Run down, stinky, gorgeous beach

GreenwoodandGerrard (Toronto, Canada) on Dec 18, 2025

This is our third stay at Henry Morgan and our last. It had not weathered well in the 6 years since our last visit. Airport pickup, however, was superb. We arrived to the new, huge open-air reception. Seems odd to have built this massive building just for reception while many of the rooms, lobby and pool deck are decaying and sorely in need or replacement. We were assigned our two rooms in different areas. One was old and tiny with small closets, a king bed plus a cot, tiny tv and decrepit bathroom. It is rainy season and there is alot of standing water on the grounds that stinks of sewage. The area near this building stank particularly intensely and the room smelled terribly foul. The second room was large and spacious but the room itself stinks of urine. We wonder if someone tried to urinate off the balcony in their sleep bit instead relieved themselves on the heavy curtain over the sliding door to the balcony. The smell is oppressive. I appreciate how lucky we are to be able to be here. The beach is stunning. The bar staff are wonderful, servers are pleasant, George is sweet. However there are things that could be improved. Our toilet was on permaflush upon arrival and George sent someone to fix it. The “fix” lasted until the next flush. I “fix” it after each use. The washroom in this room was renovated but the toilet was not replaced. The big open shower has nowhere to put shampoo or soap, the towel bar has broken twice. The weight of a hand towel is too much for it. The sink is tiny and shallow and water splashes off and into the huge storage cupboard under it thus everything we stored in there is soaked. Our room is cleaned (they mop and make the beds) but they took most of our towels and our bath mat so there is water everywhere. We were left with one towel and could not find a cart or cleaner for additional towels or water. There is a huge animacion team. It’s unclear what they do other than animate/flirt with each other. Yesterday two were dressed as characters from aladdin and offered sangria in paper cone cups but advised that it tasted terrible. After dinner all the Spa ish speaking guests fill the seats in the lobby to watch them shout into microphones. They bring children to the “stage” area and put an image on the tv with loud music. The image says “animacion”. Unclear as to how this is entertaining. Young guys on jets skis drive right into the small roped swim area. When I told George how unsafe this is he said, “I know. I have received many complaints but I hear they are leaving for Coxen Hole.” So I guess it is out of his control. Police come daily and seem to dine here. There are hordes of vendors swarming the beach entry/exit. This did not happen on our last two visits. We are looking for different accommodations for next time. With young adult children we would prefer kitchenette. If they slerp through breakfast here (ends at 10am) there is no food until noon.

Fun, friendly crew awaits you at the Henry Morgan Hotel!

I booked a trip to Roatan, I did not know anyone and had never been to the island. I am a single woman traveling on my own. A friend recommended the Henry Morgan Resort. I'm glad that's where my island experience began. Transportation from the airport to the hotel was seamless. The location of the hotel is ideal. You are in the center of the tourist hub. If you are on a week to two week vacation that's probably what you are looking for. If you are a diver, there are dive shops all around. The people were friendly and the staff was accommodating. There guests services manager Giorgio went out of his way to make sure that I had everything I needed. He was very responsive to all of the requests that I made. The first room I was in was noisy in the evening as it was in close proximity to the nightly entertainment. I let Giorgio know and he moved me the day I mentioned it. The next space I was in was wonderful and I was very appreciative of the accommodation. The hotel is dated, they are in the process of renovating the rooms and upgrading the grounds. I had an issue with the air conditioning, they sent maintenance to fix it right away. They helped me with excursions and gave me helpful hints about Roatan. It's an all inclusive for breakfast lunch and dinner. There was plenty of of meat and seafood options and desserts galore. I am a vegetarian. I eat eggs and cheese. They did offer to make me special meals if I did not find suitable options at the buffet. Breakfast was tasty with a variety of options, from yogurt, cereal, bread, pancakes, waffles, pastries, eggs any style, beans, rice, potatoes and meat. I really enjoyed the fresh fruit that was served at every meal. Papaya, bananas, pineapple and more. The dining room staff was cheery and on top of their game. The location is great and they have some of the best beach access in the West Bay. It's convenient to the reef for superior snorkeling. Water taxi's are easily accessible. I launched my paddle board right from the beach. You did have to be careful about the jet skies flying around. You can sit and listen to a guitarist in the evening, or participate in the scheduled activities. The entertainment staff is personable. It is a kid friendly resort and they have games for them as well. It's ideal for beach walking, swimming, snorkeling and diving. There are a variety of bars and restaurants all around. It is not a fancy place. it is comfortable and housekeeping is on it. The polite, jovial upbeat, staff is what makes the experience. The beach at Henry Morgan is fabulous and so is the staff!
