Overall a lovely trip, but there were some notable low points

adreyer621 (Saint Louis, Missouri) on Feb 08, 2025

My partner and I spent 5 nights at TRS Yucatan and enjoyed our trip overall. However, I don’t think we would return. I wish I could give 3.5 stars, but rounded up to 4. Service - Very good overall. The staff is friendly and always has a smile on their faces. We didn’t utilize the butler service other than making our dinner reservations and one complaint about the room, which I’ll mention below. Bartenders were all great. Servers were mostly great, some seemed a spread a little thin and anxious to get us out of restaurants. Lobby team was great. Shoutout to Kelly that helped us checkout. She made the process seamless. Cleanliness - All common areas were spotless. Our room was mostly good, I’ll get into it below. Value - A main reason we chose TRS was that our research showed it was a great resort for the price. We didn’t really feel this way. Everything was basically what we expected for the price (food, rooms, drinks). It also seems that they’ve recently started charging for many things that used to be automatically included through the “premium experience” upgrade option. We also met many return guests that stated that their opinion on the value of the resort had dwindled in the last year or so. Location - This is where TRS really stood out and a big part of why we chose it. The property is gorgeous. Yes, it is far from the airport. It’s worth it. The grounds are so well taken care of and the foliage and wildlife are amazing. Sleep quality - This was average due to our AC barely ever kicking on and the room constantly being slightly damp. We even brought damp rid and it didn’t seem to help enough. We ended up sleeping in later than usual every morning because we tossed and turned all night. Rooms - Aesthetically, the rooms are beautiful. They are also spacious. That’s where the positives ended for us. As mentioned above, it was damp and the AC was not satisfactory for what we are used to. This really put a damper on the whole trip for us. Also, we noticed our mini fridge leaking the first day and told the butler right away. They claimed it was fixed. It didn’t leak for a day and then started again. It’s hard to see the water with the pattern on the floors. My partner actually slipped and stubbed his toe pretty badly due to the water on the floor. Food - Overall good. We had a couple of standout meals that I would call great. Nothing was ever bad. The food at Chic was wonderful. Also, don’t miss out on Capricho’s A La Carte lunch option.

Beautiful Setting, but Declining Service and Smoking Problems

Connemara P (Washington DC, District of Columbia) on Feb 08, 2025

We’ve been coming back to this resort for a while now, and while there are still some good things, it seems like the quality and service have gone down over time. The positives still outweigh the negatives, but there are a few important issues that need attention. Main Problems: The biggest problems for us were the cleanliness of the rooms and the smoking situation. The smoking issue is a major problem and needs immediate attention. Smoking is happening everywhere—inside rooms, on balconies, near plunge pools, in front of the villas, at golf cart stops, on the golf carts, in the lobbies, by the pools, on the beach, and even in the bars and outdoor restaurants. The overwhelming and constant smell of tobacco, marijuana, vapes, and cigars is unacceptable. It feels as if we’ve stepped back in time to the 70s or 80s, when people didn’t yet realize the severe health risks of smoking. This is not acceptable at a resort that claims to be a luxury, stylish destination. What’s even more frustrating is that the hotel management completely ignores Mexico’s strict smoking laws. The fact that the hotel does nothing to stop this is a huge oversight, and it creates an environment where guests who are sensitive to second-hand smoke are unable to enjoy their stay. For those with allergies or anyone wanting a healthy, smoke-free environment, the smoke is ruining the experience. The rooms are starting to look old, and they are not being cleaned as well or as often as they should be. We stayed for three weeks and had trouble getting our bed sheets changed, even though we put the sign on the bed. Basically, the maid makes the bed, arranges a couple of pillows, changes the towels, and ties your phone charger cable in a cute knot. But they don’t dust, sweep the floors, or clean the sinks or showers. We spoke to the butler, front desk, and a supervisor, but nothing changed. It seems like the housekeeping staff doesn’t have enough time to clean properly, possibly because of budget cuts. They are also cutting back on toiletries. Don't ever look under the bed—there is a lot of dust and dirt that sits there for a long time. The room also felt humid with some visible signs of mold. The worst part was the bedding and pillows, which smelled musty—almost like rotten cheese. We had to bring our own pillows and sheets to avoid that awful smell. The Positives: On the bright side, the service here is still top-notch, especially for returning guests. The staff always makes us feel like family, which really means a lot. A huge shoutout to Daniel Tuz at Helios—he was absolutely amazing. He went out of his way to make us feel special, and his attention to detail, warmth, and genuine care for us made such a difference in our stay. We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience with Daniel. His entire team was just as wonderful, and we genuinely looked forward to every meal at Helios because of them. It was like coming back to friends each time. The service at other restaurants was good too, but the menu is very repetitive and hasn’t changed since 2017. Unfortunately, the food quality didn’t meet our expectations. La Boheme was especially disappointing—oversalted onion soup, gross sea bass, and a horrible mushy creme brûlée dessert. After that bad meal, we stopped going to the à la carte restaurants and chose the buffets for dinner instead. What keeps bringing us back is the amazing jungle setting. The paths, mangroves, lagoons, wildlife, colorful birds, and beautiful plants, along with the beach, really make this place special.

Tequila tasting

Bryan M on Feb 08, 2025

The tequila tasting with Fernando and crew was amazing! We had a good history lesson and got to try many tequilas. I would recommend this to anybody visiting the TRS adults only resort. The Mezcal was really good as well! Thanks for the fun. Till next time!

Tequila tasting

Darryl M (Victoria, Canada) on Feb 08, 2025

Fernando, Andres and Eflen were fantastic during the tequila tasting. Great explanations and entertaining stories with good guest participation. The crowd enjoyed it, he described the history of tequila and how it is made. He included Mezcal too.
