are 2 others including Adults only and The Palace which are not included. The resort is well kept and clean with beautiful beaches and pool areas. You have access to everything you need within the group of resorts including a mall and market, night club, several theatres, excursions, bus service between the resorts etc. Our room was a Standard room, #3145 on the ground floor of the Uxmal building with a view of the fountains by the theatre. It was very convenient location wise as it was equally close to the buffet and the pools and beach. It offered ample space for 3 women including a King size bed and a couch that is a flip/flop/futon style changing into a bed. The beds and couch were comfy. The shower had awesome pressure and the Air Conditioning was cold. We also had an ice machine directly outside our room door which was great to fill your cup with ice and then bottled water. We were also a short 5 minute walk to the mall and several of the al la cartes once we learned the best walkway to use which was going straight up past the theatre behind us. Some tips for your stay at this resort: - WIFI can be spotty on the beach. The closer you get to the pool bar seems to be better. - If you have more than one room key and you one stops working, you will need to get all reprogramed. Once you have one fixed it disables the others. - It can get really HOT in the afternoon, try to find a spot on the beach with the option to move your chair around and grab some shade. There is a huge tree (not a palm tree) in the back of the beach closer to the building with the washrooms, gift shop and towel exchange that offers shade all day. - there is a particular area on the beach that offers the best water entry as there is not as many rocks. It can be found by entering the water by the shortest palm tree along the water. - The Mexican cinnamon coffee was awesome but it was often quite cold in the ceramic pots with the burners under then. Our server Selene would always warm it up nice and hot for us and even remember whose cup belonged to each of us. Her customer service is top notch! - The prices of things appear to be much lower in the Mall versus the markets and vender table at the resort. - If you are unable to get a reservation at one of the Al La Cartes, try showing up one night and asking if they have any cancellations. We did this and were seated within an hour. - The Al La Cartes in the Mall seem to require long pants for men but the 2 in the Caribe allow shorts. flip flops were accepted at all of them for women. - The pool at the Captain Morgan Grill seems to be the party pool with the other pools being quieter. - There is an adult pool called "El Cielito" with its own bar between the Coba and Tulum buildings. If you turn left after leaving the main entrance to the buffet and take your first right you will find it. - Bring ear plugs, the room buildings have open areas from the ground floor to the the roof so sound carries rather loud. Although we were directly beside the theatre, the noise was minimal carrying over. - If you want to know the themes for the buffet go to client services where you book your Al La Cartes and they can provide you with a print out. - there is a luggage scale in the lobby near the main exit but it requires 10 peso coins. We did not have any coins and none of the staff were able to help with this. The gift shop was not open at the time as it was very early; however, they likely couldn't assist either as they only take credit and room charge. - there is no coffee in the lobby for early morning departures. The staff suggestion was to walk to Strikers bowling alley as they are open 24 hours or of course use the room coffee makers before leaving.
